Subscribed almost immediately! Fact of the matter is sure, you can 100% find women who have full passion/mechanical knowledge for full scale vehicles; hardly ever find them who actually like rc cars 😂. Very awesome and even inspiring as a young man. Keep it up! 😎👍
The one I got was from gear best at RPP hobby. It's a 20kg. It came as an upgrade kit that included all red anodized aluminum links and skid plate. All for $65.00. works great so far.
Great job explaining all about the BEC voltages, torque, speeds, etc that people need to know. Something else about servo swaps is to check the splines.. non standard unfortunately. So if you have an aluminum horn you want to reuse, ensure you get a new servo that uses the same spline count. Your TRX4 and course look awesome!
You also want to pay attention to the amp draw of the servo you are going to run. I believe the built in bec on the stock xl5 is 6v, but can only handle 1amp. It's easy to find an upgrade servo that can put too much load on a 1amp bec. Even the new traxxas servos say you need to run an external bec for their brushless servos.
Hey, I have the same servo in my crawler! It's brushless which means the motor won't wear itself out and it uses a bit less power. Stalling out a servo can cause a huge current draw on the bec within the esc. This servo is rated at 7.4v, but I contacted hobby king to see if it can be run direct from a fully charged 2s (8.4v) and they said it can. So now my set up is to slice a tiny square of insulation off the pos and neg wires going into the esc, about 2 cm up from the case and hardwire the power leads from the servo directly. (just the white signal wire goes to the receiver now) This preserves all the bec power for accessories and ensures that if you get jammed without noticing, you may burn out the servo from amps but your esc will be fine. PLUS, your specs were just maxed with the higher voltage, and it's a super clean instal with no external bec. However, you MUST unplug the battery every time or the servo continues to draw current and will kill your battery. Always a treat to see a new upload, and of course I look forward to your dog making an appearance!
Nice work. It's good to see someone acknowledge the budget friendly parts out there. If you only follow the big popular guys, they'll soon have you convinced that only a $250 servo will do.. Many of us know better. But some people only know what they see, and hear. Our hobby needs more of what you're doing here. Keep up the good work.
One very specific thing to notice on the stock TRX-4 Electronics is the weak 1A BEC from the XL5-HV which is easily overpowered with all the micro-servos for the locking diffs and 2 speed trans... So its not ideal to install a powerful Steering Servo and run it with the stock BEC... That is why Traxxas recommend to install an E-BEC when installing a new more powerful steering servo.
I am currently investigating an RC crawler. I am encouraged about the availability of parts and that you can shop for non OEM parts to upgrade from the Traxxus stock parts.
Hello there, you can also with your gearbox make up your own gearing ratio, anything from crawler gears which are chunky and will give your car extra awesome power! and be kind to your battery.Find out at your local hobby shop for upgrades gearboxes.
So going to do this with my Traxxas. Starting to think they make them crappy so we who love to upgrade everything will do just that. Part of the fun I guess. I buy used good condition ones and rebuild them. I'm learning allot from your videos.
25T, which means its Futaba comparible, not Hitec. I actually tone down the speed w some expo for a more realistic look and/or to make it look less toyish. **one pointer that was missed, waterproof... but its all good. I seal them w clear nail polish on all servo case touching surfaces and a goop of grease in the neck of the servo gear, above the ball bearing area. (does work) have submerged mine and no issues. Recommend to test w a cheap servo first, let dry and put in a cup of water. Awesome video, ty!
What is the little truck on the table in the corner with the ramp? Also, if you're into fast, durable bashers that are easy to work on, get a Kraton 6S. Also, also. After many years of water destroying brand-new Rustler-VXL tires, the first thing I did when I got the Kraton was Dremel 2 mm holes in the tires along the center-line of the treads.
Great video! You hit all the points. Some serious scalers like a slower servo because it looks more 'scale'. Some radios can control the rate that the serious guys like.
Congrats on keeping your stock servo for so long, mine went on my second run. Gonna be stealing a 8370 from a scx10 build I was working on. Might have to grab the servo you mentioned, way more cost effective.
Good tips. Like the HiTec servos. Was pricey though. Yes metal gears are a must. That bridge is very cool! The dog approves of the servo choice by the tail wag.
Thank you for the video and explaining this. I got sucked in paying 90 bucks for a Spectrum S6230 and it only has 208 oz of torque. A little better then the Traxxas 2075x at 125 oz of torque. Still nothing like 350 or so like you were mentioning for good torque. I was having my TRX4 SCR burning out Ended up sending to Traxxas and they said it was that steering servo I bought that causing the problem. I received the servo and my truck back a few days ago. Testing for resistance and the Spectrum is all over in the mill amp area. 2 other servos pull from 2 to 3 milliamps and hold steady. If course 3 milli amps is almost nothing. I don't know any other way to check the servo. I just know I am not placing this back in my TRX4! I had a lipo let out a tiny cloud in my car after leaving my truck plugged in for an hour. This never should have happened. I did forget to unplug my truck, but this never should have happened! I have heard other people leave their trucks plugged in for weeks and never had this problem. Do you know anu ways to test a steering servo that is bad, without putting it in your truck so you don't damage your electrical system? Thank you so much and sorry for going on here!
Sweet looking rope bridge, definately a great servo choice for the price, if you didn't already you might want to set the end points a little bit on the radio just so you don't burn out that fancy servo by over turning, truck looks great, dog looks happy, keep the rubber side down!
Some good tips here. I'd like to mention though, on Servo Size: Any servo that's listed as "Standard" in a Servo Catagory or Size listing will fit in the TRX-4 steering servo spot. Anyway, never used the Hobbyking stuff before. When it comes to Servo's I usually always reach for the Hitec catalog. Been running off-road with them since the original Associated RC10 buggy. For my TRX-4 I have one of Hitec's HS Ultra Torque series in it. To lazy to go look what number it is. :D
The POWER HD waterproof DW-2/LV look it up is hands down the best servo for the price I think in my opinion anway there around 60ish$. I have them in all 5 of my crawlers even my Trx4 and other comp scaler's the servo's is always the first to go. The Trackstar stuff has helped me out winning alot of races in my buggies more times then I can count there great at going super fast for super cheap even when I would burn up a $300.00 AE BLACKBOX but there servo's kind limp out after about after ten or so runs. Im not saying there bad but they get weak fast. Anyway im glad to subscribe to your channel you do tell people smart stuff and about size, torq and everthing else. Hope to see you all in Lake Tahoe Cisco Grove for Axialfest 2018 yeah cant wait this going to be an epic year.
Hi, just one thing you did not mention. Beside the matching voltage, also the used Amps of the servo needs to be available by the BEC. In my case, I use a little more aggressive servo which leads that the ESC/BEC will get damaged. So I have to use a separate BEC. The Traxxas is only rated with 2 Amps, which is not a lot. By the way you are completly right, it is not required to buy a waterproof servo. I also didn't do that. I sealed all with PlastiDip. regards Mark
Just ordered a 20kg savox for my trx, standard servo works ok as long as you keep moving, but slow crawling when you have to stop to change direction then not so great.. :-)
Your TRX and you are getting nicer and nicer. Great vid and explanation !!! I have also a TRX-4 but not driven yet - but I want to try the stock servo first...
Could have tied a string and weight or pull scales to measure the strength. I heard one guy say leaving his wheels turned burned out his servo by overheating it.
Dang I had to buy three servos for my first ever two monster truck builds, being new I didn’t really understand what differences where between servos, n think I should’ve bought stronger ones,I NEEDED THIS VIDEO A FEW DAYS AGO AWWWG,LOL👍👍👊👊📹📹
You did good girl! Wow , look at that rig coming along very nice with the accessories, challenging training course to boot. Enjoyed watching, found it very relaxed and natural. Love the dog and well.. lets just say that every thing in the camera is easy on the eyes. Keep on trailing RC Girl
Great video and advice! I ended up using your suggestion and getting this servo. It’s powerful and runs great. Question: Did you have to lengthen the connection cable? I found it was about 2 inches too short.
and yet another great infromative vid of yours......and just as I'm thinking of upgrading my servo...coincidence I think not hahaha. I was initially thinking of a savox as its going into a 2wd slash. Cheers for uploading and sharing.
Very informative, great run at the end Rc girl, I know that you're using the stock radio and receiver but when you upgrade to a new servo it's recommended to adjust the end points. Too much turn radius may harm the servo and linkages.👍
You explained servo tips very well and I picked up some tips, thanks! First time I've seen one of your videos and will definitely go through them. I subbed, thanks.
RC girl thank you for sharing this info, Love the rope bridge, that's awesome just got the new TRX4 Ford bronco it Is sweet. Yes I noticed the steering I will be upgrading so I appreciate this information I'll be watching for more Love you're videos.
I have a Traxxas 4 Tactical Unit. And was wondering, have founded by issues with your unit intermittently going forward and backwards, but all other features still work?
My stock servo just up and quit. No grinding, no nothing. You can hear the gears when turning by hand, but nothing when using the controller. Ordered this servo. My dog is bored without my crawler.
Have you had any power issues running the upgraded servo and lights ? Have you needed to fit an external BEC to the truck ? Seriously thinking about picking one of these trucks up soon
When adding the new servo, have you added a new bec ? Or kept the original ? why some ppl say the originl traxxas trx4 is weak or not strong enough if we want to update the servo ?! Im really confused, i wanted to add a new servo …….. and now im so confused !
Great content and presentation as always RC Girl👊!!! Very useful info you're sharing 😍. Nice job on the rope bridge, too. Your dog must LOVE all that space to explore. 😜😎💪👊👊
Rich Duperbash yeah he loves it for sure! But he thinks I spend too much time with my cars when i should be paying attention to him. So he decided to sit in on the end of the video! 😄
what was the name of that servo, just got one from Amazon supposed to be 277 oz in and water proof for my scorpion ax-10. if this doesn't work like I want, I'll try the one you have
Hey thanks so much. I'm really new to this hobby and did a lot of upgrades to my axial bomber and servo was turning just like your TRXR so do you recommend the same servo or what would you do.
Are you running that on the stock ESC? If so it's going to burn out. My 2075x failed after 2 hours use on a brand new truck and wiped out my ESC with it. Ended up switching to a Hobbywing 1080 with a better internal BEC and a Savox servo.
I got this servo and it burn out my esc and after getting a new esc from Traxxas the servo doesn't get any power is their anything also the i could do i do drive forward and backwards
@@TimoteonSK : I haven't changed anything on my TRX-4 Bronco except the color of the body. I often see people demanding more from their RC than they would ever do from their 1:1 car. Careful driving and "reading the track" does not mean one does not have any fun driving his car. With bashing you can get everything to break. But yes, the steering servo is not that strong. Most of my RC-Buddies already had to replace theirs in their TRX's due to fried electronics.
Martin Zurru I bought my trx4 defender last week and haven’t really done much other than crawled around the house and some runs in the yard. I will eventually find obstacles to climb but I’m mostly decking it out and adding to it. But yes I’m curious as to why everyone changes their servos?? Seems to be the one and only complaint.
Many forgo servo savers due to the fact that they can "numb" steering and make obstacles harder than the really are. Many stock truck with plastic steering linkages act as a servo saver in the inherent flex the plastic has. Due to the slower nature of crawling and scale trailing, you can typically spot an issue where your steering will bind up bad enough to cause breakage before it happens.

Great video rc girl, I popped on a savox sw 1210sg
Thank u for the great info! Going to upgrading the servo in my ax10 deadbolt. This vid is a big help in making my servo choice. 👍👍

Love the dog and well.. lets just say that every thing in the camera is easy on the eyes.
Keep on trailing RC Girl
Wow!! You know your stuff! Thanks for the tip on the servo and ESC combinations. It really helped!

Andy Richey lucky!! Been seeing the bronco all over Instagram 😍
Everyone keeps saying the stock servo is garbage.. it’s not it’s been working fine for me wit no problems.. try not to force it!!
Great presentation skills with great information.
More torque is better but you have to adjust your end point and power HD 20kg waterproof very good servo for around 25$ thank guy from Quebec
I have two of them.
I have a Traxxas 4 Tactical Unit. And was wondering, have founded by issues with your unit intermittently going forward and backwards, but all other features still work?
Hey there! New sub here. Im doin an upgrade series on my trx4 k10 so this was very helpful. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the sub!
Nice trx4 upgrade tips~!
Good job~!
My stock servo just up and quit. No grinding, no nothing. You can hear the gears when turning by hand, but nothing when using the controller. Ordered this servo. My dog is bored without my crawler.
Great video and very informative! How difficult is it to put on a new steering servo on the TRX4?
It's easy!
Have you had any power issues running the upgraded servo and lights ? Have you needed to fit an external BEC to the truck ? Seriously thinking about picking one of these trucks up soon
Very useful information. Thank you!
Nice tips 👌
Super epic video love the rope bridge
antione motley thanks!
Thank you for the advise, keep the good work!
Rc girl you are 1 in a million!
Thanks! :)
Very good video. I understand, thanks for demonstration. Berlin Traxxas👍🖐🏾😎
Very informative video! Great Job!
Question, did you end up waterproofing it?
When adding the new servo, have you added a new bec ? Or kept the original ? why some ppl say the originl traxxas trx4 is weak or not strong enough if we want to update the servo ?! Im really confused, i wanted to add a new servo …….. and now im so confused !

RC Girl LMAO😂!!! Dogs are so funny and smart 🤗. He gets plenty of love and attention I'm sure.😄😄
what was the name of that servo, just got one from Amazon supposed to be 277 oz in and water proof for my scorpion ax-10. if this doesn't work like I want, I'll try the one you have

Hi RC Girl great video thanks for the information. That will help out a lot of people. It is definitely going to help me out a lot 💪👍👍😎

Great video, thnx for the very useful info. Btw, great work & awesome add on to your course. Keep up the great work! ✌🏽
great one! 👍👍 ! thanks for sharing olwais great videos with all us, send a greeting and my big like in here
Really nice video - and educational - thanks for shearing! :-)
That dog was grinning ear to ear he's like yea she's mine lol
Nice video and rig doll.
i have a cheap power HD 23 in mine put it in one after i got it over a year ago still running just saying
Hey RC Girl, great info u gave,it was very helpful. Now I have to add that to my to do list. Lol.. by the way awesome course!
Very nice and informative! Subbed
I got this servo and it burn out my esc and after getting a new esc from Traxxas the servo doesn't get any power is their anything also the i could do i do drive forward and backwards

Hi, I put a 20 kilogram digital servo in my rgt crawler and it does not work, it just trembles and moves without control. I do not know what's happening, you have some idea that it might be happening.
Where can you get different wheels for the radio
what did you use to mount your limb risers??
Hey there! It's been about 6 months, how's that servo holding up?
