"Can I run Minecraft in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS in Super Mario Maker in Super Mario Maker 2 on the NES running with only 2 AA batteries on a Donkey Kong arcade machine running on an Atari 7800?"
You're a legend, keep going! And for your next challenge getting the most out of this low-end hardware, I'd recommend some lightweight Linux OS to make things possible. This is much more common than I thought on the PPC iMacs! This is gonna get a bit complex so buckle up! Linux has made strides in useability recently - but for things like these it can still be a hassle. So you're in for a challenge, but that's what you wanted! (I recommend keeping macOS btw) and this is not jailbreaking and is completely allowed. ok this will be long here I go yapping again From my research a lightweight version of Ubuntu Linux called Lubuntu has worked for some people. Linux is just a kernel, the bare bones of the OS, so what you're seeing with a full Linux-based OS distributed as a 'distribution' or 'distro' has a bunch of extra stuff on top of it like a shell (what you use in the terminal, usually similar to that of macOS!), display manager and window server or compositor, a desktop environment (what you actually interact with) and a whole lot of other stuff. Linux systems' modularity is what makes them great for all kinds of stuff while still supporting a lot! The Steam Deck runs Linux, even able to play games that only support Windows (to some extent), and it works really well on low-end machines with the appropriate distro. A specially made project MintPPC stopped working late 2023 (as of writing), so we'll use Lubuntu. Installing it seems to be the hardest bit, which, like most OSes, involves booting from a CD or USB drive which has been flashed with the OS installer's ISO file. And usually the installer has a feature where you can try it out on the hardware from the drive before even installing it, so you can test it to make sure there's nothing horribly wrong. Once installed games should work fine. I don't know if it'll be faster or slower than macOS, but game compatibility should be fine. Not perfect, but if a game only supports Windows, you can use Steam's compatibility layer Proton to run them just as well (usually). Whether they run well or not... that's a different story that also depends on the hardware. To get the install drive right, have a look here: lowendmac.com/2018/installing-linux-on-powerpc-macs/ I'm here if you need help! If you don't need this, don't bother though. Happy hacking! edit: crap I realised you already knew half of that from a previous video. Oh well, the link is useful!
I have just found your running Minecraft on a ds video and as a tech nerd such as myself, I instantly fell in love with your videos, so keep up the good work
Yeah my iMac was making similar noises when I got it, after I finally got a new hard drive in it the fly back gave out, sometimes I hear it can be as simple as a cold solder joint, but that still requires a lot of disassembly, mine just sits next to my G4 iMac on a shelf for now, maybe someday I’ll get it working again.
try running minecraft on the first iphone next (trust me, you'll be a legend after that, this takes a stupidly long amount of time to do, even on its latest firmware update), btw love your content, keep up the amazing work and dedication!
get the c+ version to run on it somehow. there's gotta be some leaked code out there, or at least someone willing to compile a "from scratch" version of it?
Yes, it's possible to run an older version of Minecraft on an iMac G3, but it would still require some compromises: 1. _Minecraft version_: You'd need to find a very old version of Minecraft, possibly from 2010 or earlier (e.g., Minecraft Classic or Minecraft Alpha), which might be compatible with Java 5 and PowerPC processors. 2. _Java version_: You'd need to install an older version of Java, such as Java 5, which is the latest version compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). 3. _Performance_: Even with an older version of Minecraft, the performance might be poor due to the iMac G3's limited hardware resources (e.g., 512 MB RAM, 700 MHz PowerPC processor). Keep in mind that: - Minecraft Classic is a browser-based version and might not require Java. - Older versions of Minecraft might not have the same features and gameplay as newer versions. If you're feeling adventurous, you can try searching for older Minecraft versions and Java 5, but be aware that compatibility and performance issues are likely.
The sheer amount of dedication required to keep making videos for 16 years is insane!!! You deserve that "banger"!
16 years?

I think your iMac has early stages of flyback transformer issues which can kill it in the future

Yes, it's possible to run an older version of Minecraft on an iMac G3, but it would still require some compromises:
Keep in mind that:
- Minecraft Classic is a browser-based version and might not require Java.
- Older versions of Minecraft might not have the same features and gameplay as newer versions.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can try searching for older Minecraft versions and Java 5, but be aware that compatibility and performance issues are likely.
