My dad did this once. A guy was trying to go me in his car when I was 17. He turned up and smashed the driver's windows and dragged him half out. I couldn't get away from him so I am forever grateful. Miss u dad x
As an adult woman who grew up fatherless I can tell you two things, Yes this song is powerful and yes Father's matter in a big way. Teach your daughter to protect and provide for her own survival, so she knows the difference between a man and a boy when she's ready to find a life partner.
My stepdad dedicated this song to me a year before he passed away. When I went over to my moms to visit he would always play this song for me. We didnt always have the best relationship but as much as we fought is as much as we loved eachother. He stepped up and he didnt have to. He passed away in 2019 after a severe heart attack. I got the horrific call that he was being rushed to the hospital at 3am. I jumped out of bed and rushed to the hospital to be there for him like I have during his heart surgeries and his other heart attacks. I couldnt save him this time and watched him as he took his last breath as nurses and doctors were giving him CPR. I felt a huge warmth over me when he died like he gave me a hug. I just didnt want him to be alone on his final moments. He never left me alone during mine. He was always there for me. Now when I miss him I play this song ❤

Just the most beautiful song and video. As a female and a mum, I admire this video. It's every girls dream to have a father that cares this much and every mother's dream to have a husband who cares this much about their child, to have that special connection, to just know when she needs help and to be there for her when she really needs it, regardless of the teenage rebellion, to just know, is so special.
Nickelback really knows how to make a music video that actually means something, it's not just them singing, you actually get the feeling you get watching a movie. If it's a sad song like lullaby you cry. if it's a party song like this afternoon, you dance. If it's a sex song like S.E.X, well you get the point, this video actually brings the song to life and you get a good feeling

I've had the privilege to see Nickelback live in early 2000s and it was amazing! One of my 1st concerts! I will always cherish that memory because I got to share it with my best friend too who bought the tickets and suprised me since they knew how much of a Nickelback fan I have always been!

I just started listening to nickelback, and I love their music, it takes real effort and talent, to write songs like these they tell a story and they make sense, people could relate to them and their music videos tell little stories and they relate to and enhance their songs, way to go, guys, you're awesome, and pure bliss to listen to. They crank out emotional songs, and with those music videos, they touch you deep inside, they almost make me cry, they are so touching, I never knew that this band is hated, why? They are so much better than anything else out there.

All the comments going "If I'd were the dad, I'd hit him harder" are missing the point. The point isn't that the dad can fight for her - or the fact he's willing to. All of us are. The point is the line "...but only if you tell me to". He's worried sick about his daughter, but he lets her make her own decissions, desn't forbid her to do something he thinks is a bad idea. He's ready to be there as a safety net instead. (Face it: he obviously was right not liking that guy, but as a father, I *know* not every boyfriend I dislike is gonna be a rapist!) That song *DID* inspire me to be a better parent.
I like your comment and agree with most of it. When you mentioned the part about the dad being willing to be there and fight for his daughter and "all of us are" that is not at all true. The majority of dads I would like to think would be like the dad in this video but so many are not and even to many leave before their child starts school.

This song is one of my two favorites by nickleback and I fully dedicate it to my two lifelong best friends Amanda and Nikki, I grew up with them from day one and I knew immediately once I hears this song that nobody else I know deserves this song dedicated to them more than they do, we're ALWAYS there for each other in difficult situations and to this day I tell them that if they ever get into trouble and are in danger, I would always rush to them and help them, no matter what time of day it was or no matter what stood in my way, I'd always be the one to come help them and rescue them, because even though they go to college and live at college, I always tell them they only have one home forever, and that's my heart and they will NEVER be replaced, and I know that they've told me that no matte what happens they'll always be there for me too, and they have been with my grandma having to have heart surgery and my grandpa's death in my junior year of high school, they were both there for me and took me under their wings, and they've given me a lifelong promise to ALWAYS be there for me when I need them, and they've fulfilled their promise and commitment, so that is why I dedicate this song to them and this is why no one is more deserving of this song than them, I love them with all my heart and soul for infinity and forever and that's the way it'll stay until the end of time.

Holy shit I forgot how amazing this album is. I don’t understand how some people only like the old Nickelback or only the new Nickelback. All of their albums are absolutely perfect. When they first became my favorite band I mostly heard songs from ATRR up since their newer songs seem to be the most popular and then I listened to their old stuff like Curb through The Long Road and literally fell in love with their music all over again. They dominate every genre they do and I’m so glad they switched up their style so many times because they sound amazing no matter what. It’s not selling out it’s literally a band being diverse. Whether they make sex songs or songs with powerful messages the lyrics are always fucking perfect. Nickelback will always be the best band in the world to me 💙💚

I absolutely love this song, I have been a fan forever. But this is my dad. I know for a fact he would come for us. He had nothing but girls, me & my 2 sisters. And then all of our friends suddenly became his daughters as well. One of my best friends found her being followed when she was coming home & she didn’t know what to so called me my dad said no go straight home you come to us. He was outside with double barrel shotgun loaded when pulled up in yard & got I met at he was standing on porch. The car took running top speed hit the gas so fast. He passed is passed in Nov 2019. But he was definitely of dad.

Nickelback os a great band. Just like most bands at some point during their careers they experiment with different types of songs but for the most part they have been consistent. Grew up with them in the early 2000's and still listening to them into my 30's. Always a fan ❤
the day someone harassed me is the day I call the worst and one of the good days: when I was a teen I went to a party and someone who back then I considered a friend took me to the side and tried to force me to touch him, I fought and eventually escaped and called my big brother to pick me up. when my brother showed up and saw my tears and heard what happened, he went crazy, his gf and I had to force him to stay in the car and not kill the other guy. when I told my brother all i need now is a hug, he didn't move when I cried my tears out to his shirt, and just hugged me. It was the worst day because I was betrayed and harassed by someone I thought was my friend It was one of the best ones because I realized that no matter what will happen, my big brother loves me, will do anything for me, and will always come for me ^_^

I'm from Camrose, Alberta, Canada. Chad Kroeger's ex used to cut my hair at Nica's hair salon (,She was what you thought she was...even before she met him.) Yup, Mary-Anne (sp?,) and Nickelback is from Hanna, Alberta (, In Canadian terms; Very close geographically.) I've met many people who grew up with them. If one does not get my point, I don't understand why people "hate," them either. Yes, even here they say that. This particular video always gets me. I cry. My stepdad dedicated this song to me a year before he passed away. When I went over to my moms to visit he would always play this song for me. We didnt always have the best relationship but as much as we fought is as much as we loved eachother. He stepped up and he didnt have to. He passed away in 2019 after a severe heart attack. I got the horrific call that he was being rushed to the hospital at 3am. I jumped out of bed and rushed to the hospital to be there for him like I have during his heart surgeries and his other heart attacks. I couldnt save him this time and watched him as he took his last breath as nurses and doctors were giving him CPR. I felt a huge warmth over me when he died like he gave me a hug. I just didnt want him to be alone on his final moments. He never left me alone during mine. He was always there for me. Now when I miss him I play this song ❤

People that say nickleback sucks really need a reality check. Granted yes some if the songs can be racy but every band has done that. You shouldn't dis on them for having a little fun. Songs like this and many others such as when we stand together, edge of revolution, if today was your last day...they are what people need to hear. They express the worldly problems around us and what our children are being born into. Honestly i believe people hate on them because they dont want to believe that that is the kind of world we live in. People are to scared to accept that we arent perfect. I've had the privilege to see Nickelback live in early 2000s and it was amazing! One of my 1st concerts! I will always cherish that memory because I got to share it with my best friend too who bought the tickets and suprised me since they knew how much of a Nickelback fan I have always been!

I just started listening to nickelback, and I love their music, it takes real effort and talent, to write songs like these they tell a story and they make sense, people could relate to them and their music videos tell little stories and they relate to and enhance their songs, way to go, guys, you're awesome, and pure bliss to listen to. They crank out emotional songs, and with those music videos, they touch you deep inside, they almost make me cry, they are so touching, I never knew that this band is hated, why? In my opinion this is one of the greatest bands in the world
All the comments going "If I'd were the dad, I'd hit him harder" are missing the point. The point isn't that the dad can fight for her - or the fact he's willing to. All of us are. The point is the line "...but only if you tell me to". He's worried sick about his daughter, but he lets her make her own decissions, desn't forbid her to do something he thinks is a bad idea. He's ready to be there as a safety net instead.
(Face it: he obviously was right not liking that guy, but as a father, I *know* not every boyfriend I dislike is gonna be a rapist!) That song *DID* inspire me to be a better parent.

Holy shit I forgot how amazing this album is. I don’t understand how some people only like the old Nickelback or only the new Nickelback. All of their albums are absolutely perfect. When they first became my favorite band I mostly heard songs from ATRR up since their newer songs seem to be the most popular and then I listened to their old stuff like Curb through The Long Road and literally fell in love with their music all over again. They dominate every genre they do and I’m so glad they switched up their style so many times because they sound amazing no matter what. It’s not selling out it’s literally a band being diverse. Whether they make sex songs or songs with powerful messages the lyrics are always fucking perfect. Nickelback will always be the best band in the world to me 💙💚

And then all of our friends suddenly became his daughters as well. He was outside with double barrel shotgun loaded when pulled up in yard & got I met at he was standing on porch. The car took running top speed hit the gas so fast. He passed is passed in Nov 2019. Nickelback os a great band. Just like most bands at some point during their careers they experiment with different types of songs but for the most part they have been consistent. Grew up with them in the early 2000's and still listening to them into my 30's. Always a fan ❤

the day someone harassed me is the day I call the worst and one of the good days:
when I was a teen I went to a party and someone who back then I considered a friend took me to the side and tried to force me to touch him, I fought and eventually escaped and called my big brother to pick me up.
when my brother showed up and saw my tears and heard what happened, he went crazy, his gf and I had to force him to stay in the car and not kill the other guy. when I told my brother all i need now is a hug, he didn't move when I cried my tears out to his shirt, and just hugged me.
It was the worst day because I was betrayed and harassed by someone I thought was my friend
It was one of the best ones because I realized that no matter what will happen, my big brother loves me, will do anything for me, and will always come for me ^_^

Geek Goddess I fully agree with you except one thing. Nobody should go through it, it can happen to anyone. However it is true i happens more to girls. I like to think that one day no one will have to go through it and everyone can be in peace
She had other concerns at the moment that thinking about "possible future things that may or may not potentially happen to other people". She didn't want her big bro' away, being busy beating up some jerk's face. She wanted him where he was needed the most atm : at her sides. And he did. He didn't go all "primal alpha male protecting his sis with his fist". No, he protected her by giving her the emotional support she needed at the moment.
Plus, it's not cool to put the responsability on her shoulder if the asshole dude tries to assault someone else. It's his fault for a being a douche, and no one else's.

I'm from Camrose, Alberta, Canada. Chad Kroeger's ex used to cut my hair at Nica's hair salon (,She was what you thought she was...even before she met him.) Yup, Mary-Anne (sp?,) and Nickelback is from Hanna, Alberta (, In Canadian terms; Very close geographically.) I've met many people who grew up with them. If one does not get my point, I don't understand why people "hate," them either. Yes, even here they say that. This particular video always gets me. I cry.
