one of the best car repair video I have ever seen... and thorough. Great job! I usually never leave comments, but when you do such an awesome job, you deserve it.
Thank you John!!!
Thanks bro you made oil changing simple. From auckland New Zealand
Great Video....I'll be Starting too Changing my Oil again in my Cars, because these Shops Charge way too much.....I came here too make sure I do it right with Toyota Sienna & Lexus is250. Great Job very simple.
Great video. Very helpful. My husband wanted to do my oil this time because Lexus charges $85 to change it. I had them do it 1x but he couldn't see where it should be so expensive. This was just what we were looking for!! Thanks for posting. 2 thumbs up!!
This is the same cartridge filter as a Toyota Avensis 2.2D4D.
Thanks for the vid, now I can do my mom's Lexus IS250 oil change
No problem glad I could help!
U did well, now most of us can save a lot of money by doing it by ourselves. Thanks a million!!!
Went through about 10 videos on changing the oil on a 2is. Yours was the best by faaaarrr. MVP!! Thanks!!
You're welcome, glad it helped you!!
Excellent video! Thanks you for taking the time to create and edit it for the rest of us.
Thank Matthew, glad I could help!
Thank you Imran...kinda by the cross member, but I did place the jack back on a different spot just to be safe...not sure that you can get it off without that special tool, I would expect it to be pretty hard without it!
That little 14 or 15mm on the bottom of the oil filter that was stripped is a oil drain plug for the filter. The newer toyotas and lexus have em as well. Its so u drain the oil from the canister filter and u can take off ur filter afterwards its drained n u wont make a big mess like u did. Good vid tho.
FWI: I noticed that when you reset the oil Maintenance light, you can only reset it when the odometer value is displayed. It does not work when either trip meter value is on the display.
thanks angelo, resetting the oil change light also works on the RWD is250 as well. great video
Nice solid car.. Way much better than a c class.. Keep it running good.. Lexus IS250.
Many Thanks Angelo, still helping after all these years! :-)
Nice work. I also have the same issue with the second rubber gasket in the filter cartridge. The dealer told me that they do not use that filter drain typically. That's why mine is so tight because somone wrenched it on by the drain plug and I can't get it off. My only fear is that if that gasket deterioriates you could possibly have a leak. I have gone 3 years without changing it with no issues. Try to put it in a vise and give it a few zaps with an impact gun. It's fragile though.
No need to change it.
Probably one of the better videos I’ve seen for sure. Thanks for the descriptions. Time to go change mine now. 🤙🏻
nice video !
I would like to add to use hand when turning the oil filter back into the hosing so you don't damage the threads then tighten it 1/4 of turn with wrench. Also, use the drain tube which comes with the oil filter if the oil temperature is hot and replace the small rubber ring.
Last, you can do a quick opposite turn on the wrench if it's stuck on the oil filter during tightening. Do not use hammer to bang it loose, you may damage the oil filter itself.
After the oil filter cap contacts the base of the housing only ⅛ turn is need to tighten it. Anymore than that and it will be tighter than the specified 25 N•m. This is not a spin-on canister filter.
sorry for the later reply, I was out of the country. I put a link for the filter through amazon, they sell it for $8.85. I did buy it at a auto shop though (auction auto parts), I can't remember how much I paid, might of been just a bit more than online.
I'm sorry I'm not sure if it's the same for the is350...as far as the light, it should come on when the next maintenance is due not necessarily talking about only oil change...just make sure you do your oil change every 5 months if you're using synthetic...
Thanks a lot! helped a lot! i clicked on the link for the toyota oil filter wrench, and it shows that its for a avalon and tundra. Just wanted to make sure it works for an IS 250 as well?
One wrench fits all unless you want one of the better wrenches with teeth on it to lock on the tabs on the oil filter cap. In that case there are two sizes. One fits all engines 2.0 liters and larger. Smaller Toyota built engines like the 1.8 liter take a different wrench.
See Motivx MX2320 and Motivx MX2321
Great video ,
Thank you for making it. Very helpful, now I know exactly what to do. Not use to the new filter type.
Can you do a post on how to change diff oil??
Thanks Jin glad I could help...unfortunately that was an ex's car so I can't make any more videos of this car.
how many engine oil do you need when you make the oil change? i see you have 7 mobile over there, how many do you actually need it? Thank you so much~!
Very well jod guy's thanks
Keep Rolling with a good job👍👍👍👍👍
No matter what I did lol I couldn't get the oil filter housing off, I even bought the special Toyota tool and I even tried a breaker bar still wouldn't budge I was afraid if I put any more Force something would snap or Break
Great video! Couple of questions: 1. Where did you place the jack stands? 2. Any way to get the oil filter off/on without using the specialty Toyota/Lexus wrench?
just turned my oil maintenance message off using this video, thank a lot for the help!
2 mistakes: you need not change the oil plug washer. If you insist, don't use an oversized washer, it may leak. Second, you should not use 5W30 oil, use 5W20 or 0W20.
Angelo nice video thank you, I will be doing my own oil changes rather than taking it in to do.I have ramps. No excuses now.
You're welcome Jim, by the way I did have the jack in there as well for extra support. good luck!
Also i took my car to get an oil change and i reset it the light off, now the oil maint reqd doesnt turn on, is it because i use mobil1 synthetic & need change every 5 months. Or i reset the light for good?
I'm sure you can, I got mine on amazon. But I would call them ahead of time just to make sure!
You should screw on the canister byhand first till the gasket makes contact with the housing otherwise you'll run through risk of the gasket kinking and u don't need to change the drain gasket on the canister unless you take it out
Angelo Q,
Good DIY video. I was able to reset the engine/maintenance required light but I'm pretty sure I pressed the reset button to long or did something else wrong because the VSC light and engine light came on right after I cleared the oil maintenance light. Do you know the method to reset the VSC light.
hi..I wonder how much oil per liter if I change the filter oil 5w-30 ??thanks
Is there a fuel filter? If so have you changed that before?
Great video bro. I am wondering if you think the Lexus Oil Filter wrench your using will also work with a 2010 model? Thanks a lot bro, your video is what I have been looking for.
Good Vid ...The Lighting Is great...good camera angle...and clear audio..keep up the great work!!!
Thank you...I'm sorry I'm not sure if it will be the same on a 2008 is220d!
This was an ex's car so the only thing I ever did on it was this oil change
Cheers!
Thank you for posting this. Yours was the best I’ve found so far. I’m going to attempt this myself but question where do u get that Toyota’s tool and what’s the exact name of it?
I posted the link under the description, it was a Wix 57173 Oil Filter, Pack of 1 from Amazon, $7.10. if you're using synthetic I would change it at least every 5k miles, if you're using regular oil every 3k!
thanks for this video. have u ever experienced any rough idle? ive already taken mine twice at d dealer. first time, they changed the pistons and o-rings. 2 months later it came back, now its back in the dealer and its almost been a week and still dont know what is going on. any issues in ur car? thanks
thank you brother. thinking about doing it myself. i think the oil place is ripping me off with cheap oil
No problem, good luck!
How much does the oil filter cost and do they sell it in stores?
Thanks for the video, very helpful! One question tho (might be dumb), are the spots where you put the jack stands 100% safe? Didn't know if these were the spots Lexus recommended.
yes it works for different toyota and lexus vehicles! just make sure it's the size I mentioned on there! 65mm
There is a circle on the oil pan so not make the mistake of jacking it up there.
very nice video. Why not use a Ram much faster and safe? Thanks.
Thank you, yes it would probably be faster and more safe if you have one!
Hey Angelo, what kind of oil filter do you use and how often do you change your oil with Mobl 1, I just got a 2009 IS 250 AWD, please advise when you have a chance, thanks
Is it the same for a rear wheel drive same year and model
Thank you I watched a few vídeos and this one was the most useful
you're welcome, awesome glad to hear!!
In response to moviewatchers1024 comment 5W30 vs. 5W20. You might get better fuel mileage with 5W20 but you engine will have less protection due to a thinner oil. Better to stick with the recommended oil 5w30 unless u normally drive at very slow speeds.
it's on the description 6.8qt, you're welcome!
Great video. Why is your brake light on in the end?
Daniel Zhou thank you, I had the emergency break on the whole time...
Man this video helped me a lot...thanks for teaching it clearly. Keep it up!
Very well done fait play to ya taking time to shoot this. I wonder if its the same on 2008 lexus is220d? !?!
Do you know how to open all doors as at the moment only driver door its unlocking.
Cheers again
Unlock the driver's door twice...
No problem Jesse, glad I could help...I would try to do the headline thing but that was an ex's car! good luck...
Is the same for an is350?
thanks dude your a life saver this video helped me alot
Muchas gracias por el video. Needed the info for oil capacity 6.8 qts got it
You're welcome!
Thanks ! Never new how to reset the oil main. Req
Would always remove oil filter first. Encase you can't get it off and don't have the tool now you have drained the oil and don't have a car to drive to the shop and buy one. Also get a better drain on the engine oil with the oil filter off along with the top cap removed for air escape no glug glug on the drain. A great video I am going to do it today hopefully without the official tool instead a strap and or oil filter curved snap pliers. I hope it shifts but at least if it doesn't I will still have oil in to drive to the shop and buy the tool. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome Bruce, glad it helped!
Great man thanks. I appreciate how quick you replied, keep it up.
Have you had the shaky idle problem some people have been talking about?
no problem! to be honest I'm not sure it was my ex's car and I no longer have access to the manual! might want to double check that to be 100% safe!
Thank you for the vid! Btw-- im missing that 10mm? screw that keeps the cover for the filter, where can i get a screw to replace it?
+Ella Mae you're welcome, I would check online I"m sure it won't be hard to find...or go to the dealership
Anywhere that seems screws. Take one of the others with you to any hardware store and match it up. Or go to the dealer.
You're welcome Edwin, glad it helped ya!
I'm wondering whats the difference between IS 250 and IS 350 coz they are both V6 engines the toyota venza or a highlander has a 2.7 liter 4 cylinder and the other is 3.5 V6 the IS 250 should be 2.5 liter 4 cylinder and the 3.5 should be V6
I'm sorry I don't know the difference fugazi5150 this was just an ex's car.
I believe the IS250 has a 2.5 liter four cylinder with the oil filter cap mounted horizontally whereas the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder in Toyotas I'd mounted vertically.
Thanks Katelyn, no problem!
Great job!, that oil was real dark?.
Thanks! yeah was ex's car...
How do you get your steering wheel to move up or down when the car is started? Or is that a bonus feature ??
Not sure Chris Featherston this wasn't my car, was an ex's. I'm sure if you look at the owner's manual it should say how to set that up.
Hey Angelo, Nice video work. What camera are you using to shoot this video?
Thanks Don Kraft I have a Sony HandyCam model HDR- CX580 HD camera, bought it a couple of years ago.
I have 2013 Lexus is250 engine oil cap and maual book said use 0-20
but so many lexus is250 owners use 5-30 ???
Use what the manual says...
is is250 awd 2007 same as is250 2006 ?
No problem glad my video helped!!!
Hi Angelo,
I have a question...i have tried looking for this oil filter wrench in canadian tire store none of the wrench fits it. Lexus dealership doesnt carry tools. so i wanted to ask you will this wrench fit my lexus is250 2006 model??
Hi Karan, Yes it should fit your 2006 is250!
Ok thanks a lot ..this wrench thinggyy has given me so much headache lol ..
Get a Motivx MX2320 from Amazon or the Motivx website.
i like the video man!!! is it the same on a 2008 is 250?
Thanks Juanito! I would think it's the same, but I'm not positive, this was just an ex's car...
Thanks... saves me money by doing it myself.
No problem Bruce, glad it helped!
Thanks...no I'm sorry I'm not sure how to reset the VSC light!
I place my jackstands where you've placed yours - not sure if it's the most safest place though!
great video! thanks for the showing us! cant wait to change my oil soon lol
hi can you explain whats is the red triangular sign mean
hey buddy.. I have the same car and the light came on.. the Red triangle is a system check light. could be for maintenance. it can be reset. if your check engine light isnt on. it could be you have a light out, blinker, low fluid, so check all your fluids.. Check your lighrs.. And it just might be on because your air pressure light is on.. If you had a low tire and fixed it.. It might need to be reset too.. to the bottom left of the sterring wheel there is a switch. it has an arrow button to the right and left and a button in the middle. click the arrows until your gage say something about Air pressure and click the middle button again to switch it off.. Hope this helps
Jamin Clardy yah but i have no sensors at all in both front wheels.
Thats why its staying on because you dont have sensors. I had my sensors taken out of my Lincoln Navigator to put after market rims and tires on. And the light then permanently stayed on.
+Jamin Clardy thanx bro so its just leting you know that you dpnt have sensors thats y the warning sign showing up
not a good idea to put the weight of the vehicle on those bushings
I also had the jack supporting the car weight as well.
Get the ramps dude, $60 to save your life. You already saved $100 doing your own oil change.
halo sir..i just want to ask the different between lexus is 250 AWD and is 250 RWD from inside....? cause the emblem AWD it's gone...? thanks
Sorry Avi I'm not sure if the engine is different from the AWD to the RWD! This was done on a AWD...you might be able to tell which one yours is from the sticker on the side of the door.
Angelo Q ok thanks......
Thanks Vannyfresh, You're welcome!
so do you do this every 3,000 miles?
We change ours every 5,000 on our 2009 RAV4.
i bought this 08 lexus and it showing me the air pressur and the red triangular sign sam time its not going away
+arsalan khan I'm sorry I'm not sure, this car was an ex's car...from what I read onlline it either means you're overdue for maintenance or check engine...
+Angelo Q but brother check engine light look different
it means that the tpms sensor is not installed or defective, I have the same light when I put on some aftermarket wheels without the sensor.
Might want to mention the car should always be warm when you drain the oil.
if you're using regular oil then yes every 3,000 miles, if you're using synthetic like I did on this video I would do it every 5,000 miles.
here is something I copied from the mobile 1 website:
"Oil change intervals can be as short as 3,000 miles or as long as 15,000 miles on some new cars. We recommend that you follow the oil and filter change frequencies shown in your owner's manual, especially during the warranty period."
I couldn't remove the filter housing. Tried using a breaker bar 11 inch and it broke the filter tool. How did you manage to undo the filter ? any tips? Thanks.
+SuperDexterization did you buy that special tool that I show on the video? you need a Toyota Oil Filter Wrench 65mm, the link to get one is on the description
Everyone who has this system should be prepared for a worse case scenario especially if this is the first time you're doing this.
In case of a Stuck Oil Filter
Make sure you have the following...
1. The proper Motivx* oil filter cap wrench. Item #MX2320 is for all Toyota/Lexus/Scion engines 2.0 liters and larger using a cartridge style oil filter or item #MX2321 is for all engines smaller than 2.0 liters using a cartridge style filter.
2. A 27 mm ½ inch drive socket
3. A ½ drive breaker bar (18 inches or longer in length. An extension may be needed for some models.)
If an oil filter cap seems difficult to remove, only the above items should be used (or equivalent tools). Do not simply use a ⅜ inch drive ratchet or ratchet with extension as these will sometimes result in breakage of the oil filter cap wrench or the oil filter cap.
Always make sure the teeth on the wrench are properly engaged with the tabs on the oil filter cap.
To prevent reoccurrence of the problem
•Make sure new o-rings are properly lubricated before installing.
•Use a torque wrench to install the oil filter cap to no more than 18 ft.lbs (25 N•m). Oil filter drainplug = 9 ft.lbs. (12.5 N•m)
* If you think the Motivx tools are too expensive at least consider the following... Do not buy an oil filter cap wrench that is made from cast aluminum. Only buy one that is forged. Do not buy one that is strictly a cap wrench that does not have teeth. Do not buy one that claims to fit all models or even all four cylinders. The 2.0 and 2.5 liter four cylinder engines use the same oil filter cap wrenches as the six and eight cylinder engines use. Only the 1.8 and 1.3 liter engines use a different size oil filter cap and oil filter cap wrench. If the oil filter for your four cylinder vehicle comes with one o-ring instead of two then your vehicle takes the same wrench as a Prius or Corolla (unless it's a six cylinder). If your oil filter comes with two o-rings & a service pipe for draining the filter then your oil filter cap takes the same wrench as the six and eight cylinder engines. Some companies claim their wrench works for all four cylinders but on the 2.5 liter engines that smaller wrench does not engage the teeth on the wrench to the tabs on the oil filter cap. It may work if your oil filter cap is not stuck but it is a poor choice. They are mislead.
For those that don't believe this is a problem...
ruclips.net/video/Wm-VMIkTw6k/видео.html
So it's a plastic washer for the drain plug??
Yes
Angelo Q so you have to order replacement washers then I'm assuming?
You're welcome T!
very nice and detailed video. good job
Thanks for the video. Much appreciated
Inda Ceja You're welcome!!
To be honest I'm not sure but I would think that it does.
you can get the oem Toyota for the same price
Great video...very helpful...
Thank you, glad I could help!!
Thanks so much for this! Really helped me out a lot.
Any idea if the tool will work on a 2007 es350?
Sorry Jonny I'm not sure, just tried to do a quick search online but didn't see anything...this was just an ex's car...not seeing anything on the manual for your car about a wrench either so it might just be the regular type of filter!
Pretty good video for the first time! ( at least on this vehicle ) 😆 I owe you a big thank you! Besides learning how to change filter on this particular car I learned the proper way to jack it up (*_*) Thanks for that
