I just read they are so short that the Tenderloin gets extra uniformed officers ( from other city districts) siphoned off to cover there. This report mentions that response time in 2023 may be even worse for SF because of low staffing and higher criminal activity. The city is still awaiting word on whether or not the PD will be allowed to make pretext traffic stops , which will further ramp up criminal activity. The crime will continue to increase with more favorable laws geared towards “racial and social equity” and a decrease in a proactive and visible police presence. Stay safe out there!

It's not news when burglary happens in many other parts of town. When I lived in the Marina it was pretty much crime free. The beat cops used to complain it was boring.

The first priority is to restore order. Prevention of crime can best be done by increasing presence of police or having undercover agents. Since they are overburdened and understaffed the leadership should call out the national guard to actively patrol high crime areas. The guy on the scooter looking for opportunities to steal would have been stopped and questioned and even searched. Finding his burglary tools and cellphone would likely link his buddies driving that late model white SUV. 😊

Sadly it’s the golden age for criminals in SF and I’m in the TL (rough area) and see crime happen all the time. Of course the smart criminals will hit the better neighborhood, such as the marina Dist. I’m not big on the police, but after all the hoopla and defund the police, they just lost their drive and just do what little they have to. Bc if they go out out of their way to catch criminals, chances are in this ultra liberal city, they will get reprimanded for breaking some sort of policy code. So that’s why the things like chasing criminals and something that makes sense don’t bc most of the public don’t know police protocol. The issue is that even if the police arrest someone, they will not be prosecuted, and even if they are prosecuted, they will not be sentenced. So why bother?
This is nothing new for that area, though. It possibly could be more common as there are more people generally, consequently more thieves. I recall I had parked in the Marina and when I returned late at night to move my car to my garage, I saw someone peering into my car and jiggling the handle. I scared him off, but thieves hang out there a lot because the area is always stocked with younger adults who are naive about the theft risk in the Marina. SF thieves are smart, they case the wealthy neighborhoods, not the poorer ones.

The important thing is to understand WHY no police are showing up. Hint: its not the fault of police.
The first priority is to restore order. Prevention of crime can best be done by increasing presence of police or having undercover agents. Since they are overburdened and understaffed the leadership should call out the national guard to actively patrol high crime areas. The guy on the scooter looking for opportunities to steal would have been stopped and questioned and even searched. Finding his burglary tools and cellphone would likely link his buddies driving that late model white SUV. 😊
AND ENFORCE THE LAWS OF AIDING AND ABETTING against ALL who up-front or behind-the-scenes ASSIST IN ANY WAY to get the same penalties and prison time for ALSO reporting the criminals involved. No deals. Just prosecute.

none of this works without incarceration. even if you had undercover agents, even if you managed to thwart some crime while being in the exact right place at the exact right time, that's a negligible effect. the way you stop crime is take the criminals off the streets so they can't perpetrate crime while they're incarcerated.

I’m not big on the police, but after all the hoopla and defund the police, they just lost their drive and just do what little they have to. Bc if they go out out of their way to catch criminals, chances are in this ultra liberal city, they will get reprimanded for breaking some sort of policy code.
So that’s why the things like chasing criminals and something that makes sense don’t bc most of the public don’t know police protocol.

This is nothing new for that area, though. It possibly could be more common as there are more people generally, consequently more thieves. I recall I had parked in the Marina and when I returned late at night to move my car to my garage, I saw someone peering into my car and jiggling the handle. I scared him off, but thieves hang out there a lot because the area is always stocked with younger adults who are naive about the theft risk in the Marina. SF thieves are smart, they case the wealthy neighborhoods, not the poorer ones.
