More About "The Shaman":
The dark year 2204, in a world that has seen 73 years of continuous war. Recently mankind re-discovered the arts of Shamanism. The Shaman’s school of thought believes that every person or object has a soul. During battle Shamans step over into the Netherworld to find and convert the souls of their enemies’ giant battle machines. This tactic enables a single man to overcome an invincibly seeming steel monster. This is the story of Joshua, a Shaman, who is sent on a mission to convert the soul of a giant battle colossus. He does not yet know that the soul is prepared for his coming and that the deadly psychological soul-to-soul confrontation in the Netherworld will be on eye level.

Would love to see more like this. I have watched it several times. 👍👍
This was amazing !
Wow! This was... different!
Story. Acting. Effects. Everything associated with this production is pure gold! Well done!
Make it into a long film 🎥
This needs to be made into a full length movie. One of the most unique plots I have ever seen. Absolutely brilliant!
It has a certain 'Battlestar Galactica' vibe about it.
@@annakeye it has almost every sci-fi novel in it...
Oh my, if it isn't the top-rated response of almost all videos on this channel^^
@@Igelior Well! Aren't you just a ray of perpetual sunshine? Go back under your bridge troll.
@@ToddHofer No harm intended, my dude. It was just some humorous observation...
I see many people saying this should be made into a TV series or movie. I say these kind of short films are perfectly made the way they are, and the fact that they're short and concise actually give them part of the magic they contain.
I rather think it would be awesome to watch sequels to these kind of short films, where it applies. That would be awesome.
Either way, love Dust and all the great creators behind the art they share.
How is it possible to make a short movie better than a silver screen, the cinematography, the scenery, the actors, the product, make up, screenplay, director, effects, the idea of this movie you should be at the Cannes festival
Perfectly said.
Everything is possible when future awaites
When creators put their minds to pushing a great story instead of a bad ideology, and stop pushing "woke" drivel at the cost of plot, character depth, and plausibility, anything is possible.
Because movies today are a huge financial gamble for studios and very few people out there have taste as good as yours brother... sad but true
Yeah, Dust and Omeleto's quality of films make Hollywood pretty much unnecessary.
This is such an original concept, almost didn't recognize that fact. Hollywood should learn from this. 'Shaman' has the makings of a serious box office movie blockbuster. Bravo!
It would get ruined
@@robinsonbetonbouwrobbo8847 agreed Hollywood would ruin this better off the way it is this is far better than any big budget movies they do recently
No. It does not. It is original, imaginative, thought provoking and hints of religion. Hollywood is owned by the libtards and they put out only crap that helps keep the masses complacent.
@@seangray9459 that's why I said they should LEARN from it. Not corrupt it.
There are really only less than a dozen basic stories that can be told. Everything else is window dressing and flavor texts.
I havent seen a truly original film since I was a kid. This is no exception.
I like the flavor though. Which is why I follow Dust. It WOULD be nice though to hear a new story one more time.
This is why I stay subscribed to Dust. Brilliant.
If you haven't, try the podcast. Some true gems there
To the creators: You have a great story here that needs to be told in it's entirety. A television series or movie trilogy at the very least! Dust: Thank you for bringing this to us! It's truly a unique concept and sparks the imagination on how they got to where they are and where they are going.
Agreed 100 %
series would be good.
Movie trilogy? Be honest you just wanted that creator like didn't you.
Netflix should pick this up,
I've never seen a short film quite like this one. It's gritty and post-apocalyptic feeling. The shaman reminds me of a Jedi Knight, though no one has mentioned this. These are the front line soldiers, much like the Ukrainian defenders battling the Russian colossus in far eastern Ukraine.
One question I have is this: who is the Christ-like figure in the film, and whose side is be on? Thoughts, anyone?
The cinematography is just great!
Great story!
Fantastic piece of work and highly original. Did you notice at the end, the shaman cried out "I killed them, I killed them !". I don't think he was just talking about the enemy troops. He meant his family. Even if his apprentice thought he meant the enemy. Excellent thread left hanging in the air for interpretation.
I had "Shaman" on CC and CC printed it out as "I killed HIM".
This is my favorite short film yet. DUST is everything that the SCIFI channel use to be before it sold out. I love this channel!
The machine trying to use the trick the Sharman uses on himself daily😂😂😂
I love the idea that machines have a soul and can be influenced. It would make a great full lenght movie.
Many scifi stories have similar concepts. First Contact by Ralts_Bloodthorne on /r/HFY uses similar.
@@ZananoQuinito Right, not even looking at ghost in the machine.
@@ZananoQuinito omfg I LOVE RALTS, its so cool seeing his name out in the wild.
@@allnamestakenisnot The wordborg truly is impressive.
Warhammer 40k?
I get really strong Warhammer 40K vibes from this and I love it!
Same, that's why you can never trust the mechanicum, they just love toasters.
Praise the Omnisiah!!
I don't even follow W40K but that's definitely the vibe I got too.
YEP, could be during the Men of Iron storyline
This is so very well made. The concept of fighting AI after their ascension on another spiritual plane is unique to me, other books hint at the idea but this takes it head-on. There are a lot of layers there. This is great. And I loved the idea of a muse being required for a shaman to do their work. They need a grounding-rod to believe in them. Also a very nice lore idea.
O conceito de enfrentar a AI em um "mundo espiritual" me lembrou a cena de Gibson em Neuromancer, em que o hacker encontra a AI na matrix.
Inception and Matrix taste in only 16 mins movie. Dear Dust, please fund genius Kalantari to make this a full time movie in theaters. Now I'll watch this 5 times in a row to make it a full time movie for myself.
Oh my God. That...was absolutely PHENOMENAL. It was totally riveting, beautiful, the story, the vision, the entire idea could be made into a literal series of movies... the possibilities for this are endless. I'm literally blown away. Wow wow 👏😮👏😮👏
There's enough content and mythos here for a full length movie, in fact it feels too dense. Thumbs up.
Imagine this as a feature length film - Epic!
It would be overly simplified and lose it's power. The graphic novel would be a winner.
Boring
@@ThereIsNoOtherHandleLikeMine yes your opinion is boring 😌
I’d rather it be around 40 minutes long, still keeps it as a short film but allows for the story world and characters to be fleshed out a little more.
@@gagalover2k10 Good thing my opinion is right then.
This deserves a whole movie series
The odd creaky movements when the Shaman was controlled by the violin - chefs kiss. So good.
This would make a great movie. It has the potential of being a great movie. Someone in Hollywood should pick it up. I have watched it several times. It never gets old !
One of the best movies from the DUST
@@jonathanporter5223 WIll know. Thank you for clarification.
Bloody brilliant! Why isn't this a series on Netflix? This world is a beautiful backdrop for endless stories.
The concept of the Techno-Mage will journey ever onward.
The lead DID look rather a bit like Galen, didn't he?
This was insane and completely unique. Would love to see a full length film with this premise!!!
You know, you say unique, but I see inklings of WH40K in this, like how the titans are controlled by machine spirits etc.
@@MorteWulfe I can also see hints of Raised by Wolves, with the two opposing factions waging an eternal war, almost human machines and all that.
Amazing, what quality is possible when that's the focus. If only mainstream movies were made with such care.
I first saw this a couple of years ago and it is just as good now as it was then. Kudo to the creative team behind this.
Joshua, a chosen one leading his troops into the enemy's heartland to win the promised land...an excellent dystopic retelling of the Biblical story.
Best VFX in an independent short film i ever watched..
We're going to need a lot of Shamans. 💛💜
I love how when the second time the shaman talk to the colossus she wore black and her tone shows a lot of doubt and doesn't project strength as the first encounter. I just love this whole fictional world I really need to see more of this
INCREDIBLE! BEST DUST IN YEARS! Sound, Visuals, Cutting, Directing, Idea, Skript, Acting all great!
This, yes this right here is why we watch DUST!
i watched ALL of Dust's shortfilms. For me, it is with no doubt absolutely the best! So many thanks for making this superb outsanding short film. i love it. watched it alreasy 3 times. Please make it into a full film.
the wounded healers... well done in capturing that essence.
Holy hell!! The sound engineers deserve an Oscar!!! Great short film!!
A seriously impressive piece of film making. Well done all.
Soul of the colossus is Beautiful ❤️
Please lord we need this on Netflix
I will pay top dollar to watch such an original film
Great cinematography. And the concept of trying to defeat a seemingly-unstoppable battle machine by manipulating its "soul" is indeed unique. The actors portray raw emotion well. However, this film is so bizarre, so much like a fevered-dream, that it is barely comprehensible. It seems like a lot of effort was put into mood and atmosphere, but not enough into a coherent story.
This almost makes me hate shorts. Such a cool universe and potential for epic stories and we only get to see 16 minutes of it! This has to be at least a movie if not much longer!
Absolute brilliance. Anyone else get some "Priest" vibes as well?
I remember when this was first shown on dust. Been a few Years, but still good.
0:41 thumbnail sure fooled me...here I thought it was a Star Wars fan made spin off featuring a Sith Lord/Jedi named Shaman but good short film that deserves a full movie adaptation.
That was a brilliantly strange and strangely brilliant 16 minutes. 11/10 would watch more about this Shaman…
How is this not a full-length production?!? Incredible sets and special effects.
What a nice background and color chosen...congrats for the Kalantari's team, simply amazing short video.
Certified Gold!!!!!😎
agreed
Absolutely engrossing...I completely forgot that I was watching a (regrettably) short film, WOW
I LOVE that special effects have reached a point of sophistication where independent filmmakers, low-budget studios, foreign films existing outside of “Hollywood”, etc. can tell a great sci-fi story without the sets, costumes, effects, etc. looking “cheesy” like some 80s dystopian flick. 👏👏👏
I guess im the only one who didn’t understand what happened. It looked good!
no, i don't completely understand either...I got the fact that the Shaman killed his family...did he manage to thwart the machine? I don't know...perhaps we're not meant to know? Maybe it's more of an exploration on the Shaman, his motives and actions and not the success of the mission?
@@VioletMagpie Indeed the Shaman killed his family. But passing on that information to the enemy was intentional in order to manipulate the colossus. he knew perfectly well that it over-thought, from the personality analysis they did early on.The emotions he showed were genuine, but he intentionally lost his footing in order to create an interaction, an opening with the machine. (Notice how it avoided discussion, making him lose his time first).
Then, by bluffing on the song's duration and also by stating that his file was false, he completly switched the course of the mind-battle. The machine cannot comprehend that someone would, willingly, screw up his own personnal file then go right up to it and then act like it was nothing. It is a huge bluff that only worked because of the genuiness of his emotions.
When the shaman told the colossus that everything was false, the colossus believed that he had something else to back up his threats. While, in fact, he had nothing.
It is only because the shaman guessed correctly how it would react that he could turn the tables.
@@vincentbrunet5408 ty!
@@vincentbrunet5408 Can you tell me the summary of this short film? From the start to the end
The price of “faith and spiritual purity”. Man made.
This was extremely well done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of my new favourite dust films!
This was absolute and total............................AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This and "Orientation" are the best
Wow, elements of fantasy and modern world combined. a very interesting concept
Made me think of how Empaths can be narcissists worst demon when they are fully educated and own themselves...
Very good movie! : )
Mainstream Hollywood only wishes they could produce such quality films as Dust.
If this were a full length film or a series I would definitely watch it for sure.
Very good dust. One of your best.
Wow…i have never seen anything like this before…just mesmerising
Awesome ! I think this should be made into a movie trilogy.
This is the content I subscribed to DUST for
I've watched this multiple times, and I still keep coming back to it. Incredible.
I was recommended this short from my brother and I can see why. If this does not get extended into a feature film, I can definitely see a television run out of this little project. Something TNT would air.
that was a powerful and fantastic short film
Shaman never cries
This is cinema quality and beyond! I'm stuck for words. We need the back story, the main story, the ending, and a shit load of popcorn to enjoy it with!
I wish I could like this each time I watch it.
Bravo!!!!!!!! After watching this I got that feeling of walking out of a movie theater that I did not pay before watching the movie.
This is a beautiful work of art. The story, even though it's just barely 16 minutes long, are crystal clear. I went from like "what is this shaman thing", to "what the hell can a (traditional??) shaman do in future warfare?", to finally "ohhh so that's it!" moments. Contrary to other comments here, I believe this need not full length feature adaption. This 16 minute film is a beautiful complete masterpiece by itself, no need to ruin it with shallow drama. Excellently done!
With all this GLORIOUS original content available by such talented writers, I can't help but wonder why we keep getting rehashed comic book stories from the 1950's.
It’s like “priest” combined with “oblivion” element. but this is something new. I like it.
Wasn't this released years ago? It's still a great sci-fi short.
It came out in 2015
Yes. I stumbled upon it back then when I was looking for some good short form sci-fi. It was great to see it again. It really deserves to be fully fleshed out.
this was cool - love to see more of this world. though AI with a soul not new concept, interesting application here
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 67 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤️ ❤️
Fantastic well done everyone!!
Fantastic short film. Highly recommended
Oh, wow, that was really good. Classic sci-fi, man against machine and written so well.
Absolutely stunning every movie i see.
I love DUST
This has to be one of the most engaging stories I have watched. Can someone please pick this up and do it the full justice it deserves. Marco, it's amazing.
"they turn from healers... to damage dealers."
That had a reasonable budget! £££ 👏👏
This short is an awesome taste of what could be made into a mind-bending feature length film. Bravo!
I am at the 6:00 mark right now and wow.. what a Brilliant Gem this short movie is! I can't wait to see what happens next but in the other hand, I don't want it to end!
It's amazing. both for the concepts expressed, and for the visual realization. it really deserves a television series or a movie.
Can't wait until this is either a full length film or a TV Show!
More of this. The ideas are compelling.
Absolutely loved the storyline
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
This was too short I want more!
I remembered watching this years ago and it has not failed to re-entertain me.. Just loved rewatching it and actually have more understanding of it now than the 1st time I watched it so thank you for re-uploding it...
That was probably the most professional short I've ever seen. Great visuals, sound, acting, production. Just blown away by how well it was put together. I kept thinking this was a big budget affair.
Wish you could have taken a little more time to explain how he defeated her because I didn't get the ending at all, but still enjoyed.
I get Priest vibes. Love it. Super great
"Boss, what should we do?" "Erm.. fire missiles wildly into the ground i guess."
I want that violin! Imagine a violin that can warp reality!
Great acting. Super original.
Ah yes, the ol' Trent Ikithon school of educating magical prodigies. A classic.
