Growing up Protestant, I remember it being explained as “back then wine = juice, so it wasn’t alcoholic” and also some people would argue the Bible says “don’t get DRUNK on wine and debauchery” so like you could sip wine but just don’t get out of control.

Win for the week: my cat grew up feral until he was about 9 months old, and didn't develop the best cat-human communication skills. He tends to alert me to things by biting. I've been slowly trying to teach him to use his paws and his voice instead, and this morning he made a crystal clear request that involved no physical contact! He's a picky eater, and hadn't eaten any of his breakfast. He sat by his bowl, made eye contact with me, and meowed! I got him different food and he ate it happily. He's (obviously) brilliant, the goodest of boys, and I did a pretty good job myself. Soon he'll figure out how to be a sweet, friendly cat 100% of the time instead of only 98%! 😍

Part of this could be dangerous though because he could easily be using her mental health and illness as a way to deflect from his abuse. "You're just as abusive and messed up as me, so you're partially to blame, and don't get a right to hold me accountable or feel like you deserve better".
I had an ex studying psychology who was convinced I was BPD, told me his therapist (id never met or seen) agreed, and used that to keep me low and compliant, and as a strategy if I ever told people what he did (she's crazy and abusive due to mental illness). He was an expert level master of emotional manipulation, and if Morgan's situation is similar, she will NEVER see the light and accept it until she is no longer isolated by him for quite a while. It took me 2 full years after no contact to even begin to come out of the fog of seeing everything and myself through his eyes. I would have excused and done anything for this person I was so trauma bonded and dependent on for emotional and psychological stability and guidance. It was pure toxic madness.
And when you can both so readily admit to it being toxic, one can use that against the other to make staying and enduring their idea. I saw three different therapists that said any borderline traits were likely Cptsd brought out by enduring abusive. So then it's a cycle of abuse, victim reactivity, then abuser can use that reactivity to reaffirm beliefs that you're the "more" ill one and abuser.
They even apologized to me a year after no contact for violently attacking me once and I said "it's ok we are both messed up". They tried to kill me that time, but I didn't remember that part. So brainwashed. Once she gets away enough and finally allows herself to have access to non-bias-confirming information, she'll break out of the fog and hate herself for being willfully in denial for so long. That's where the true healing begins and hopefully she'll have plenty there for her when she wakes up from that self maintained nightmare.

@@emilywalton4105 well then how would you explain Morgan, a person who swears she’s a Christian, and preaches it in her videos, yet still struggles with depression? There are many factors that play into bad mental health. Diet, experience, trauma, low self esteem, fear. How about the Christian’s who turned away from their faith and discuss how they are no longer dealing with thy anxiety and depression? (Check out- mind shift, Kristi Burke, the friendly atheist, and genetically modified skeptic as examples.) Isn’t it taught that if you are saved and sanctified that demons have no dominion over you? Because Christ is within you. But if Christ is within you and you are suffering from demonic attacks, wouldn’t that defeat the whole purpose of being saved? Interesting 🤔

To be honest, watching Paul and Morgan has made me appreciate my spouse and our marriage so much more. I understand “banter” and “light teasing” which my spouse and I do a lot of BUT- it’s never at the expense of the other person’s feelings- unlike the vibe Paul and Morgan give off. I sincerely wonder how they treat each other and what they’re like off-camera because on camera? They don’t give off a strong, mutually-appreciative vibe- they make me feel sad for them.
And not that it’s ANYONE business what they do/how they act behind the camera but THAT’S the cost of making one’s life/marriage/personality the face and content of their social media platform. THAT’S a huge part of what brought the Hollis’ down- to sell your life, personality, beliefs and marriage on social media like that?! The Hollis’ are proof of the consequences of that 🙁

I’m still watching your video, but just had to drop in to say that I truly do sympathize with Morgan in her testimony. Hearing you retell her testimony sent me back to a year ago when I was in that same exact position. I had 3 young kids, and that was really the only thing keeping me going. But I felt like such a horrible mom and wife because for a solid 2 months I would just sit there.. only ate when my husband got home and forced me to. I tried to convince everyone I was fine, but one night my husband came home to me staring out our bedroom window. I was so zoned out in my own thoughts that I didn’t hear my husband walking towards me and speaking until he laid a hand on my shoulder. He asked me what was bothering me and my response was “I don’t want to be here anymore.. our family would be better if I wasn’t here.” And just like Paul, my husband held me and comforted me before calling my psychologist the next morning.. I think mental health is extremely important, and while I don’t believe in 99% of what P&M say.. I do think it was brave to share that with the world as a “public figure”.

    Hi B,
I appreciate how carefully you navigated the subject of mental health. I'm a former believer (now atheist) who has always really struggled with mental health. I tried listening to the interview, but had to shut it off right away. It brought back too many bad memories from church. I was told that my depression was demons that had jumped into my brain via the music I was listening to. I remember dealing with suicidal ideations and praying for relief but never receiving it.
I have no problems with people who find comfort in faith. It just turned out not to work for me. Hearing Isaiah so nonchalantly talk about demons inside people and about medications so negatively just gave me the yuckiest feeling!
I still struggle in that area, but I'm on medication now and have gotten a lot of therapy. Definitely not perfect, but I've come a long way. It hurts my heart to see him tell Morgan that she's being influenced by demons. He doesn't know what kind of trauma she's experienced or if she's got a chemical imbalance.
I dont agree with most of the things they say or believe, but I appreciate that she's open with her struggle.

There are few things quite as vile as telling someone who is already suffering that it is somehow the result of their lack of faith or righteousness.

The yoga discourse reminded me of a moment some years ago when a pastor of a local mega church publicly decried yoga as a demonic practice. I don't remember if it was during a regular sermon or during one of their massive special events they hold, but regardless the declaration made its way onto front page local news. And the community at large ROASTED them. Like we're in the Bible belt, this particular church has 3 campuses with thousands of members. And everyone was still like, yeah that's a bit much.
This same church also made headlines again last year when during their women's conference, a woman claimed an abusive ex had shot off 3 of her toes and thanks to the power of prayer from the congregation, her toes fully grew back. No pics, no evidence, just her verbal declaration. It's baffling to me how the general public view of this church is that they're pretty out there and silly, but the membership is massive and they get millions every year in donations. Wild.

It’s not wrong to have disputes. The disciples didn’t agree with each other all the time. Jesus didnt come to bring peace he brought division. i just wanna say i think that paul is right (can’t believe i’m saying this) that christians in general pick and choose about things of pagan origin we celebrate. the obvious one that he didn’t mention is of course the festival of christmas which involves a lot of traditional pagan celebrations.
i think it’s interesting to think about why this happens
i think paul hits on one reason: convenience
if you’ve never done yoga and you have no interest in that kind of physical movement taking a stance against it means you lose nothing and gain something to grandstand and feel holy about
whereas if someone tells you going to starbucks is demonic (something which i think does actually contribute to real world harm so much more than yoga) then that’s gonna take your sweet, creamy coffee away from you……so maybe it’s fine…………..
i think there is another significant reason that somethings get labelled as demonic and somethings don’t and i think it honestly comes down to racism:
alluding to “hindu spirits” kind of sets of alarm bells to me, like surely as christians we don’t believe hinduism holds any truth, so what the fuck is a “hindu spirit” other than something that sounds scary and alludes to a kind of “scary eastern mysticism”
where as the pagan celebrations we draw on for christmas, or the greek good that is on the starbucks label that’s european…..so maybe it’s okay……….
too be clear i don’t think any of the things mentioned above are demonic (although i don’t personally support starbucks because i think as a company they’re pretty scummy) i just kinda wanna express these ideas because i think it’s interesting to discuss

I think you are spot on! It was very weird to see Paul making some points that I agreed with in this interview but I do think that as staunch as Paul and Morgan are in some areas, they are not above letting other things slide because of their personal experiences or preferences which honestly I think is very human and common. We all form opinions based on our life experiences and I definitely think there has to be room for that when it comes to how we practice our faith which is why I have issues with people like Isaiah who do not allow room for any difference of opinion!

Listening to this, it just seems like there are many flavors of evengelical Christianity. I think Paul and Morgan seem to be pretty conservative, but this Isiah guy seems extreme, and this is the reason I left the faith. Seeing Chritians like this turned me off to Christianity and religion. Also having family members constantly talk about how they weren't worthy for Jesus's sacrifice no matter how many times they prayed, went to church, went to confession (was brought up Catholic), and did good works in the community. It just seemed like the price to eternal salvation was/is constant punishment. It seems abusive and coercive and I have decided that while I do believe in a creator, I cannot believe that the creator would subdjigate his creations to a life of eternal torment in order to obtain the keys of heaven. I like your construcive comments, B. Thanks.

Their defenders: “iT wAsN’t WiNe, It wAs GrApE jUiCe.”
Then why does Scripture plainly call it “wine”? And if that’s not strong enough a challenge, then consider this: they drank this contested beverage at Passover (March/April), but grape-harvesting season in Israel is September. So how are “we” explaining this preservation of fresh grape juice for six months? And please don’t say that the going argument is “mass reconstitution of raisins” or something. B Haney thought that the majority of the videos Paul and Morgan post are about dating/marriage/intimacy so she went ON CAMERA, to verify and admitted, “oh yeah, looks like they have a variety of other topics too”. I’d respect Paul just an *inkling more* if he actually listened to K-Love and the other Christian radio station to verify whether or not his thoughts and opinions were true BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT.
I used to listen to those Christian radio stations and NOT ONCE did they ever make me feel like I was “perfect” and “did no wrong”- all the contrary! They frequently made me feel convicted of things I was doing and thoughts I was having and often made me question my life, ideas and practices.

My WFTW is that I tried a new recipe for pork loin and it was great!

I'm always wary of people who 1. See demons everywhere and in everything and 2. Have a long list of ‘don’ts’ and a vast list of things that equate to a demonic presence in one’s life, but don't ever talk about the love of God. (Which is how people will identify that we are Christians.)
I don't always agree with Paul and Morgan, but they made quite a few salient points here and I found myself cosigning many of their opinions, (Paul bringing up the Starbucks mermaid and our co-opting/ignoring of pagan symbols when convenient to counter Isaiah‘s anti-yoga talk was top-notch.)
In my 30+ years of experience as a Christian, it's been people like Isaiah who have been the most vulnerable to being deceived because they have such a difficult time with being corrected or even challenged.
