The Orioles' Cal Ripken, Jr. picked up his 3000th career hit in this game, as Baltimore defeated the Twins 6-4. Minnesota's highlights mostly come in the fourth inning, where a young Corey Koskie hit a two-run triple and Ron Coomer followed with a double to drive Koskie in. Fun fact: Ripken became the third player in seven years to get his 3000th hit at the Metrodome (joining the Twins' Dave Wi...

Todd Walker finally broke the stalemate in the 12th with a solo home run, and then Rick Aguilera closed the show for a 1-0 Twins win. Boxscore: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET199904120.shtml

One day after his two-run homerun lifted the Twins to a 3-0 win over Detroit (ruclips.net/video/AFraRyO18Xg/видео.html), Michael Cuddyer did it again, this time hitting a three-run homerun in the bottom of the 8th to key a 6-2 Twins win. Carl Pavano hurled seven innings of two-run ball, outdueling Justin Verlander who had given up just two runs, too, before being rocked in the 8th. Boxscore: ww...

Here's a real random game: a 3-0 Twins win from September 2009. Michael Cuddyer's two-run homer in the sixth provided all the runs they needed, as Brian Duensing hurled 6-1/3 shutout innings before turning it over to the bullpen who shut the Tigers down the rest of the way. Nick Blackburn took a shutout into the 9th inning before Brandon Inge's two-run homer got the Tigers on the board. But a six-run 4th for the Twins, featuring a two-run homerun by Justin Morneau and a based-loaded throwing error on a chopper by Denard Span clearing the bases, was more than enough run support for Blackburn to complete the game. Francisco Liriano had thrown a shutout into the sixth inning before longtime Twins killer Magglio Ordonez slugged a three-run homer to left center and gave the Tigers the lead. But the Twins rallied to tie it in the 7th, Nick Punto knocked in the go-ahead run in the 8th, and Joe Nathan slammed the door in the 9th for the save. The Pohlads did a good job of running the team from 1984 to 1992. Starting in 1993, the team took a very different turn. Eventually, Pohlad tried to contract the team out of MLB even though it had great fan support. Since the mid-2000s, the Twins have become the defining organization for 'making the playoffs' as the measuring stick for success. The Pohlads have NO interest in fielding a team that can advance to a World Series.

The way Glavine bounced back from that first inning was impressive and spoke a lot about his mental makeup. I watched this series as a 12 year old and was so excited when the Twins won. I only wish Minnesota sports fans had something to celebrate more recently than 33 years ago.

I was at this game in the right field bleachers, but remember vividly left field getting pelted with food and Tom Kelly coming onto the PA. I think it was cheap admission night for college students or something. I was all over Paul O Neill for the first half of this game as I was sitting atop the right field bleachers in the first row. He proceeded to go 2-4 and recorded his 2000th hit, and at one point looked up at us in the stands with the look of someone who may go postal on you. By the end of the game all I could do was cheer him on as he proved me wrong. Twins still won though I believe.

I remember watching this live on T.V. and was blown away by how loud the crowd was for each strike thrown by Berenguer in the 9th. The World Series later that month at that place might've been just as loud, but I didn't see the same pitch-by-pitch frenzied reaction as in this ALCS 9th-inning, Berenguer craziness!

I don't blame Dennis Martinez, as I believe the pitch honestly just got away, but I still hate to hear the name "Dennis Martinez". Kirby Puckett was still in his prime when he developed glaucoma, and likely would have had 4 to 6 more highly productive seasons ahead of him, likely reaching 3000+ hits, 300+ home runs, and both 1400+ RBI and RS. Probably the saddest day in MN Twins history, perhaps even more than the day that Sandy Koufax beat the Twins 2-0 in Game 7 of the 1965 WS.
