In a not so distant future- a coalition of the old earth’s nations have sought and claimed the discovery of a new planet “Gaia” as the human race’s last hope for survival. However, when the human settlements rolled in, what awaited them was neither discovery nor pioneering but colonization and war against the planet’s original inhabitants. With an increasingly militaristic government that demands the settlers’ sacrifice for the good of all, one family is torn apart when the eldest daughter, Ara, questions who the real bad guys are. At a time where mass think seems to be the safest option, Ripple Effect asks us if we’re brave enough to go against the grain, and at what cost?

This is how a short film is done right. There's a story to hold interest, a bit of mystery of what is going on in larger story universe and a resolution that isn't so open ended as to be frustrating. I'm interested to know more of this story/universe. That's how a short should make you feel, not wishing you could get your 15 minutes back.

    • @brianbrown4513

Seven minutes of engaging, thought provoking entertainment, with a simple plotline holding centre stage, instead of looking like an afterthought in an overblown, poorly contructed mess of blinding lights and ear shattering noise.
    Well done to everyone involved.

Interesting story, good use of narration to provide context and exploration of a relevant theme. I would have liked to have known more about the indigenous people involved in the fight and the impact of colonialism on them - that could have made for another perspective, but I understand time is limited and the focus on one family was the priority. Maybe a sequel showing this other perspective would be good? Congrats Hannah, Margo and Sabina on your fine work. Kudos as always to Dust for supporting film makers.

I don't think Dust finances the entirety of all the movies/shorts presented on the channel. I suspect many of these movies are funded by other means and that Dust is a platform that helps make them available to a broader audience and that can lead to more financing for the filmmakers future projects. But I may be wrong.

These short films just end abruptly and make you want more... but that's it.. They will never satisfy when they're merely more of a psychological study than anything else. New concepts are needed, they're SO important in video entertainment. I mean, the psychology might be engaging to read about, but not in such a short format.

@@CesarinPillinGaming I'm an avid fan. I just found them about a month ago. There are a few RUclips channels that narrate them really well, like Net Narrator and Agro Squerril.

They should send "this-should-be-a-full-movie" commenters to the frontline.

Just compare the different clothing styles of each individual decade. Someone from the 70s would surely say "the 50s had weird clothes" and would also say the 90s clothes are super weird. I think it all repeats, so we will wear 1960s clothes in the 2040s. I actually hope so, some look really awesome

How did Ara go from being a rebel against the government to being a soldier with a micro-chip implant? Did I miss something? Or does it mean somehow the govt caught and controlled her and made her a soldier, against her will?
