- Governor Gavin Newsom is putting pressure on local cities and counties to comply with an order to dismantle homeless encampments across the state. Failure to do so could result in funds and resources being withheld. On Thursday afternoon, Newsom was seen clearing an encampment under the 5 Freeway in Mission Hills alongside Caltrans crews in Los Angeles County.
The executive order urged officials to “address unsanitary and dangerous encampments within their communities and provide people experiencing homelessness in the encampments with the care and supportive services they need.” The issue spans 88 cities in Los Angeles County, which has a combined homeless population of over 75,000 people. The state of California has an estimated 180,000 unhoused people, however, there are less than 72,000 available shelter beds.

The courts said it was unconstitutional. The SCOTUS just ruled it was constitutional and states could proceed clearing the homeless.

Beyond this now ALL Democrat, Progressive, Liberal, Socialist parties and factions have legal standing to either follow the SCOTUS ruling or BE SUED for not doing so amongst various health, safety, nuisance grounds never adhered to before. I feel for many homeless people but not the ones willfully creating problems. It’s a long time coming for democrats to take responsibility for their actions and failures.

He had to wait for the Supreme Court ruling.. Had he acted sooner the state would’ve been sued. LA county and City needs to clean up those camps period. Take them all to the Mojave desert and let them camp out there, or slab city.
@@michellebayon2387 but why mission hills and not skid row ? the majority of LA homeless are in skid row and surrounding areas like downtown LA , not suburbs like mission hills , he is only choosing places on camera like mission hills because its alot easier to get rid of the few homeless that are there , rather then for him to go to skid row and try that there , it wont work if he tried it and its not going away as long as california is telling homeless from other states to come to california and they will get free EBT cards with money and food stamps on them every month , and rent continues to be unaffordable for low skilled workers and even many skilled workers .

I remember the time the local rep who lives in the fanciest neighborhood stayed in a women's shelter for one night as a PR move. That is not difficult to do when you know you have a nice overstuffed mattress and Feret sheets to sleep on waiting for you in the mansion.

Some years ago, it was said that the homeless population in one Arizona city were all bought one way subway tickets to another Arizona city, thus "cleaning up" the homeless problem in first said city.
I went to Skid Row the other day and an entire half block of people that lived in tents were missing.. where did they go? Jail is not the solution to homelessness.

I worked at a homless shelter in California thier solution was to ship the homeless on greyhound to Nevada and Arizona and threaten to arrest them if they return .
You have to make sure the funding is actually going to the homeless.

What do you want counties to do about the homelessness crisis? No one has been able to do anything and look where we are with this crisis. So you remove their tents and belongings and then what? Do you think this will solve the problem? This will not resolve the issue. You will still have a growing crisis in your hands. There will be thousands and eventually all counties will have homeless sleeping in their yards and there will be nothing that anyone could do and all of us will be living like a third world country with trash, poverty, diseases everywhere. No escape! This is the direction I see us heading into with this growing problem. Even the rich folks and neighborhoods will have nowhere to run. It’s not about housing, it’s about the MH of these individuals who are suffering. The serious MH issues and substance abuse problems that these individuals face. No one can do anything for these individuals because all the work has to come from them. If they are unable or unwilling to make the necessary changes, there is nothing we can do unless we start bringing back institutions and begin doing permanent mandatory holds. I don’t see any other way. You can offer all the resources, housing, MH treatment, substance abuse treatment, but unless these people are willing are open and willing to receive services, there is absolutely nothing we can do!

What a waste of money. The only solution is to create mandatory rent control on 100% of apartments in major cities. Then give the landlords rent subsidy around $500 dollars a month for the next few years. This will cost around 30 billion dollars a year. We are the richest state, we can afford it. These sweeps are so dumb, those people will still be homeless and have to go out and gather stuff and need a place to camp out.
All this homeless people need to find a job, stop using drugs, committing crimes , also need pay rent Why taxpayers have to pay for them!!!

There are resource centers, there are plans to provide housing, funds to address mental illness issues, there isn't as much commitment by the public to volunteer time, or compassion.
Shelter was offered to 201 homeless. 198 turned down the offer. It’s about drugs in San Francisco.

I've been seeing the homeless camps getting cleared through LA. Thank God for that, but it does make you wonder - what will happen with them afterward? So all of them will go to jail if not in a shelter? But then our tax dollars will be redirected to house them there? If so, where will we see a decrease in tax dollars because now a lot of that has to go to supporting them in shelters/jails? The problem is also that there aren't enough shelters for the amount of homeless we have in California. Now, add to that that a lot of homeless DO NOT WANT the help and they actually WANT to live on the street. They need mental help, but again, who will pay for that? Tax payers. That's IF mental help and/or rehab is even offered. Otherwise, the problem will only persist.

I’m glad he’s finally taking a stand! It’s like many homeless are literally waiting for a handout!🤬 when people make a decision to be homeless, why should they get a handout? If the rest of us can work very hard to keep a roof over our heads…why should we have to pay for a roof over their head? I’m not saying everyone has a choice but there are a good of homelessness who have decided they would rather live on the streets than live by the rules and constraints of average society 😢why should my tax dollars that my husband and I work extremely hard for go to paying to support someone who doesn’t want to work hard for their own family? My husband and I have put 2 children through college already 2 stills in college graduating in 2 years from high school and we have managed to do so while paying our house payment, taxes and the medical bills we have due to a stroke I had 9.5 years ago we definitely don’t live an extravagant lifestyle by ANY means, but we work hard and save every where we can 😢😮 our daughter was very lucky to get a great scholarship and she is working full time while living , going to college in Fort Worth Texas at TCU it’s not an easy feat but with her scholarship and us helping her we are helping her each semester 😮
