radahn isnt a boss that rushes u with a billion attack combo...having base stamina is totally doable with him. im trying him now on rune level 1 and his attacks are only an issue when it comes to positioning and timing of rolls, his attacks never exhaust your stamina unless you are really being inefficient with stamina management aka u are spamming roll or attacks. the main diff with pre nerf was hitbox and damage..which in that case your positioning and timing had to be better.

Radahn wasn't even that much harder than other Souls bosses. Orphan of Kos and Nameless King are far, FAR more difficult and frustrating to deal with. It's just that Elden Ring became widely popular and Caelid was pretty much right next to Limgrave, so every new player immediately had access to it, which meant every casual player went into it underleveled after beating Rennala or after activating the Grand Lift of Dectus.
The fact that you can ride Torrent in his massive arena means you can gain plenty of spacing between himself and you, and the plethora of summons keeps aggro off you almost entirely. Kite him properly enough and he becomes almost no different than fighting the Dragon bosses, just go in for a couple swings and get out.
I will agree with many other people here that Radahn wasn't nerfed anyways (intentionally, at least). His hitboxes were actually scuffed and multiple videos regarding this topic actually have proven that, even this video says it too. The reduction in attack damage from him was probably a Dev that went a little too far, but they reverted it, so Radahn is fine. People just think he's easier because you don't die to mismatched hitboxes anymore.

  • @playmsbk
    @playmsbk Год назад +320

I don't think radahn is easier by the numbers anymore, he has a ton of health, poise and damage and some of the most complex attacks in the game. The only difference I've noticed is that the gravity arrows can be dodged on horseback, and maybe the speed of his p3 meteors is a little slower? There was a time when he truly was nerfed to the ground, but most people complaining about this nowadays have just gotten good at fighting him and are simply perceiving this as radahn being weaker.

Trouble with Radahn at launch is that he's the boss of a mid-game zone and he gated a ton more mid-game side content. He seemed like a Nameless King-type optional boss at the end of a side-dungeon, but he wasn't at the end; he had to be beaten to unlock a several whole zones all of which are much easier than he was, with the possible exception of Astel who comes several hours after (and Tiche, but F*** Tiche). It's as if you had to fight the nameless king to access Irithyll Dungeon, the Profaned Capital, and Archdragon Peak. Given all that I think nerfing him was the right choice even though it made a really epic fight worse. The real problem was putting Ranni's quest in, and balancing it for, the midgame; if it was going to be gated by Radahn that quest chain should have been harder and after Morgott, but that can't really be redesigned after launch.

Radahn is a mid game boss and is balanced as such.

I killed pre-nerf Radahn too, that fight had several things that ticked me off right proper.
The fight was in a huge area, against a boss on a horse, but using torrent was a quick way to the grave through many things ranging from his nigh undodgeable arrows to the fact that his AI reacts to you getting knocked off torrent by attacking you, basically always turning a 2 shot into a 1 shot (I killed him on Torrent, so I got to watch my guy try to get on his feet and Radahn always switching target to him quite a few times)
The hovering gravity rocks he summons in night phase did so much damage that it killed me in two hits, while I was wearing heavy armor and had some 30-40 vigor.
The hitboxes were wonky at best, as many have already pointed out.
He was also way harder in relation to the other bosses in the zone, while one can argue that it's lore related reasons, that never stopped fromsoft from balancing every other boss based on the zone they're in.
It didn't help that he became accessible, and directly required, to progress a quest that started in Liurnia of all places.
I will readily admit that they nerfed him too much, but he really needed a nerf of some kind.
I've killed him several times since, and he IS easier than he was at launch, at the very least the bloody meteors in the night phase aren't immediately lethal... infact I'd say they do too little damage now.
Outside of that, I'd say that one thing they could do right now to make the fight a bit more balanced is to buff his HP, I think he's too squishy.
Still probably the most awesome bossfight fromsoft has made to date.

You never know what future events you might stumble into that drastically changes the quest lines. For all you knew, you HAD to do it then and there or you could get screwed over later on. He's definitely easier now than he was pre-nerf. There's at least two major differences I can think of off the top of my head.
Originally, on the approach, you had to dodge the black hole snipe on foot with i-frames, and then mount and outrun the rain of arrows. So you had to pay careful attention to his windup so you could mount or dismount as needed (or count his attacks, IIRC it was three snipes, then rain). Now, you can easily evade both attacks from horseback.
Also, in the second phase, those meteorites he summons over his head? Those things were insanely lethal originally. When they finally attacked you, they came all at once, moved extremely fast, and killed the shit out of you if they hit. It was a blink and you die attack. A lot of strats recommended simply staying away from him entirely until he'd used them against the summons. Now, they attack in spaced out pairs, and move much slower. It's pretty easy to dodge them with a pair of rolls.

The phantom hitboxes on his swords, the halo of meteors that waited forever to chase you with literally perfect tracking that made them almost impossible to avoid and not immediately die to, and finally the Sniper accurate arrows and gravity magic were literally unbearable on launch.
He's significantly easier now. His health feels lower, his damage is definitely down, and his ability to knock you off torrent and stunlock you is much less noticeable.
His nerfs were ultimately warranted, not because of difficulty, but the amount of content he's gatekeeping. And as long as he's barring all the content of Ranni's quest, he shouldn't be reverted.
I definitely feel the changes were necessary, as the tracking and range on some of his attacks was just overbearing. Even Torrent couldn't outrun the fuckers attacks prenerf and everything was a touch of death of you hadn't hyper invested in HP.

Secondly you don’t need to do ranni’s quest line you just need to get to altus plateau via the dectus lift and pass the time at the nearest site of grace.
And some food for thought as when we get to sellen’s quest at the end of we side with her and kill jerren we get “bloody finger vanquished” meaning our good old witch hunter might have had a hidden agenda to kill radahn for the rold of blood.

The relief in defeating him was unimaginable and left me in awe with the cutscene that plays afterwards. When I heard about the patch and how nerfed Radhan was it boggled my mind because in my head I thought to myself “This is a souls game, why are they nerfing BOSSES?” Fighting Radhan with that patch just didn’t feel fun at all. It felt so underwhelming after it being so overwhelming. Kinda like your mom cooking your favorite dish then your dad trying to cook it the same way and makes it worse. It’s a somber feeling because you know some people probably won’t even have experienced Prime Radhan and won’t ever. I’m glad they gave back some of his damage but it just isn’t the same. My interpretation is that they really designed the fight for the Radahn *Festival*. The player and lots of allies swarming him and defeating him together, thus the large hitboxes of his attacks. But players actually wanted to defeat him without summoning, as hardcore purists do, which was then of course extremely hard. By nerfing Radahn to the level of a regular boss, he became way too easy if summons were used, so they reverted it.

That being said, i was not "low level" i forget where i was, but, i know i had a plus 7 or 8 bloodhound fang and, i did summon, ev er y one. All of em. I didnt sit back. I just rode the fuck in and used the fang's unique skill, again and again and again. Had enough of a health bar to actually eat some shit, and guzzel a bunch o crimson flasks. Before i knew it, he was through. Now, there is SO many variables at play, there is no way to say that "he got easy" shit, i havent fought him again. For all i know, i got super lucky. But, thats how it worked for me. For those who may feel i got away w/sumthin, rest assured, the frickin fire giant handed me my ass. Like my previous comment, he did it, again and again and again. So..i have been tested. Severely. And been found lacking. I STILL havent finished the end of that Hero graveyard thing. With the not one but frickin TWO crucible knights. Yeah...imma have to marinate on that. Anyway, interesting post/vid. Thanx!

I remember getting to pre-nerf Radahn and I had to come back to him when I was properly leveled and had moonveil +7 and I just remember feeling my heart pounding out of my chest. He’s still tough but he’s not the general I remember. Rest in peace, king.

Definitely way easier now than he used to be. Hitboxes on his attacks are still smaller, and his AI is less aggressive with stringing attacks together, more executing predictable combos at predictable times.

    • @LikeTheBirb

His damage is also less, but not as much as his hitboxes. And yeah, some differences in how his gravity spells worked and the damage they did.
They also started nerfing a bunch of weapons around the same time and in consecutive patches. Definitely a time of lowering the power level throughout the game.

Radahn pre-nerf was the most hyped I ever felt in a game when I defeated him. This was my first souls game and I finally understood what the games were about when I did that. I've come to love the struggle

*Hits cigarette* I am preparing a new character for the DLC, I'm at the Rahdan fight, but it's not the same. I used to respect this man, had to cheese him to beat him before the update, still took me a solid week to figure out I could use rotten breath.

Fromsoft games are not hard. They just have bad user interfaces, no adequate tutorials, gatekeep their "easy mode" options behind boss fights that range from out of the way to nearly impossible to find, and expect you to intuit mechanics that never look like they might make the game easier at first glance.
What makes Elden Ring easier than other souls borne games? They added a map screen, npc summons, and made the co-op slightly better than the barely usable co-op in all the older games.

  • @Radiance77
    @Radiance77 10 месяцев назад +3

Radahn is definitely easier nowadays. Elden Ring is my first Souls-like, so it’s safe to assume I had no idea what I was doing at the beginning. I was one of the players who wandered into Caelid in the early game and found myself fighting Radahn at level 30. I managed to beat him in half an hour and without summons

He's fine now. Still one shots me easily if I'm under leveled for his fight but the hit boxes feel like they match what I'm looking at.

Now this is an unpopular take, but radahns nerf is WAY overhyped. I downpatched my game a couple of days ago and went to Radahn at around level 60, beating him on my second attempt 1v1. The main reason we all remember Radahn being so difficult before the nerf was quite plainly that we were scared of him and he is very good at punishing people who play scared and don't know his moves. What makes Radahn so easy nowadays is that good positioning gives you MASSIVE openings, and that applies to pre-nerf Radahn too. Almost everybody who i watch doing their first playthrough nowadays struggles with Radahn as much as we did back in the day.
TL,DR: Us getting gud played a much bigger role in making this boss easier than the nerf

people who claim "elden ring is too hard" likely just attacked every necessary npc or tree sentinel in sight, didn't upgrade equipment, didn't level up to a decent stage when fighting, used a horrendous build, didn't use good spirit ashes or didn't upgrade spirit ashes, didn't explore and upgrade flask, never even dared to touch fextralife, and then complain and say the game has too high of a skill floor, no it just has an iq floor, for most of that is learned, but some of that is just intuitive. however, radahn was tough first fighting him even starting after the nerf, so likely it was a necessary change

Man i beat pre-nerf radahn as one of my first bosses on my first run, all I needed was level ~30, flamberge, and a whole lot of dedication. 60k runes early on made the struggle worth it, but with where he is now, 60k feels like too much of a reward for not enough of a fight

I do have one correction. Speaking to Blaiid, Iji, and Sulivis in Ranni's Rise isn't the trigger for the festival. There are multiple ways to trigger it, but getting to the Altus Plateau is one way. Doing your method would have more steps before triggering the festival as the next step for this would be going underground in East Limgrave first before going back and asking Sulivis, who then points us to Sellen.

I just started playing Elden Ring this year, and so far I had just finished Limgrave and Liurnia of the Lakes, didn't even go to the Weeping Peninsula yet. I had seen all through the game how Radahn was considered the strongest demigod in the Lands Between, so I was just starting to explore Caelid as part of Ranni's questline. I got to Radahn and I saw everyone hyping him up, I got to the arena with it being massive and being able to summon a lot of NPCs... And then I beat Radahn on my second try, and on my first try I got him on low health. I thought it was ok for a demigod fight, I liked how cinematic it was and all, but also I just went on with the game and I didn't really remember the fight at all. I kinda stopped caring for Radahn aside from the lore, so-, yeah, it definitely hurt the game. I don't get why the developers nerfed him considering it's literally an open world game, if people wanted so badly to fight him they'd do it when they are ready, it's not even an obligatory fight, just let him be stronger, because even then he isn't even near late game bosses. I know Radahn is a husk of his former self, but at least make it believable that he was able to fight Malenia, don't you think???

On launch you would have to summon almost every available instance of every npc to get them to beat the boss for you, and sometimes even if you did that, Radahn would still win. Now you only have to summon like half of them.

Yup, I recall being frustrated enough to skip and only came back much later in the game when I was much stronger but mostly because I really wanted that mimic tear and explore the other underground areas. I think at that point game was patched cause he went down way too easy IMO, which disappointed me.

Radahn at the time you fight him is basically on the hospice, has lost all battle sense and turned into a cannibalistic beast, has to basically fight an army if you decide to summon, beat malenia and forced her to use her insta-win nuke on him, IS HOLDING BACK THE FUCKING STARS, and if that wasnt enough he gets nerfed by the game itself.

As someone who never fought pre-nerf Radahan but did fight and defeat him after they adjusted the nerf, I felt like the fight was difficult enough for someone who hadn't played a Souls game before (much less using keyboard and mouse). Heck, it wasn't until after I'd already beaten the whole game 4+ times that I felt confident enough to seriously take him on without using any summons. That launch Radahan must have been insane, unfairly so (even by Elden Ring standards).
