UPDATE! Here's a recent interview with Miyazaki, where he specifies that the game is staying true to its Armored Core roots: www.ign.com/articles/armored-core-6-looks-to-be-more-armored-core-than-soulsborne?
Considering all the evidence I presented in this video, I still think that the game will have some new elements, but I'm glad that they're honoring the old Armored Core style. I'll encourage everyone to try Armored Core no matter what, and I'm excited to see gameplay and finally understand what's going on with this franchise

I remember as a kid this was the hardest game I played in PS 1 simply due to the 3d maneuvering. After replaying as an adult I realized you can cheese the AI. Hopefully they improved the AI a bit.
      XD

I'll reply to this post for visibility. To fix your shader problem you do 2 simple steps.
      1. In RPCS3 go to Configuration -> GPU -> Check Write Color Buffers.
      2. In RPCS3 go to Configuration -> Advanced -> Check Read Color Buffers
On a side note for anyone interested the Armored Core Franchise has multiple universe with 5 so far. There are as follows.
      Original Universe:
Armored Core -> AC: Project Phantasma -> AC: Master of Arena -> Armored Core 2 -> Armored Core 2: Another Age
      Armored Core 3 Universe (Layered):
AC3 -> AC: Silent Line -> AC: Nexus -> AC: Formula Front -> AC: Nine Breaker -> AC: Last Raven
      Armored Core IV Universe (NEXT):
AC IV -> AC: For Answer
      Armored Core V Universe (FATHER):
AC V -> AC: Verdict Day
For those interested, The Layered Universe offers a good introduction to "classic" Armored Core and general customization concepts, while I would say the NEXT universe offers a good introduction to "modern" armored core in terms of playability and feel. AC IV is a bit faster than AC V, but AC V was a bit more tactical in its game design compared to previous installments as it had an emphasis on multiplayer (Especially Verdict Day). It remains to be seen what AC VI will be like so you're welcome to try the FATHER universe as well.
TLDR: If you're playing armored core and notice that the companies/corporations names are different, you're probably in a different universe.

about the poison swamp thing: there was a mission in the very first armored core game that had you going through an underground bunker that had purple gas going through the entire place and this gas dealt damage to you're AC over time. so it may not be a swamp, but it is a massive poison area that most people hated going through...the good ol' From Soft treatment...

I remember playing these games back when I was a younger guy on the PSX. It was surprisingly deep - allowing you to not only build every aspect, but also create custom emblems on your mech as far back as the late 90s, but the weirdest thing was how the early pre-PS2 era controls worked. You used the shoulder triggers to look up and down.
My favorite one though (I forget which) from back in the day when I was following every Armored Core release closely, was the one where you could do this like "overboost" trick by pressing both L3 and R3 at the beginning of a match - and would then surpass your mech's systems limitations... but at the cost of basically a timer before your entire system overheated and you were a sitting duck.
Every match, I'd hit that overboost and just try to wail on my opponent as fast as possible before overheating - basically turning each match into a speed-run / shortened time attack mode.

Earth is pretty much uninhabitable and the last of humanity are in these colossal ships flying above the dangerous winds/atmosphere. The main evil guy says that humanity needs to evolve on the planet and need to survive or die on the planet and tasks you with destroying them. Each aircraft holds a million humans in them, and you gotta target certain areas of them while dealing with their defense systems. The main bad guy is on your comms while you're doing this, and begins counting "1 million dead... 2 million... 3 million" as you blow up these aircraft.
Then the next mission is possibly the hardest in the game. You're set into a trap and everyone who you worked with and once called you their ally comes down and fights you, and basically say you're an absolute monster who needs to end. Even the comms lady who did all the mission briefs and updates in missions and tutorials appears in her own AC to try to stop you. It's one of the hardest missions in the game, but it does a great job of conveying this desperate stand by the allies to stop you.

You make your mech, from the boosters, to the generator, to the chassis of the body or the core, the head, the radar system, the targeting system, the overboost system in which allows you to go ridiculously fast, its generator dependent if I remember correctly, as well as a turbo system I think? I am not 100 sure on the turbo system. The "meta" in AC1 was a heavy build with moderate speed and a ton of power that can one shot other mechs, I think 2-3 were missle metas? idk, and I'm not sure but I think after 3 it became more about mobility and all that jazz. I am curious to see how they do it this time around. I just started playing Elden Ring for the first time. I started last week and I LOVE IT!!! Sleepless nights countless bosses and one hell of a great investment. Best $60 spent ever. I loved every AC game I've played. I know FROMSOFTWARE will not disappoint. @VaatiVidya

This was one of the more radical aspects in AC: For Answer that really hooked me. As you play, you learn that there is a bit of a grind and farm aspect to it as well. Where, yes things are mission based, but depending how well you do on your missions your rewards vary. So the first time through, you might not get an S ranking; but, several times through, you start to memorize mechanics and build your mech to be stronger/faster/more dynamic/harder hitting/whatever. Through that you can more readily achieve that coveted S ranking and obtain more powerful loot.

I have mind blowing memories of renting armored core 3 for my ps2 back in like 2003. There was a set of arena missions where you would fight 1v1 with other mechs, and figuring out what combinations of weapons and parts would help in overcoming each new challenger was a blast. One of the key aspects was balancing mobility and firepower. As an example you can swap your bipedal legs for a hovering jet platform that allows you to zip around but prevents you from using heavy ordnance, or you can lumber about on a more stable four legged configuration that lets you bring the big guns but forces you to carefully time your brief windows of mobility, making you vulnerable to faster enemies who can close quickly.

@Edgar Gad in ac4 there was a single mission where you had to hunt down some desperate goons in Normals who were inside a reactor. Sometimes it would just drain your primal armour.
In the depths of each reactor core, you'd lose hundreds of armour points per second.
Also there were a few missions where you couldn't use primal armour, and were thusly way less tanky, and also slower since you couldn't use Overboost either. And there were a few nighttime missions with terribly limited visibility too.
AC4a was far more forgiving on that score, it just kicked the hell out of you old school style most of the time. Very few missions messed you around with the environment.

another thing worth noting is that all of the cinamatic trailers for all of the games had cool promises of things you could inspect in gameplay. the best example i can give is if you watch AC4: for answer's trailer it shows a mech being rocketed on that giant booster array towards a giant walking battel station, then a few missions into the game your playing that same mission. every major feature added to each game shows up in these trailers. it makes watching the new trailer all the more exciting. The energy shields; That odd grenade spray weapon in the quad mech's left hand; the electric jolt device off the second mechs torso; even the cool folding visor and the mech scavanging for parts with a backpack will probably make into gameplay some how. their's a ton to unpack in it.

I've played Armored Core 4 and Armored Core 4: Answer, Armored Core V and Armored Core V: Verdict Day, and I can honestly tell you the skill ceiling in AC4 and AC4A to control your AC was high, so many nuances were built into the game that affected your ACs capabilities in some of the most highly stressful combat situations you could face. You were a force to be reckoned up until the enemy sent their ace Pilot[s] to take you head on. A memory I had from AC:4A was doing absolutely well on my mission then later discovering I had to fight four Ace pilots that kept wiping the floor with me and standing in one place too long or worse yet moving too slow would have me hurting from missiles and gunfire on either side, luckily I had a build that allowed me to turn my AC on dime with the boost that allowed me to escape a dire situation and turn the tables in a split second moving through dunes and using buildings for cover before flying out gun out of their range. Launching satellites to better improve my CPUs aiming range and installing parts on my build that allowed it to better have an extended range and a chance at engagements at ranges that it otherwise could not. The expense was light, armor and other stats I could go without. The fight was wild. It took planning and good skill and management of my weight, power supply, KP and AP, the tuning system. SO much could be said about the older games and I hope AC: Fires of Rubicon, doesn't limit itself like AC: V and AC: VD, I missed fine tuning my mech and the extra areas where I can customize it. I talked about only one mission and went into some of my most memorable details of 4A but nothing beats those epic, grand scale battles when it's you against the giant enemy fortresses. Funny story, it wasn't until I purchased Dark Souls 3 that I realized FromSoft developed Armored Core since 1997. That's more than 20 years creating an IP and after their last 2012 release taking a decade long break but still hard at work developing AC: Fires of Rubicon I look forward to entering the cockpit of my AC again. I will relish every moment I spend in the battlefield. I'll learn from every loss and improve until the mission is a success. If Dark Souls has taught me anything it's that you can never give up, you must keep trying and keep getting better and better until you eventually defeat and conquer your obstacles. The first game to show me that was Armored Core, but Dark Souls refined it and made the challenge all the more fun (and addicting) with built up anticipation for a satisfying end where I finally win.
Knowing FromSoftware is working back to what made AC so great and applying what they learned from developing Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, all I can say is I welcome my fellow Tarnished, Hunter's, and Soul's brothers and sisters into the fold. I am one player who is extremely overjoyed to have you with us, and my feelings are shared and magnified even by all of us Ravens, NEXTs, and Mercenary Pilots. We have a lot to look forward to.

Armored Core was always one of my favorite game series.
I played all of the cores from 1-3. The best part were the parts.
You would increase your garage options until you could build whatever mech suited your style of play. There were lots of weapons and parts, but building a mech suited for the mission was key. On long missions ammo becomes a key factor.
I liked creating ultra mobile flyers with a strong blade and beam rifle.

This game series is absolutely incredible. What really stands out to me is the story, especially in For Answer. Starting off as just a mercenary trying to get some cash and slowly realizing there's bigger forces at play. Which side are you on? Who can you trust? Or should you just blow up all of society. And also love how white glint is the poster boy for all cinematics, one of my fav mech designs 🙌🏽

Same story as last raven, just slightly more player focused. In last raven we were a mercenary at the start an then a suspicious amount of missions with high difficulty start to pop up. A mission about scorting a train turns into a fight against another raven we where not informed about. A mission about an assault in an industrial facility also turns into a fight with another raven, stealing something on a military facility turns into a time race for a self destruct protocol we where not informed about either.
The story makes it clear, your employer wants you dead, all of them. How? we where supposed to be working for several contractors at odds with each other, but most importantly, why?
