    Hello, Chuck, I love all your videos! You were a great help in searching for speakers for my Stagepiano! I bought the Presonus E5 after I could compare it to the MTMs of ILoud. I think the Presonus will give the sound of a piano more natural and realistic than the MTMs. I saw the MTMs as a very tight and sound like plastic. The Presonus sound more honest and are even more favourable in the price. I paid for the Presonus 215 euros. The MTMs are also a few nearly 800euros! Thank you very much for your work. You were a very helpful help! Thank you, Roland

    Nice content. ))
    Yesterday, I've compared the Yamaha MSP 3 (smallest version of the MSP series) - the studio monitors of a good friend - with my Presonus Eris 3.5 (smallest version of the Presonus series).
    And somehow, I liked the more airy, very detailed hi-res sound and the better panorama staging of the Yamaha MSP 3 a bit more.
    Although... my mixes sounded kinda similar concerning the frequency response levels (Presonus makes a bit more bass, but lacks a bit in the top end frequency spectrum), some of my tracks I would have mixed slightly different at some parts at which the Presonus Eris 3.5 have shown me a clean mix, but the Yamaha MSP 3 gave me a little warning that there could be some minimally muffled mids at some parts of the tracks.
    But most of my mixed tracks sound really good on both studio monitor systems - so, I guess the decision between both is not a deadly one for a beginner or advanced composer or audio engineer.
    ...
    Edit: After mixing my first track on the Yamaha MSP 3 and my Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 Subwoofer, I can definitely say, that the MSP 3 are much more accurate for mixing than the Presonus Eris E3.5.
    Even the smaller Yamaha MSP 3 show ya all the weaknesses of your mix really straight in the face - and if you solve those issues, the soundtrack will indeed sound really awsome if you check the final mix on every other system.
    Meanwhile, I'm still fully satisfied with the MSP for studio puposes.
    And for my gaming and movie corner in my new flat I've upgraded the former Presonus Eris E3.5 to the new model of the Presonus Eris E4.5 (where you can finally fine-tune the bass frequency band between +/- 6dB and the high frequency band between +/- 6dB like you could do this at the Presonus Eris E3.5).

    Hello Chuck..good vid thanks, with no trumpets/sensationalism. Im leaning towards the yamis and compensate for mids in the mix. Top and bottom end were richer/ thicker with the piano sound but thinner with the Organ and the preset rythm. (According to my ears on this vid).The ns10 reference got me.... Ive always had trouble with final mix levels. Im gleaning from this vid that the yamis are built "radio edit" friendly.

    I have the Eris E8s, and I like them. Usually $500 for a pair, sometimes on sale for $400. Very good for the price, but I've heard the Focal Alpha 50 ($600 for a pair) and they're better than my monitors. Generally speaking the Presonus monitors aren't especially outstanding (except for the price).

      Go Yamaha MSP series all the way - you won't regret it.
      ...
      Those are some of the most accurate studio monitors with the best high definition sound (and no disturbing inherent noises!!!) at studio monitors I've ever listened to (and I've listened to many studio monitors like Adam TV & AX series, KRK, Focal Audio, Yamaha HS series, Presonus Eris series, M-Audio.
      Even if most of your tracks might sound less impressive on MSP studio monitors - but if you manage to create an impressive mix on your Yamaha MSP studio monitors (I'm working just with the smaller Yamaha MSP 3 + Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 subwoofer since a few months), your soundtrack will sound even more impressive on your Presonus Eris studio monitors (was working with Presonus Eris E3.5 + Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 before - but I wanted to use the Presonus Eris studio monitors for my gaming corner, especially for enjoying the sound of modern games on a much higher level and they perform really well in this case - got the chance to get the MSP 3 from a good friend for my studio environment for a while and I think I'll buy them soon).
      ...
      If I mix on Yamaha MSP 3, the drums sound much punchier on other audio systems and the mid frequency section is much cleaner - no muffled stuff going on anymore.
      ...
      Maybe I'll upload a first remix I've mixed on the Yamaha MSP 3 + Fostex PM-SUBmini 2 in a few months to show the difference.

For mixing they get me where I need to go and the titanium tweeters definitely seem pretty direct and not fatiguing at all. For older monitors they're remarkable in their translation for mixing IMHO and still fit right in with the newer monitors of today.

    Great video Chuck. The Yamaha's have less colorisation of sound, more flat and neutral which of course is what you need for accurate mixing. I actually prefer the Presonus but that's because I also use monitors for general multi-media. I have the Presonus Eris 4.5's at the moment and ok they are not what I would call "pro" level monitors but they do the job for me. Also they have the volume control on the front :)

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  5 лет назад +2

      Actually the Yamaha's are not accurate at all! They're purposely lacking in the midrange because if you can make your mix sound good on the Yamaha's (especially in the midrange) then it will sound good on commercial speaker systems, car stereos, home entertainment systems, and other systems where sound is colored toward what the typical consumer wants to hear. This is why the NS-10's were so popular in recording studios! In addition to NS-10's, typically a 2nd set of near field monitors were there for accuracy! Good engineers mixed using the combination of both!

    • @yamahamusicians
      @yamahamusicians 5 лет назад +1

      @@PianoManChuck Yeah that is what I was saying Chuck. The NS-10's are flat, neutral, no colourisation of the sound which is what you need for a good mix. • @Zoco101
    @Zoco101 3 года назад +1

    Those Presonus monitors sound quite nice through my MSP5s (hee, hee) but seriously, what I take away from the video and comments is that the MSP5s probably have the edge in studio monitoring, and the Eris E5s are probably nicer for monitoring while practising your digital piano - which is what this video is about. I'm revisiting the video with my old MSP5s connected to both my computer and my digital piano via an audio interface. They serve well enough for both functions, particularly since the piano's own built-in speakers are doing some of the work, including the lowest notes, curiously.
    It's an old video, and I realise that the MSP5s are no longer on sale, and that Yamaha's HS5s are the replacement - very popular too! The Eris 5s seem to be fantastic value for money however, and they are great candidates for digital piano monitoring, though I might go for something nearer 8" if they were my only piano monitors. One thing though: We can't be very sure what speakers do like sound like when we listen via our own speakers/headphones to a video recording uploaded to RUclips. But Chuck has done all that can be done to present these speakers to us in the fairest way possible, and I know I'm grateful.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Mike. Whenever I do a video on speakers/monitors, or even microphones, it will almost always be as a comparison to another speaker/monitor or microphone. That way the listener/viewer gets to hear/see first hand how one sounds as compared to another. To simply present a video on a single speaker (pair) or microphone, is practically worthless unless you have something to compare it to.
