@@melindaroop1346 that can pretty much sum it up. but just remember better a few visits a month from a parent that moved out/divorced hopefully more, and being kept in contact with at least is better than any form of custody being given up completely and not heard from ever again like my biological dad did with me. But i was very fortunate to have my step dad that i got along with and liked very well adopt me as his own and raise me as such with my mother.I know not a lot of people have that luck or worse I agree with you nobody should abandon their kids ever but i ask you to conceive a few visits and the ability to contact your mom or dad if needed is better nothing at all . in most cases

    Lyrics
Father's hands are lined with dirt
From long days in the field
    Mother's hands are serving meals
In a cafe on Main Street
    With mouths to feed
Just trying to keep clothing on our backs
    And all I hear about
Is how it's so bad, it's so bad
It's too bad it's too bad
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    Let's talk
    You left without saying goodbye
    Although I'm sure you tried
You'd call the house from time to time
    To make sure we're alive
    But you weren't there
Right when I needed you the most
And now I dream about it
And how it's so bad, it's so bad
It's too bad it's too bad
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    It's so bad
It's too bad it's too bad
It's too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    (Let's talk)
Father's hands are lined with guilt
    For tearing us apart
Guess it turned out in the end
Just look at where we are
    We made it out
We still got clothing on our backs
And now I scream about it
And how it's so bad, it's so bad, it's so bad, it's so bad
It's too bad it's too bad
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    It's so bad
It's too bad it's too bad
It's too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    No time
    Let's walk
    Let's talk

It hits home for me. I have pictures of me and my father where he looked normal and like he loved me, but he was also an addict of meth. My best memory of my dad is of him getting me a SNES in 1993, and my worst is him driving recklessly with me in the passenger seat and my mom in the back seat, the most chilling thing I've ever heard was my father telling me that he was going to crash the car and kill us all. I was 4 years old, and now I'm 33. It's too bad, but there is many others that have had it worse than me and I pray for them to someday be healed

They definitely were good for their first 3 records I’d say. Kroeger’s vocals weren’t as growly and grating as they got in later years, and they could even be pretty savage at times. Honestly not counting the Foo Fighters I think this is as close as post grunge got to being genuinely good.
Also agree this is their best lyrically

I reconnected with him when I was 16, he still didn't really want anything to do with me. My step-dad was the only real father figure in my life, he unfortunately passed away October 6th 2021, he didn't even live to see my 17th birthday. Now Instead of wishing my father would come back, I wish my Dad would come back, even though I wasn't his he still treated me as if I were.

I will never be able to say anything bad about this band because they saved my life and pulled me through some really tought crap, so my opinion may be a little biased. The older one gets, the deeper the song sinks in. “you weren’t there, right when I needed you the most” “now I dream about it” “it’s too bad it’s too late, so long” “it’s too be we had no time to rewind” you can also tell how deeply this song effects Chad by his facial expressions 1:57 & tones of voice. Even though I’ve met my own father later in life it’s still too bad it’s too late, we’ll never have what chad sings about either, although we now talk, nothing can or will rewind the time.

The song itself [lyrics/ music] stands alone as awesome. The video is soooo Canadian, I was a child/teenager of the 70's-80's, so many small Canadian farms [ exactly like the one seen here and the one I grew up on] became unprofitable to raise a family on in those days, it was the norm not the exception. My father drove a truck just like that, our farm looked just like that, the snow, the logging truck, ''the cafe'' on main street, their clothes, all exactly what it was like in that time. I saw many families broken up and torn apart in those days in rural Canada due to economic hardship, it was sad to see. I was very fortunate, my father got a good job at a local factory and my mother at a local hospital, they never split or divorced and stayed married close to 60 years, all the while being wonderful parents to myself and my siblings. Unfortunately that was not the case for all rural families, marriages broke down and families were split up, like I said it was sad to witness.

Fathers hands were lined with dirt
From long days in the field
And mothers hands are serving meals
In a café on Main Street
    With mouths to feed
Just trying to keep clothing on our backs
And all I hear about is
And how it's so bad, it's so bad
    [Chorus:]
    It's too bad, it's stupid
Too late, so wrong, so long
It's too bad that we had no time to rewind
    Let's walk, let's talk
    Let's talk
    You left without saying goodbye
    Although I'm sure you tried
You call the house from time to time
    To make sure we're alive
    But you weren't there
Right when I'm needed you the most
And now I dream about it
And how it's so bad, it's so bad
    [Chorus x2]
Father's hands are lined with guilt
    For tearing us apart
Guess it turned out in the end
Just look at where we are
We made it out, we still got clothing on our backs
And now I scream about it
And how it's so bad, it's so bad
    [Chorus x2]
Long time, let's walk, let's talk

    • @Bananadine
      @Bananadine 10 лет назад +3

not a good thing for me, I just came here out of curiosity to maybe see why the band is so frequently derided and yeah, three songs later, I agree that they don't seem that bad at all, it's probably just one of those idiotic fad things I guess, those things really catch fire sometimes and they travel so far it's ridiculous, I mean try typing "richard gere" into Google and see what the first suggestion is, people just love to parrot urban legends that they have hardly any reason to actually believe, and "Nickelback is the worst band ever" is looking like one of those
that said, I do not like them at all, that "this is how you remind me" song gets waaay overplayed and the other two I've listened to just now don't even sound like anything to me, I just keep waiting for the song to start and then it's over--hardly grounds to say "worst band ever" but clearly this music is not my thing
hm okay now I'm listening to a random newer one where dude's Jesus hair is gone, "When We Stand Together", that one is pretty catchy actually... but it's also kind of annoying (to me)... interesting to see that their sound did indeed change that much
still, they're about as good as a lot of what's on the radio, as far as I can tell, and you can't have that many "worst bands ever"

    • @slap_A_flamingo
      @slap_A_flamingo 10 лет назад +2

Yeah there's a few of their songs that get more air play than they're worth like 'rockstar' and 'how you remind me' so I do agree with you. They are personally one of my favourite band but I respect that there is people such as yourself that don't like them. It's just what people like. I don't like people who are like "Hay f**k you man" cause you don't like a band, I find that really immature.
I have heard 'when we stand together' and in all honestly I absolutely hated it when it came out but it's grown on me. Looking at the lead singer Chad, He is a great artist when he puts his mind to it. One of their songs from silverside up is awesome, a great track all around I think. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's their 'Stairway' but it's called 'Good Times Gone' if you like slide I recommend that you listen to it.
I've found that since they've gotten on in a music sense, they've became less about the music and more about the revenue. I still like them as much as I did but can't stand the music videos now because I think Chad looks a little to poncey now lol.
I'm like that kind of with The Beatles, I have respect for what John Lennon done for the music industry as a whole but I think they're a hyped up band. I like two of their songs but that's generally it. When you say that you don't like something, some people get all biscuit arsed a about it lol. Personal preface is a respectful quality, a quality people overlook sometime more these days.
Thanks for your reply man, it's good to see that there are still people on this who can hold a mature conversation for more than a second. Tired of all the people who kick off as soon as someone says that they don't like a band or something.

Ron Skaggs don't feel bad dude, we all gotta vent. my ass of a father stayed around but beat me and my mom while he fucked old grannies all around town. once I got to about 16 we started having some serious issues bc I wouldn't have the shit anymore. he was a fuking pussy. I can't wait till him and my biological mother both die, she choose him and her pills over me. I left and haven't turned back, they honestly both deserve each other. Remember that all those hard times are lessons learned, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I got 3 kids of my own and I try to be the best parent I can, granted I have had issues with drugs but now I cleaned up my act. even when I was a junkie I never abused my kids, hit my wife, never pawned my family's shit, and never left them high and dry. we all make mistakes... it's how we react to them is what make us who we are. you sound like a decent person, fuk your dad for giving up on you.
