      That's a _massive_ shame.
It would've been nice to have had a dedicated game like Sekiro for Casters, that way Caster gameplay could finally get an actual update over the damn Tower Defense Simulator gameplay that has been plaguing the series.
There are so many issues with the current Caster gameplay formulate, but instead of actually making some real improvements, FROM decides to sweep it under the rug and tells you to play as a Spellblade instead of resolving the glaring issues.
The literal number one complaint against Caster gameplay is the lack of overall interaction between the player vs enemies, which makes the encounters overall easier to complete. Instead of finally fixing the issue in Elden Ring, they have doubled down on staying with these problems ever since DS3.

One thing to keep in mind is that Miyazaki has repeatedly said in interviews that he works on gameplay elements before adding a story. If this is the case, it’s possible he wouldn’t need a co-author until later in the development process.

Also Mistborn definitely does not take place in a castle primarily but rather the entire city. High recommend his work however. My two biggest gripes, are that Catalysts are treated as a supporting tool rather than the primary weapon for a Caster, and that it's Dexterity that's oddly tied to Cast Speed rather than Mind.
Early Caster Elden Ring gameplay, Casters basically have to play as a Spellblade instead of as a Caster until you can level Mind and your Spellcasting stat high enough so that your FP isn't entirely drained from a few minor encounters.
I honestly wouldn't mind the damage ceiling for spells being dropped a bit, if we could get some actual gameplay improvements.

Honestly, they'd probably just bastardize it like what WotC did with Lord of the Rings. The set looked like it was pulled from Amazon's Rings of Power series rather than from the actual source material.
Now if it was WotC from 16+ years ago, I'd agree with your sentiment.

  • @bellsgg

This has me thinking that from soft has these games ready to go and then they slowly market the games to generate hype while the game is like 90% finished. I cant imagine them pumping out such quality titles in the amount of time that they do just based off the fact that they are an amazing development company (which they are). Im starting to think about this with Elden Ring too. WHat if they game was near completion, and then they released the first trailer knowing how much of it they already had done, and i dont mean they were halfway through, or had already started working on it, but seriously near completion..
The way lies of p came out makes me think that round 8 is possibly following the same workflow. They have a roadmap with the dlc already planned out before the game even launched. i know its not foreign for companies to have a plan over the course of years, but idk, this takes it to a whole nother level. Something i feel like Cod tries to do and fails every time because they just dont seem to care enough about that level of detail or quality assurance.
I could be overthinking here but its kinda fun to think about and, well, what these videos you make are about. To spark conversation based on the speculation. From soft may be more ahead than we can imagine.

    Hola Ziostorm
You’re right that there is some alignment in the big picture, but it seems like the evidence is a stretch
There is a generic map in one of Brandon Sanderson’s hundreds of books has very vague similarities - they are both cities with a castle and a river running thru them
Regarding the Kaladin art, they are both Victorian era fantasy characters wearing a somewhat similar tone of blue. There is so much art for Brandon Sanderson’s thousands of books you can probably find a match for anything (on that vague of a level)
Also, the magic aura color seems similar to what FS games have used in the past. It seems possible the artist was inspired by FS, rather than the other way around
And yes, Brandon Sanderson is the magic system guy, but of course that doesn’t mean it was Miyazaki’s inspiration for making a more magically focused games (at least 99% of existing magically focused games were not inspired by Brandon Sanderson, LOL)
Anyway, your totally right that there is alignment, and it’s interesting to think about and possibly be excited about for sure. Just wanted to drop my two cents on evidence you presented
And that is awesome that your working in a novel. Taking your content creation to the next level!!

Note to the time needed: Brandon Sanderson writes 2 books in the time it takes for Martin to write a page it's ridiculous how fast this guy releases his books. (Some stormlight Audio books have a recording time of 30+ hours)
Sanderson is so good at world building and imho the magic in his books is amazing!
His magic systems for storm light, mistborne and the cytomic books are so different and all follow their logic without a ton of "plot armor" exceptions where it doesn't work as expected. I think that he would be creating a custom system for spellbound though.

There are two more possibilities to consider:
    1. The game was in development and then they brought him on because they wanted him to be a part of it because their initial ideas were not working out, so the game now has his undeniable mark on it, but it started out something else.
    2. He was actually working with them much earlier than we knew about, but under strict NDA. He could have gotten the gift because of their already existing relationship and just used the good natured teasing as an excuse for why Fromsoft was paying attention to him.

Martin said regarding his involvement in Elden Ring, basically he just provided the high-level details to act as guidelines for the world building and fromsoft used that to develop a more narrowed and fleshed out story.
