Oh dear Maude, the snake thing. My old cane, (like, medical device cane), was shaped like a snake. (Carved for me by an 86yo blind lesbian, btw.) I was using it at a funeral in a Southern Baptist church when a man comes at me all hepped-up and says, “How dare you bring a symbol of evil into the house of god?! Are you a daughter of Lucifer?!”, and a bunch of other bs.
I responded pretty much the way Tanner did. I said, “I thought y’all believe that god created everything. Does that not include snakes?” He just sputtered and stomped off. Really putting the fun in funeral, that guy.

A couple thoughts: the type of evangelical Paul is, the heavy belief od spirits and attention of the devil being existing on earth and this belief in discernment was something looked down upon by my church growing up (for better or worse) This heavy mysticism was something that was insulting to god- not that it’s true but it’s so funny to me that he so much closer to being what my church would’ve thought was “witchy” and getting lost in the path
How can Paul be sure he’s research wasn’t a foothold for the devil? Did he submit a note or something

Something I’ve realized after being removed from an evangelical church for 20+ years is the lengths they go to to make sure that you don’t allow yourself to derive joy from anything that isn’t church. You aren’t allowed those “religious experiences“ anywhere but church and they make sure that if you DO somehow feel any feelings from something else then you feel so much guilt and fear, that those experiences are ruined for you, because you associate those experiences with guilt and fear. You feel evil for enjoying something, and then you have to turn even more towards religion because now you’ve been tempted and it’s a problem for you forever. You’re not supposed to feel joy from other things because you can only be fulfilled by gods love. Getting out from under that fear and allowing myself to have those religious type experiences have been so healing.
These feelings are all really, really familiar. Damn. I remember my dad particularly expressing concern whenever I seemed to be enjoying something too much, lest it become an "idol". Like I was allowed to have fleeting feelings of enjoyment, but if you really got into something and committed to it, there was always this fear that he would take it away/forbid it because I seemed to be enjoying it more than the Bible or church. Come to think of it, that's probably partly why I tend to be very low-key about my interests; I don't want someone to think I'm too "into" something and try to take it away from me.
As a practicing witch it‘s always been so funny to me how guys like him can get the thing so wrong as he tries to demonize it. I mean you‘d assume for him to at least get the basics right if he wanted to be taken seriously but all this blatant made up stuff about witches like satan worship and inducing amnesia wich i legit never heard of any actual witch voice as any goal let alone there being a spell or ritual for that is so funny in a weird way. Like, if you wanna fearmonger at least get your facts straight. Otherwise ppl will just see you as a clown.
Are you more like a hobby witch or real deal? Cus if you wanna see real witchcraft come to rural south east Asia haha
You’d also think he’d pick other artists who give off way more witchy vibes than Taylor. Like Florence + The Machine, Hozier… (I love listening to both and they help me get into the mindset for my practices 🤷♀️, particularly the Lungs album). Instead he picks on an extremely successful woman in an attempt to chase clout. Picking one of the most successful female artists currently was almost certainly a calculated move.

As Sam and Tanner said, he’s probably pissy so many people including Christian girls look up and are inspired by a successful unmarried woman in her 30s, and not “inspired” to settle down and have kids. I said something about that on FB recently and my elderly aunt got rather offended, said that the church isn't about helping people materially (just sayin' the quiet part out loud, I guess) and protested that her church is GROWING thankyouverymuch. I gave her a list of scriptures about caring for the poor and left it at that. She complimented my latest knitting project a few days later so it seems she's over it.

I'm kinda nervous that someone in Paul's church or community is going to find this and take it way too seriously, to the point that they unironically accuse him, or someone, of being a witch.
That actually makes me so curious to know how their RUclips career is viewed by the families and other people in their congregation/community. Like do people see them as missionaries, or is it sort of brushed under the rug and waved away? Some of their videos are so mortifying, why would you ever want to entire community to know that you hate having sex with each other?? And what’s the in-group reaction to that?!?
I could share many stories, but oversharing is such a problem in evangelical churches. They tend to encourage a really poor sense of boundaries and appropriate levels of sharing (I think a large part of that is the idea that the church is your "family" even though most people in a church will tend to be polite acquaintances at most, and part of that is that by design you're not supposed to have much that is exclusively private--I STRUGGLED to maintain privacy around my dating life even though it was literally nobody's business; plus dating took time away from serving at church, which is a whole other rant), so people feel like they can share almost any struggle with almost anyone, and they often get a lot of affirmation from it. That's not to say it doesn't make anyone uncomfortable; it definitely does, but you have to have enough nerve to be the one who finally speaks up and tells the person that you really don't want to hear about their sex problems every time you attend a Bible study.
You know how you can tell someone is a witch? They say they are a witch.

Oh man, this one brought me straight back to childhood. I wish I could show other people the mental image I have of my moms judging looks and the tone she took when she found you watching something she deemed possibly satanic. Usually for just being "dark" or having some reference to the devil or darkness as a metaphor. The way I'd have to scramble to defend myself and feel so much shame for not being a good christian while I got another lecture about how "watching that stuff too much can let him in".
I got a whole concered lecture about how I wore a lot of black and she just wanted to "make sure" I wasn't letting bad stuff in and I wasnt into anything weird. And my mom genuinely wasnt even on the extreme side of this.

Thank you Tanner for speaking about Magick and ritual so plainly. I grew up LDS and now see myself as a Theistic Satanist. Words, art, symbols/sigils and music are ones free will. As Crowley stated , will is under love. It's not hedonism as most Christian people think of it. It's organizing and evolving of matter for the purpose of transforming ourselves. We become our own Gods.
If I take anything at all from my Mormon upbringing,.it's the knowledge that everything is chaos matter as stated in the King Follet Discourse. The abstract human understanding of that is incomplete and unknowable in this mortal coil. If going to see Taylor Swift or Marilyn Manson gets the cosmic juice flowing then embrace it!
At 52 years old I can get that going a lot better writing a poem in my room or walking in nature. Why spend hundreds on concert tickets to capture that energy from a wild crowd, when the bookstore coffee shop has plenty of people vibes?

Love the video quick question, would you ever do a dive into or interview of people who genuinely practice witchcraft? Maybe the more modern kind and then the more folk kind you still find out on the country across the world?
I live in the Philippines and many people not only believe in witchcraft but claim they have seen proof of it many times.
For good and for evil. Really interesting stuff that we mock in the west but many millions take it more seriously than any religion.
As an example I know someone who was healed of rabies by a witch doctor. They were already experiencing hydro phobia and it was very near on reaching their brain. A ritual was done and that person is still alive to this day. To me that’s a better claim than any of the Christian goofy faith healing stuff.

I did used think snakes represented evil because of the serpant in the garden of edan and it actually was taylor swift that changed that. Like when reputation came out I didnt like all the snake imagery, but after talking to a friend about it I realized it was irrational to hate snakes because of a bible story that i didnt even take literally.

My cousin's youngest child is 4 years old. Last year, this poor kid came home from her Catholic school and told my cousin that she'd learned the story of the Garden of Eden, and when my cousin asked her precious, innocent little child to relay this brand-new story she was so excited about, her daughter excitedly told her that God had been bitten by a snake and died. 😂Yeah, her Catholic school teacher confused her so badly with scripture that she went home and told her parents that God is dead. They pulled her out of that school immediately, and I've been laughing about it ever since.
(My cousin and her family live in another state, but I have so many questions, starting with, "How do you f#$% it up that badly??")

What Paul fails to understand is that as a witch myself, we don’t worship the devil. There’s no such thing as a devil. We worship nature and work with natural elements. Yes, my familiar is a cat, always a classic, but we may work with a pantheon of gods, but none of it is devil worship. Oh, not to mention, all that stuff about witches putting hexes on people and turning them into frogs and stuff, that’s not true. That’s just a Hollywood interpretation of witches. Entirely inaccurate.
