Paul and Morgan can handle discussions with atheists easier than a discussion with a "progressive" Christian. A theologically coherent argument based on scripture and church history that shows the logical flaws in P&M's politically/socially conservative theological wuzzling causes Paul especially to show uncomfortable cognitive dissonance.

💯 and to go on a tangent- I finally watched the Barbie movie last night and I am sincerely MIND BLOWN at how the message of the movie, especially all of America Ferrera’s lines- went over Morgan’s and other fundie’s heads. The Barbies LITERALLY USED THE WORDS: cognitive dissonance! My husband and I continue going to a Christian church that is fundie-lite and even for them, I see why this movie ruffled their feathers 😂 to listen to those monologues though, I sincerely wonder if it resonated with Morgan deep down but she just chooses to continue living the terrible facade that she and Paul constantly post about 🫤

@@okoala62you should go watch Dav & Bethany Beal’s reaction to the Barbie Movie. Bethy responded as expected, but Dav’s take was refreshing, it was deep & philosophical review & got a lot out of the movie… he explained that he enjoys movies that really make you think…

The only "demon" I deal with when doing yoga is the one that tells me side planks are a good idea! But, I think a big reason why someone like Isaiah is so threatened by yoga is that it promotes personal empowerment, i.e. you as the practitioner are in full control of your practice.

Something interesting about deliverance in the context of healing is that it’s not promised. I have many rare chronic illnesses and have had 20 surgeries, with more in my future. I’ve come to the realization that God is not punishing me, or necessarily trying to “keep me humble”.. there are times I think he’s allowed things to happen to foster humility in my spirit or make me understand people from a different perspective. But I’m at a place in life where I’ve talked to God about healing and he’s told me that there are things he has and will healed, but that there are things in this life I wont see healed until I’m in heaven. Feeling peaceful about not being “delivered” through pain is not a bad thing and God does not have that in everyone’s plans. I’ve always been very uncomfortable with people who try to lay hands on me or touch me and ask if their prayers for them worked- that’s not how it works. The Lord has delivered me from the performative “healing” that the church wanted me to experience any time someone said I was a warrior or would be healed. It doesn’t mean God isn’t a good God- not feeling the pressure to be healed all the time and knowing the Lord says it’s okay to be neutral has arguably been one of the most healing things that has happened to me! Sorry for the rant but this part just stood out to me! Thanks for a great video as always B!

My win: I found a secondhand Bible in the free section of a thrift store called "The Metal Bible" featuring the New Testament and several musicians and other people identifying as metalheads talking about their faith and mental health, illness, addiction etc and how the faith made them stronger. I feel like this Bible was speaking to me since I'm a metalhead/goth myself who is dealing with such stuff. So I asked the staff "is this Bible really free? I can pay" but they answered, "no, I can see you want it so you should have it and besides, it's in the free section. Go ahead and take it home". I have read it for several days and starting to feel comfortable in my faith again.

Counterpoint to the "sudden and external" anger Paul was talking about - people with ADHD have difficulty regulating their emotions and can flare up with anger at the smallest inconvenience. It's usually quickly followed by confusion and guilt, as it does feel like it comes from nowhere and it's not you. It's something I myself struggled with a lot and got upset about until I got diagnosed and learned more about it.

@@raven_moonshine39 I mean what if they do a yoga pose while stretching that they didn’t know was a yoga pose?? Does the demon cackle at their ignorance and immediately possess since intentions don’t matter? Shouldn’t they then study yoga to the Master Instructor level so they know everything NOT to do? I mean if the consequence is full on demonic possession I would think one would do/learn absolutely everything possible to prevent that, especially if it’s something so clear as a specific body contortion. I stood in a flamingo pose for like half my pharmacy career because standing in one place for several hours is painful, so can I go ahead and do some other yoga poses anyway because I’m obviously already possessed? Does doing half a yoga pose count or does it have to be the whole thing; and if the latter, does that mean I can do a full pose but then like throw a pinky out of place or something so that it’s no longer “correct”??

As a person that was involved in a cult-like deliverance ministry/home church, Isaiah's teachings are spreading like wild fire and are concerning. The group that I got out of, were following the teachings of Torben Sondergaard (huge following like Iasiah) and the folks in my county now have offshoot "ministries" because none of them agree on anything. Lots of spiritual ab**e like holding people down in their baptism to get the demons to come out. That happened to me while 7 months pregnant. I am safe along with my husband and both of my children. There are so many stories while being involved with these people and we are finally starting to open up about it after 3 years. I know that the two offshoot ministries in my area have their own podcasts/youtube channels which is crazy.
This isnt just disagreeing on secondary beliefs it is truly dangerous what people take from these teachings and they run with it.

I mean, it's obviously been pretty sexist historically but the connotations of black women being seductive Jezebels is also a pretty old, racist caricature. @5:00 100000% - I sincerely believe THAT right there is Paul & Morgan’s whole reasoning and their “why” in regard to their RUclips and social media platforms: for exposure, views and to make a living on that. That’s definitely been my impression of them- as a Christian myself, they just do not come off to me as genuine Christians who are using their platform to spread the Word of God- they are using their platform and THEIR version of God’s Word to get fame and fortune out of it. Ooooh - I feel a monologue!
their reaction to Shiny Happy People. While Morgan started that video with a nice-sounding “disclaimer” at the start, notice how their frustration, anger, and indignation was largely against the producers of that documentary and how their actions affected THEM (Paul and Morgan) - BUT THEY DID NOT PORTRAY AS MUCH ANGER OR INDIGNATION AT THE EVIL MONSTERS AND ENVIRONMENT THAT CAUSED THE PAIN THE DOCUMENTARY SOUGHT TO EXPOSE! I could tell Paul and Morgan really expected to “blow up” in popularity and followers after participating in that project😒
Paul and Morgan just really are not likable to me - their racist, homophonic and harshly judgmental commentaries just really push me away more.
But what do I know?! Just an average Christian here! 🙃 lol

Isaiah: yoga is Bad because it is based on worshipping Hindu gods
Also Isaiah: yoga is Bad because it is New Age
Is it just me, or does he seems like he is conflating New Age and an ancient eastern religion very haphazardly? Like, I know lots of people who practice New Age spirituality do tend to take aspects from Eastern religions without actually understanding their significance and appropriating them into their spiritual practices, but here it genuinely seems like Isaiah just doesn't differentiate between these belief systems at all.

My mother is a progressive christian that says bible verses and stories don't matter to her anywhere near as much as the modern-day applications of the teachings of Jesus (as were plenty of other people in the progressive christian church that I was raised in).
When I was in late elementary school, we moved from the small neighborhood church that was undergoing a leadership crisis to a larger church within the same denomination and my mother was caught off guard that our Sunday school time was spent learning bible stories and memorizing bible passages because she didn't feel that was a meaningful way of teaching christian values.
Learning the bible, as a text, was of such low priority in the church I grew up that I didn't even realize that certain things - the concept of the apocalypse being a big one - were actually in the bible until I was an adult atheist seeking to understand why the christianity I was raised in seemed so divergent from the religious beliefs of that many conservative christians were asserting as givens of christianity.

    • @firedjinndragon
      @firedjinndragon 5 месяцев назад +7

Ooo, I had a somewhat similar experience. I was raised in the United church, which is super progressive (affirming, big on inter faith cooperation/learning, etc), but went to a church with a very old congregation - ergo, some of the stuff associated with the United church at large, eg pride flags, weren't really a feature. We got lots of Bible stories and verses, but they always came with modern-day applications. Our Reverend was fantastic, lots of his sermons were very philosophical and reflecting on how to respond to current events with the compassion for the oppressed & the underdog that he believed Jesus exemplified. One thing in particular I think would freak out Christians of Paul and Morgan's ilk is when we masking taped a giant labyrinth in the basement and our Reverend held evenings to walk and meditate/pray while going through the labyrinth. I think they would find that too pagan.
When I was in my late teens, I went to a Catholic high school and after that ended up going on a trip to the Holy Land with the Alliance Church. I was shocked at the beliefs both these very different interpretations of Christianity presented as normal and mainstream. While in high school I could shrug it off with the belief that Catholics were conservative and Protestants progressive, but the Alliance church completely shattered that belief and I had to do some big wrestling with my basic beliefs about religion (it's worth noting I was atheist before going on the trip, but went on a combination of a recommendation from a friend and the belief that most Christians were the progressive ones I grew up with). Not only was there more emphasis on Bible stories that had never really been focal in my church (we had lots of parables, lots of Pentateuch, and lots of Isaiah iirc), but I was shocked at the literal interpretation of books such as Revelation, which had never been presented to me as literal. It was very distressing for me. Also as a side note, I am queer, and 18 year old was very depressed. It was an extremely painful trip in many ways, as I would have to bite my tongue and listen to lots of homophobia and other beliefs that truly disturbed and hurt me to my core, and all of these coming from people who on a superficial level were very nice and kind.
This was also my first and only experience with charismatic Christianity, and I don't mind saying it freaked the crap out of me. I had gone on this optional dinner held with a family the trip leader knew in West Bank, and the dinner and company part was lovely. Afterwards, entirely unforewarned and unexpectedly, they had a speaking in tongues sort of ritual. All of these people I had been travelling with and talking to were shaking and crying and spouting gibberish. At that time I didn't even know what charismatic Christianity was. It scared me quite a bit.
Needless to say, this trip obliterated my very rosy view of Christianity. I am extremely grateful for my childhood experiences, and how kind and safe they were. These childhood experiences are a big portion of helping me from not becoming one of those atheist's who are very condescending towards all people of any religion, and use unfair generalizations to justify that. It's a religion with over a billion believers, so obviously the range of what people believe within it is going to be vast. On the one hand, who have people like my parents, my old Reverend, B Haney, who are rational and compassionate and whose interpretation of religion helps bolster these qualities. On the other hand, you have people whose beliefs cause active harm to their constituents and society at large, and a whole spectrum in between.
Sorry that got a bit rambly, I probably just should have made a new comment instead of this being in your replies oops :/

I've been in deconstruction for a while, so I'm a little rusty on Bible knowledge, but the idea that a Christian can be possessed *is* rebuked in the Bible in the Parable of the Empty House.
In the parable, Jesus talks about the Spirit of the Lord leaving a house, at which point a demon can return. But the demon can't go in while the Spirit is there.

^this! It blows me away how often I hear many modern evangelical (by their dogmas) outright contradict the words of Jesus Himself.
Also, I don’t want to slip into “no true Scotsman” fallacies, but there is something to be said for those who think they are Christians but actually are not. However, the lynchpin is whether or not Christ lives in them. That being said, I also acknowledge that declaring so is very controversial, even “offensive”, because it can be perceived as a statement of elitism. But at the very least I believe it is Biblically sound to say, one who has been claimed by Christ cannot be inhabited by unclean spirits.

Sooooo... is it just me, or is it kind of gross when they include their young son in their pleas for Patrons? Seems a bit manipulative.
Speaking of which - how are they financing this? I assume they pay for their own flights, but do they stay with the person they're spending 24 hours with? Who pays for the meals? I would think P+M would, since it's their project, but if they're only targeting larger creators... so many questions. Maybe they mentioned this somewhere and I just missed it.

This whole video feels like it’s the opposite of their goal of “unifying Christians”. It feels like it’s mostly Isaiah talking trash about other Christians while Paul weakly tries to push back and immediately gets shut down, because Isaiah is not open to even listening to something he doesn’t agree with. It is a little nice to see Paul get a taste of his own medicine though, since usually he’s the one shutting other people down and refusing to listen…

People like Isaiah are extremely dangerous. They are preying on people with mental or emotional issues. Severe depression should be treated with proper medical care, including medication and therapy. If you believe in prayer, prayer can help, but it's so much more complicated than that.

Depression can be very complicated. I think we can all agree it's important NOT to do this alone! ❤

It’s weird … right off the get-go, with Isaiah teaching his children … the serpent didn’t tell Adam and Eve TO eat the fruit “even though God said not to”. The serpent questioned them what God said and then told them God left out some details about the fruit. But Eve and Adam both *of their own conclusions* chose to eat the fruit.
So basically it seems to me that Isaiah doesn’t trust God’s Word as-is to be enough. He has to “modify” parts of the narrative to fit what he wants his listeners (in this case, his children) to believe. (Granted, this could be subconscious on his part.) 🤔
::FINAL (I think 😂) ADD-ON:: I get the impression (1:43:00 ish) that Isaiah doesn’t believe humans can be truly wicked without being possessed. Weirdly though this is a major problem because that would mean humans aren’t fully responsible for their own actions. I find this very troubling. “It was the devil in me that made me do it!”
… I can’t believe how often I was agreeing with Paul’s challenges in these interactions. 🫣. (FWIW, been responding in real time while watching.)

The main thing that I feel about Pastor Isaiah is that it's ALL ABOUT HIM. His entire conversion story is about how he was really convinced that this whole Christianity thing was going to give him this MASSIVE PURPOSE. And not just any purpose - but a purpose of being prophetic and a literal demon slayer. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm sure all of this is very meaningful to him, and that it was all very REAL for him - and - when you're coming from a life where you didn't feel purpose, where you didn't feel significance, where you didn't feel like your life had direction - to all of a sudden having this MASSIVE vision of becoming this celebrity preacher - of course you're going to want to lean into that.
It all just feels very SELF focused, rather than him really seeming like he wants to serve others. But maybe that's just me and my vision of it.
Paul and Morgan have their issues for sure, and are quite problematic - and I can also really see that Isaiah is so deeply unwavering on his beliefs - this is his LIFE SOURCE that all of this stuff is REAL and means what he thinks it means...

My biggest take away so far is the constant talking over each other is really cringy and uncomfortable for me, due to the family dynamics I grew up in. No one is *listening*
They both want to control the convo and hear the sound of their own voice, and they both have to be right. Paul being "playful" is a defense mechanism for sure. Also interesting how the men are doing all of the talking & morgan isn't really contributing...smh sad since she's better at talking to ppl than both of them put together.

BTW, my daughter has worked at Starbucks the last years & that company is so anti-political, they have meetings often that train employees that they are prohibited from expressing religious or political beliefs at work (or off work in uniform), even if asked. The mother Starbucks company has sued the offshoots (like Target Starbucks, who bought rights to the affiliation but have different ownership) for saying certain religious/political opinions. Starbucks looks out for #1, which is their brand, & they would never chance hurting their brand name; people pay like $9 for a cup of their coffee b/c of their brand name. They literally beat it into their employee’s heads with constant training sessions & have super strict rules (for example… my daughter has pens that have generic religious sayings on them such as “Love is the greatest of these”… which she knows are absolutely prohibited in her place of work). Political or religious clothing, jewelry, accessories, etc, are absolutely forbidden & there is zero wiggle room.
I don’t really get why the hate for Starbucks from Christians is (I dislike them cuz they’re too expensive for me!), but Christians often hear propaganda & believe everything they hear & get carried away.

I wish Isaiah would give specific passages to back up what he says more. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not well versed in the bible. I was a cradle catholic and went through confirmation, I also have a literature degree and have read a few of the apocryphal texts (simply because you have to know those references to understand so much of English speaking literature), but that's as far as my in depth knowledge goes. I don't have the bible memorized and there's huge sections that I have no idea what they're about. But still there are certain things that he pulls out like "Literally the bible says everyone in this world is under Satan's control" that make me stop and go, where does it say that? What verse? If he can give me a verse then, cool, I'll believe him, but until then, that's just a line that I never heard growing up and just feels like the kind of fire and brimstone thing that some pastors toss out to scare people into going to church. Or maybe I just grew up in a very different church environment and our priests skimmed over that bit. I don't know and I won't know until he gives me specific passages.

Is Paul’s voice like abnormally deep? It’s like he’s dropped an octave for Isaiah.
Also: I thought this 24hr concept was to introduce more of the WHY these people are the extreme ways they are… I didn’t really get a why from Isaiah besides that he was an atheist and heard the voice of god. I know Paul and Morgan most likely aren't watching this, but one point of feedback I'd give them on this series is in line with your windshield camera in the car suggestion--at 1:27:13 I'd like to see them set the camera up on a tripod at the end of the table to film all three of them instead of passing the camera back and forth when they each have questions. It was the same in the dining room of Isaiah's house, now that I think about it. Instead of Paul taking the camera from Morgan when she starts talking, if they had had the camera on a tripod filming the table then we can see all of them and allow for the conversation to flow naturally without it being one of them talking to Isaiah at a time. I'm honestly kind surprised they didn't do that, now that I think about it, because they must use a tripod at home when they film, so why didn't they bring it with them? I don't know, that's just something I noticed that would take the videos from "youtuber" to professional series I think.

Win for the week: I’ve kept up with my water intake and I’ve lost a few pounds since I started working out and being more health conscious.
I do enjoy how open you are, and your commentary, and just wanted to share that 😊

Psychologists say that many adults suck their thumbs as a self-soothing behavior. I think most reasonable people would not agree that it has anything to do with demons.

On the yoga convo. All of Isaiah’s information is inaccurate. The asana (yoga poses) are one part of the 8 limbs of yoga. The first is mindfulness then breathing. One could go to a yoga class, sit on their mat and just breathe. That would be considered yoga. Yoga is expressly not a religious practice either, which is why the Hindus don’t care if everyone practices. It’s a way of life that has 8 parts to it that all work collectively to help us live life from a place of awareness and love. As for his comment that former teachers he knows said some poses are unhealthy: they clearly never heard of modifications and of what yoga really is which is doing what is right for you within the practice. Any teacher worth their salt would encourage you to modify even to the point of skipping the pose in order to protect your body. Yoga is a personal practice that you are guided through (if you choose to attend classes) but ultimately you decide what your body can do and every teacher is taught to honor that. Having taken a 200 hour training and being certified to teach, it seems to me that the people telling him things either didn’t understand or developed incorrect ideas and conclusions along the way. People who are responsibly religious don’t seem to have issues with yoga and more people who practice responsibly come away more vital and tranquil over time so it strikes me as very ignorant to spew the biased fundy take on it as if it is truth.
