  • I decided to simplify the van build to make it easier to access the storage area under the bed platform.

That bed platform is much improved, Denoy, once you get the edges sorted it will be properly functional. This is always an interesting time for me as I love watching the build process; the pros and cons, and adaptations. Looking forward to the rest of the build series 👍👍👍

Better improvement on the bed platform. Just built a little cabinet for that space in the back. Don't drill holes in the van!😱 LiFe battery is cheap enough and give you twice as much capacities compared to regular car battery and you don't have to worry about toxic fumes. It also light weight too. You can buy one for about $200 and it will last for years. Just my opinion!🫡

Looks like plenty of wood on the open shelf unit to customize something for the spot in question. Maybe chop it vertically to start with, keeping one side attached. Reattach the other side to the halved-size shelves. That would make narrow upright shelves. maybe use other bits to work out backing for stability or cabinet fronts for aesthetics and to keep white bins stable on the shelves.

Take the knobs off put them on the sides and make a slide out, just and idea.

If you cut holes where the battery is stored, you might not be able to go through areas that are slightly flooded as you will probably take in that water to the compartment.

On the bed, maybe along the right side of that long back section, cut it three or four inches in and screw that down to the frame. Then hinge the rest of that section so that you are not fighting so much of that curvature. Probably will need to screw a board along that underneath edge to support the bed.

The problem then is the platform is attached to the frame, making disassembly a PITA again.

@@LivingInAVan I'm suggesting only attaching that 3 or 4" strip (that you could cut off on the right side) to the frame, not the entire platform. It would only make the frame with that strip a little bit heavier, and the platform a little bit lighter. I like the setup you are doing with this van, it is very interesting.

You would think that with the popularity of making vans, etc. into campers or living spaces, the manufacturers would take all these curves out of the interior to make it easier for a build.

I don't think you want to drill holes. If water gets in there it could be a disaster since we know it follows the path of least resistance.

Corrugated cardboard. You can build anything with it.

Would be very light, especially if you use coroplast, but it seems a bit too flimsy for me. This van is being built for long-term use.
