This review is purely about the Quasar tent and does not reflect this retailer at all.
We bought a Quasar tent in 1995 from Wild Country & enjoyed 20 years of perfect usage from it with no problems. We sprayed it occasionally to increase water repellency. It had Easton tent poles.
Now in 2015 we bought another Quasar ETC model (exactly same quasar design only with porch extension) from Terra Nova (who bought wild country). We have pitched it 5 times over a 1 year period in calm weather in sheltered campsites in Scotland & Lake District. All 3 red tent poles have since broken in the same mid section of pole & tore inner tent pole sleeve. Current red poles are extruded Reflex poles.We contacted TN multiple times and have been advised by their cust serv manager Andrew Swain its normal wear & tear! They claimed we didn't pitch properly. Our previous quasar tent of exact same design had NO problems at all & we are very proficient at pitching this & many other designs due to our jobs & lifestyle. We have strongly disputed this with them but they are not interested & seem happy that a £600+ expedition 4 season tent reaches its wear & tear limit within 5 pitches. Their offer of reduced prices to replace red poles & repair sleeve is totally unacceptable.We are taking this up with the U.K. consumer rights & trading standards.I cannot recommend strongly enough avoiding buying anything from Terra Nova till they start providing adequate poles. Tent design is excellent but totally let down by useless poles & incompetence from TN to acknowledge any problem whatsoever.Many other similar reviews regards pole failures on Google.
Terra Nova are totally at it.. I recommend the Mobi Garden 2 plus 4 Season mountaineering expedition tent 133 USD From Aliexpress .. This tent is just as good if not better than a quasar..And lighter..
Can I ask what you sprayed your tent with? I’m about to receive the expedition version today.
An almost completely useless review of what is a brilliant tent. From your review I would struggle to know that this wasn't just another festival tent. You managed not to mention that this is one of the most stable mountain tents made, that these tents are regularly seen on the South Col of Everest and that they have the finest reputation of any mountain tent made. You overlooked the fact that at 4.3kg its actually quite heavy and not a great backpacking tent. Do the words full geodesic mean anything to you?? presumably not as you forgot to mention them amongst your torrent of statistics and measurements. Waterproof up to 8000mm??? Do me a favour, what does that actually mean?? You need to explain the term hydrostatic head and what it means. Back to school please boys. If you are going to do these reviews please try and do a proper job,
