My cot works fine; I just put a memory foam mattress on top and the weight keeps it stable. I love the seat on the side as it makes it comfortable watching TV on my tablet. There’s also plenty of space underneath for backpacks and shoes. On top of that I have space in the back and I keep a cabinet right next to the bed for clothes. Then again, I live in my van, so making room and using it to its full potential is a must 😁

    Great video!
I live in mine. So, I use a narrow twin, steel frame 30×72×14. It has bamboo slats for mattress support. Great design. Fits perfectly without being off balance. I was super excited to be able to use my 3rd room seat! But, it's a drag having to enter from the passenger side. I didn't/couldn't lose the seat! And I love my bed! So, I moved the bed to the passenger side. I found a gaming chair that fits perfectly on the driver's side. It looks almost like the original small seat. I also use black bedding so not to call attention to my home. My seats are also black. My travel bags are black. Paint it Black! 😂.
When I go to a campground, the colors come out. And so does the lightshow.
When in town, I look just like everybody else. ❤️✌️

I like that thick mattress. I have a 2013 awd limited. It's probably the best vehicle I've ever purchased. I have a jackery 1000 to power my iceco dual zone fridge and computer. It's such a great stealth camper. I might buy a hitch mounted spare tire carrier and run traditional tires.

I use a cot myself and it's great that I can put tote storage bins under the cot. Also room at one end for a fridge, cooler, or porta potty toilet. I found that I can put the foam mattress down on the floor if I don't have the rear chair up like you do. It's plenty comfortable for sleep and stealthier. This also allows me to put stuff like a camp chair, table, tent, stove, etc. on top of the cot and I can use stretch cords to secure them to the sides of the cot which is now acting as a shelf instead. At the rear door I put my cooler and food tote. I keep a 12 pack cooler on the floor of the passenger seat in the front and another tote bin or suitcase with my clothes/towels, etc. Tip: use shower caps to store your shoes in when you get in the van to keep any dirt or moisture from soiling your stuff in the van. I drive a 2019 Pacifica so the seats store in the floor which is handy. I use a lot of solar items like flashlight, led lights, fan, etc. that have small solar panels or just charge in USB ports while I am driving. It's affordable to get a small solar panel to charge up devices when off grid or one can always get a portable generator for electricity if desired.

Could you show a photo. Like the out of box idea and want to make sure i understand

@@Grindstaff09 I can’t show a photo…take the shelves, lay them all long side to long side along a space so the shelves look like a bed all laying side by side to each other (there will be two holes per corner, one hole from each shelf). Where the legs would normally go, run Velcro stripes through one hole and into the next hole for a loop; I bought 30’ of Velcro which was too much but I thought I could use it for other stuff…each hole took about 12” put the Velcro through the holes binding each shelf piece together… leave the Velcro loose so you can fold the shelf pieces up like a fan. ..the kind of fan you can make using paper you fold one edge one way then the next edge the other way..etc.

@@MaryOKC got it. So its folded up when not in use like a a paper fan is made but not shaped like a fan.

Thank you so much for the bed ideas. i had looked and looked for cots with straight legs and couldn't find anything that was half way decent. I went with the bed frame but i added a hollow core door. i figured i would feel the slats even though that thick mattress you recommended is thick. can't wait to try this set up this week on a trip to the Oregon coast. i have to find a narrow chair since my bed is too tall to sit up on.

Wow this is so awesome! I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey that I will probably be using for full-time van life. Unfortunately my backseat does not have the 60/40 split! When I lived in it before I had all of my seats the back one folded into the floor and the two passenger seats taken out and even with a cot it took up too much room. I plan on using the same tri-fold mattress you have. I need very little space for storage I don't cook in my van and folding up that mattress without a frame will give me much more room to move around! Now I have to check out the rest of your videos!

Hi Debra, thanks for stopping in and sharing. It sounds like you have an excellent plan. I do cook in the van sometimes, but I am very careful because it is such a tight space. I do think a comfortable sleeping arrangement is the most important thing and if you don’t have chairs, you can always lounge in the bed. Good luck.
