I can't believe you people are more hyped for their reaction to the trailer than to hear out their background, inspiration, and how the made John Wick.
I came to a video titled "john wick directors react to their honest trailers," so that's what I want to see. If they made a video titled "john wick directors discuss their inspiration for the movie," then I will be hyped for it.
someone I know pointed this out: In one scene, Wick was putting in work with an AR-15. I decided I was going to count his rounds. He fired 26 rounds in about five seconds and I told my buddy, "He's got four rounds left." Another guy rounded the corner and Wick pumped four rounds into him, then discarded his empty rifle and conducted a beautiful transition to his sidearm. I'm declaring it now: best action film ever. That's going above and beyond for accurate depictions of firearms in film, as opposed to films where they use the same firearm without ever reloading.
That just goes to show such incredible involvement from the directors. Modern productions have SO many levels of processing to the raw shot, and it requires people enforcing consistency all the way from screenwriting to the final edit. So many kudos.
Recently I learned that these guys directed a lot of the action scenes in Winter Soldier. This makes so much sense because Winter Soldier was the first movie that made me believe that Captain America could actually kick ass. These two dudes have an amazing eye for action scenes!
These dudes are absolutely terrific, they understand what action is about. The fact that it's an extention of the story not a different aspect of the film. I mean they cite great refrences to french filmaking, asian filmakers like John Woo, 70's Martial Arts movies, and neo-noir korean movies. With refrences like these how could they go wrong. I'm an absolute fan of theirs and an absolute fan of John Wick.
After 1st John wick I was absolute sure they did understand it, but now I've seen 2nd chapter... I'm sad and disappointed. They took it all and Peter Jacksoned it.
The fact that they had a quick, actually believable response to that coin question, and continued to talk about how it works, that blows my mind. Not a lot of people worry about these kind of details, and backstories in today's movies. As a guy who is obsessed with movies, bravo! This kind of passion, and thinking through the elements of the movie, this is what makes actual art.
truly, a lot of people love the John Wick movies just as action movies and while they are absolutely amazing as that i also love and admire the world-building aspect of it especially because you can tell these guys put so much thought into it and truly did think about every detail but only actually put hints in the movie here and there and then expand on it in the sequels, i honestly look up to these guys as world-builders as much as I do stunt directors
When I first saw the movie I though to myself "Wow, what a great action film adaptation! The source material must be so rich. This level of world building in a movie almost always comes from the comic book series or novel it is based on". But holy shit cows! These guys blew the roof off, they did the complete opposite in such a fantastic way!
I really want to buy into this but they already demonstrated that the currency does have intrinsic value. If it was truly about just proving you are in the know-how then he would have only had to give the one coin to the cleaner, instead, he paid a single coin per corpse.
@@henryofskalitz5212 I think it's more like a tip. It's not that each body "costs" a coin; I think the guy would have taken one coin, but he came with a whole crew, on short notice and for a guy who was out of the business, so I think the presence and quantity of coins is more a social statement of esteem than an actual price tag. "John Wick just gave me 5 coins for this" is a thing that he can say now. The coins are gold and have value, but they also get a lot of stuff for free or broadly "included" with other services for 1 coin. I think the general idea is that it's kind of like money in that it holds some value to cover various expenses, but the far more important currency in that underworld is the acceptance and appreciation of the other professionals around you, which is the real value of a single (or multiple) coins.
@@Katya_Lastochka dude for some reason somewhere down the line people forgot movies were for fun. Thats why it really is refreshing to hear these directors say things like that.
It's like Hollywood forgot that not everything had to be deep and gritty. I find myself watching more b 80's action movies now a days then any big budget extravaganza. I like a movie you can just shutoff your mind and enjoy. I know I'm not alone in this.
These guys put so much into their craft, but they are so willing to accept genuine criticism and jokey nitpicks. It's like Sam Raimi's philosophy where it's just like "Entertain the audience. You've failed if you dont at least do that."
I think it also got to do with how they were inspired from a lot of eastern action films like crouching tiger hidden dragon. It's not about making sense but more on making the actions look cool.
The directors were very honest, as opposed to a what a lot of other directors would do: they'd be trying to maintain appearances and get too defensive. Honest answers to the "honest trailers" makers, I liked it.
Okay so the one issue I had was the gold coins not being consistent but I love his reasoning that they're more like business cards. It's so much cooler.
It doesn't have to be consistent. It's like debit cards. The value of the card itself is insignificant, it's the amount the bank stores. Here, you earn coins for the jobs you do so you can spend them on the Continental and it's associations. The coins are clean circulation of the dirty money that's being moved from hidden bank account to hidden bank account. You can lose a continental coin, but you will never lose the money behind it.
This movie just generates positivity. The crew loves making it. The fans love watching it. Never seen anyone say they disliked John Wick 1 or 2. Please make a third.
Hey Screenjunkies, I wanted to clarify that one point about Keanu holding the gun weird and doing that "press" move. It's an actual tactical thing called CAR(Center Axis Relock). It's designed to keep the gun close and under control in tight maneuvering spaces. it's pretty sweet, give it a google.
Saurutobi Glad you mentioned CAR! Some people in the audience were saying how he held the gun like a gangster.... I'm sure Mr. Castle would be pissed if he heard that
That's the one thing in action movies I wish would be portrayed correctly for once. I shoot guns often. They are insanely loud, even the ones that shoot tiny bullets.

John Wick and John Wick chapter 2 are honestly the best action movies of the past years. And when you like a movie alot you can relate way more with the jokes presented in the Honest Trailer. John Wick's honest trailer was hilarious!
Daan Amelink I prefer Kingsman. I mean, not only amazing choreography and cinematography, but I believe it has a much better story with great elements of parody. Similar to John Wick in many ways, but I prefer it.
31:24 why can i honestly imagine John's wife asking how he has such steady hands while filming on his phone, and him just standing there feet apart, legs bent, holding his phone in centre-axis relock 😂

Nice improvement on the pauses. Although it'd be cool if you could go back to the old way of always keeping a shot on the people reacting to the trailer. We already saw the Honest Trailer, we don't need to see it fully blown up. Would rather see facial reactions.
yes the way he grips the pistol is real. Not widely taught, but it applies for close quarters situations specifically in home defense....Paul Castle's CAR (Center Axis Relock) System
don't listen to all these casuals, I LOVED the conversation, I wish this video was LONGER, I love John Wick, I love these directors and their insight, and I love u guys, so just keep that shit coming
You know that word as an insult has been around longer than Dark Souls. A lot of hardcore gamers have used it for a long time but hardcore gamers were far and few between back then.
Tips for next vid like this; Don't have the trailer be full screen, I want to see the director's reaction And let them have the pause button, so they can interject when they want to :)
I love that the only way to explain john wick to people is "they killed his dog so he kills them all". But its extremely clear that when john lost his wife he was barely holding on to his will to live, so when they kill the last remaining thing in his life that he cared about - the dog that his wife specifically got him so that he would have at least one emotional connection left in this world and one thing that would depend on him - he is now in a state of mind where he doesn't care about his own life anymore, and hes tired of the things he loves being taken from him and being powerless. By killing the person responsible, and taking back his car (even if its worthless and completely trashed) he is able to regain the feeling of being in control of his life.
FYI - you're missing a great interview with two talented artists about how they developed the franchise, how action movies work behind-the-scenes, and some great insight into how the John Wick movies were made. Some people came here, I'm sure, to see what they had to say. You're welcome. - @murrelldan
One of the best parts of the film is how nonchalant it was when he kills the guy he's been going after the whole film. Kind spits in the face of action movies. It's great
collin corbean yeah! I was like "Now there'd be some chitchatting, the guy would try to run and john would kill him out of nowhere" but yeah that was baam!
And thats why its such a great movie: made by people who love their craft, like working with each other and know what they want, never reaching for more than their vision because theres no studio pressure to be "bigger". I LOVE how they turned all their limitations into strengths of the movie. True artists devoted to their art.
Chad is really attractive for his age, and the fact that he is one of the best stuntmen in Hollywood and is trained in martial arts and weapons makes him even more attractive. Its weird because he's twice my age but whatever honestly.
These guys seem so down to earth. They made a movie they wanted to see and they made a sequel that they felt was right. And I love the John Wick franchise
Ryan Irwin- Diehl then please leave DCEU . MOS barely does well in the theaters and somehow he landed BVS. BVS was also met with lots of criticism yet he managed to become the director of Justice League. Either he is in denial or he just doesn't understand criticism.
Holding the gun like John Wick does is a real thing. It is called Center Axis Relock. The same shooting technique can be seen in the video game Splinter Cell Blacklist.
They meant the way Wick flicks his pistol sometimes while he was assuming the Central Axis Relock. The directors said they want it to feel kinetic so it was a design decision to make him sometimes flick his pistol sideways like that.
@@thegrayyernaut The directors may have chosen it, but it's an actual tactical technique that allows you to center your firearm faster, this increasing your accuracy and kills per round. Look up Taran Tactical on RUclips to see it in action.
I think it is fun to hear like "big" people talk about how much they watch or are fans of RUclips channels it makes me so happy that RUclips is getting some of the well deserved attention
How JW2 is making less money than Shades of Grey 2 is beyond me. Two, truly passionate people about their world and their fans and their actors, not just looking to make a quick nickel. It's a real shame it isn't getting more recognition.
Yeah it suck but look at it this way. John Wick 2 made more that double what the first one did. And Fifty Shades Darker only made a little more than half of what the first one did
I call them "man fight"s when they fight like that at the end, because for some reason men always feel the need to drop their weapons and fist fight. I honestly don't mind them, especially if they're done well, I just always found it amusing that at the end of films they were like 'we must let fists decide this!' So I'd sit back in my seat and think to myself, 'man fight time!'
I feel like if they tried to make a movie around the "Impossible task" it would be underwhelming. It's better if we don't know what the "impossible task" involved, because nothing could possibly exceed the expectations that comes from someone accomplishing something that is supposedly "impossible".
@@haris9649 No you didn't understand him. The impossible task was the entire building blocks of the second movie, the expansion of the John Wick Universe and the set up of the 3rd movie. No we did not visually see the impossible task but we do know what it was, who helped him with it and the consequences that John went through because of it. My point still stands.
John Reedy You still don’t get it. The impossible task he meant was the one Vigo said. He said that he did an impossible task that no man can do and finished it. The op says that it would be less interesting if we know the impossible task. So there need not be a movie on it.Get it right!!!
This is some amazing insight into this movie. These guys have so much ground work laid out, that's why this world feels well rounded. Can't wait for more!
One issue I have is the directors didnt know that Keanu's pistol techniques are not just to look good and is indeed a real tactical system for gun fighting.
22:20 tilting the gun sideways was not only for showing him badass or aggressive . It is a habit of checking "gun safety state" usually soldiers have . I'm sure tactical team taught this to keanu in his training session .
you guys have mostly called the directors/writers of movies that had more positive honest trailers. are you ever going to get directors of a movie you properly roasted???
they had one for Thor...that one wasn't the most positive trailer, and what make you think they haven't called them? Writers/directors probably don't want to be on something calling them out on how bad a movie is...
Fuck yes, Speed Racer. What a damn good movie it was. The only reason it bombed was that it was 100% marketed to kids, even though the story was literally industrial espionage.
smokebomb.exe execs are very stupid. its a live action anime movie. by reasoning it should've been aimed at teens & older. just because its colorful doesn't its for kids..
Exactly! Look at what Pixar is doing... they literally have toys as main characters and adults absolutely love their movies! I'm never ashamed to tell people Speed Racer is one of my favorite movies of all time
smokebomb.exe I love Pixar, especially The Incredibles, Toy Story, & Monsters INC. I agree with with what you said. Sometimes execs don't understand a the tone of certain films. Just look at how it took Deadpool to get made. The reason it took so long is the studio execs didn't think people would go see a rated r superhero film when they already had exampled like Watchmen & Kickass.
John Wick is the only thing going for Hollywood right now. It's 2 for 2 in my book, and as pumped as I was at the end of part 2; the third movie will be the best yet.
Thank you! I just said something like this in a response to another comment here: I think it would be better if they let them just react to the whole thing playing out with no real commentary or interrupting FIRST, then play it back and do what they did here. That way they don't miss 80% of the jokes or continuity which is also ruined a few times with the interruptions. RUclips Reactors know not to talk throughout what they are reacting to, otherwise that content gets missed and isn't as genuine or honest
These guys are so humble of how great the movie was, they even went to "Honest Trailer" their own creation. This is my favorite episode of Honest Reaction so far. By the way, they didn't talk about that John Wick killed dude's in a bar with a FUCKING PENCIL!
I can't believe you people are more hyped for their reaction to the trailer than to hear out their background, inspiration, and how the made John Wick.

yes the way he grips the pistol is real. Not widely taught, but it applies for close quarters situations specifically in home defense....Paul Castle's CAR (Center Axis Relock) System
Mr. X. There is alot of great CQB moves preformed in John Wick
Keanu Reeves might be the only actor where they could do a prequel "20 years earlier" and still just use him.
Well matrix 2 came out 2022 so yeah and we are in 2023
a lot of knowledge in this one interview HOLY SHIT!
don't listen to all these casuals, I LOVED the conversation, I wish this video was LONGER, I love John Wick, I love these directors and their insight, and I love u guys, so just keep that shit coming
Jacob Smith +++
Jacob Smith yes!!
Casuals? They aren't reacting to Dark Souls
You know that word as an insult has been around longer than Dark Souls. A lot of hardcore gamers have used it for a long time but hardcore gamers were far and few between back then.
I love it when directors/actors come in and have fun with Honest Trailers
4 min trailer,40 min discusion of trailer...I was sceptical at first but this was really fun to watch.
I didnt even realize that this was a 40 min video, was so smooth and nice to watch
Tips for next vid like this;
Don't have the trailer be full screen, I want to see the director's reaction
And let them have the pause button, so they can interject when they want to :)
The reaction start at 9:50 if you care.
Assassins Mentality thanks bro
Honest Trailers found out about the search algorithm.
thanks!
Urnotgunnadoshit ???
not every hero wears a cape
"This must have TAKEN them a while" 😂
these 2 guys are cool as hell
i wouldn't mind seeing a John Wick prequel
Aaron Johnson the continental is planned I believe.
Please no... I want to keep the mystery of boogeyman
Read the comics it's shows how he joinded the continental
Aaron Johnson well we are now gonna get one called Ballerina
It just has to be 'The Impossible Job' that he had to do to get out...
These guys need to make a Hotline Miami movie.
It would definitely be the first great videogame adaptation.
Dominic Sheehy It would also be depressing as fuck.
There is one film called "Drive" directed by Nicolas Winding Refn which inspire alot of things for Hotline Miami
+Big Cock'n'Balls, Scott pilgrim is a comic book adaptation
Please.
That'd be perfect!
9:50 is when the actual shit you came here to see starts, you're fucking welcome
Gabriel Idalgo You're damn right. We fucking thank you.
Jesus...
Gabriel Idalgo fuck you, loser
FYI - you're missing a great interview with two talented artists about how they developed the franchise, how action movies work behind-the-scenes, and some great insight into how the John Wick movies were made. Some people came here, I'm sure, to see what they had to say. You're welcome. - @murrelldan
stop reading the comments dan!
DILFs are a thing...
Agreed wholeheartedly
Agree. He's attractive, hot, masculine, but he's also twice my age.
These Director dudes are so chill.
This guys should definitely do a Honest Trailer of The Raid.
I support that!
Mauricio_Ibieta **indonesia raya intensifies**
I'd love to see Zack Snyder's reaction to 'BvS honest trailer'
Salah Al-Bloushi halfway through the trailer I made it for the fans.
Salah Al-Bloushi tbh the basement Batman fight scene was the best fight scene from all Batman movies
That would be brutal
Salah Al-Bloushi he would get mad hes kinda a dick
Let's face it he'd cry
These guys seem so down to earth. They made a movie they wanted to see and they made a sequel that they felt was right. And I love the John Wick franchise
Please bring Chad Stahelski back for John Wick: Chapter 2 - Honest Trailer, and it would be great if you can bring Keanu Reeves.
Thanks so much. These director interviews are really showing the behind the scenes of the movie.
Great work guys!
Reaction starts at 9:45
You are a true hero. Ty
Taylor Smith Thanks buddy!
A true hero?? He just made you miss an awesome interview!
I can go back to the interview, I wished to see the reaction first.
Britt Dallyn hello.
Really wish Zack Snyder would react to BvS honest trailer. Hahaha it would be funny, but probably wouldn't happen.
Amirol_XI he would be fine with it and laugh
Jacob McMillan would be funny because of how bad the movie was
Though I like MCU their writers and Directors get so triggered if someone doesn't like their movies or they nit-pick their films
Well the Russo brothers literally did one of this Honest Trailer react.
Ryan Irwin- Diehl then please leave DCEU . MOS barely does well in the theaters and somehow he landed BVS. BVS was also met with lots of criticism yet he managed to become the director of Justice League. Either he is in denial or he just doesn't understand criticism.
I keep waiting for a John Wick: Chapter II honest trailer before number three out. But nothing .... =(
A lot more insight than I expected. More of these please.
Those directors are really cool and chill.
That moment when you beat the notification squad!
btw reaction starts at 9:50
Batmax true
you know it is
Batmax don't skip.
Nexus258 Because their conversation is actually pretty interesting.
THANK YOU!
Holding the gun like John Wick does is a real thing. It is called Center Axis Relock. The same shooting technique can be seen in the video game Splinter Cell Blacklist.
100% nailed it
The 'sideways-pistol thing' is called Central Axis Relock
They meant the way Wick flicks his pistol sometimes while he was assuming the Central Axis Relock.
The directors said they want it to feel kinetic so it was a design decision to make him sometimes flick his pistol sideways like that.
@@thegrayyernaut The directors may have chosen it, but it's an actual tactical technique that allows you to center your firearm faster, this increasing your accuracy and kills per round. Look up Taran Tactical on RUclips to see it in action.
@@scottwpilgrim Thanks. I did. It looks pretty cool in real life, too.
This was soo much fun listening to! Thanks guys for getting film people talking straight about their craft with humour and, well, honesty!!!
David Ayer reacts to Suicide Squad honest trailer I Dare You!
A Warner Exec would have a red dot on is forehead the entire time.
TheVideoInvader True that.
Hans Wurst I like the way u think
I think it is fun to hear like "big" people talk about how much they watch or are fans of RUclips channels it makes me so happy that RUclips is getting some of the well deserved attention
Pfft, I bet even the Queen uses RUclips
These kinds of videos are awesome. Love getting into the heads of directors whenever possible.
When you get guys like this... fuck it's so satisfying to listen to people talking about their area of expertise. They were nothing short of awesome!
Man those two guys are awesome.
would've been awesome to have keanu there
thy did an interview with him ( a small one tho)
Provocateur
Keanu leaves. What does that mean?
Provocateur
Or as the Japanese would say... Keanu Reeves.
Fellow Slovak here 😱
Keanu Valen lol your name is keanu
How JW2 is making less money than Shades of Grey 2 is beyond me. Two, truly passionate people about their world and their fans and their actors, not just looking to make a quick nickel. It's a real shame it isn't getting more recognition.
Fearl yeah it hurts
sex sells more than talent
Fearl sex sells better sadly...
Just like hoes and prosties ... sex is much more important to them than the actual character and talent ..
Yeah it suck but look at it this way. John Wick 2 made more that double what the first one did. And Fifty Shades Darker only made a little more than half of what the first one did
Yes I love these! John Wick is one of the best action movies ever made and the sequel is no different. Please keep doing these with other filmmakers
Can't wait for John Wick Chapter 19: Jimmy the Cop
I feel like if they tried to make a movie around the "Impossible task" it would be underwhelming. It's better if we don't know what the "impossible task" involved, because nothing could possibly exceed the expectations that comes from someone accomplishing something that is supposedly "impossible".
Oh how so wrong you turned out to be.
John Reedy a When did John wick even do the impossible task? Did you not understand him?
I think it's great that they were able to laugh at the stuff they knowingly put in that was cliched.
you guys should replace the generic poster behind the directors with the poster of the movie you are talking about.
One issue I have is the directors didnt know that Keanu's pistol techniques are not just to look good and is indeed a real tactical system for gun fighting.
Yeah, Center Axis Relock. It's been driving me nuts that they don't know that/didn't say it.
@mother earth have you not seen the video of him training for john wick 2
How is that an issue??? I don't see the issue...
22:20 tilting the gun sideways was not only for showing him badass or aggressive . It is a habit of checking "gun safety state" usually soldiers have . I'm sure tactical team taught this to keanu in his training session .
you guys have mostly called the directors/writers of movies that had more positive honest trailers. are you ever going to get directors of a movie you properly roasted???
that would be awkward as hell.
To be fair, their very first HT reaction was with Thor. They may not have fully roasted it, but it wasn't a really positive HT either.
Oon-Hui Ng well being salty is real. it's not that common to find someone who can laugh at themselves getting roasted hard
they had one for Thor...that one wasn't the most positive trailer, and what make you think they haven't called them? Writers/directors probably don't want to be on something calling them out on how bad a movie is...
You really think a director would be willing to do that? lol.
when marvel does a Black widow movie have these guys direct it!
YES!
Please don't.
Don't give me hope.
Please don't.
Don't give that hope.
Hoshang Raj they made a black widow movie
39 minutes... *GRABS POPCORN*
exactly
Ken Edwards more like turns video off
This is BY FAR my favorite Honest Reactions video. You get such amazing insights to the making of the movie.
Assassin Uber, Shia LaBeouf is his driver for about 3 minutes.
Constantine reunion!
I love when they get the director on the studio. I like seeing their faces when they notice the flows. Priceless :D
Any video with Spencer gets a like from me.
Julia Silva thirsty much?
Go back to tumbler you weeb
for real this dude is funny
Same
I just came back from seeing Chapter 2....I love that bladed stab weapon the deaf girl uses toward the end of the movie!
These creative guys are so damn underrated. These two movies have pretty much saved action movies for me.
These guys were so fun! One of my favorite episodes of this show.
John Wick vs Jason Bourne vs Jack Reacher vs Robert McCall (Denzell's Equalizer)
Who wins?
rambo
NoJusticeNoPeace John Wick has a higher chance of winning because of his skills with the gun, the guy literally has Aimbot level skills lmao.
NoJusticeNoPeace That should be a Movie Fights question
The audience
NoJusticeNoPeace wick
The reason it took so long is the studio execs didn't think people would go see a rated r superhero film when they already had exampled like Watchmen & Kickass.
wow really cool interview! was expecting a reaction vid and got a lesson on shooting action instead!
John Wick is the only thing going for Hollywood right now. It's 2 for 2 in my book, and as pumped as I was at the end of part 2; the third movie will be the best yet.
I thought it was pretty good, probably my second favorite. What about you?
RIP Michael Nyqvist :-(
Did you make Hal Rudnick stand outside the building the entire time?
I love this I hope more directors to this
I wish everyone wouldn't try and talk over each other. Sometimes even when the trailer is playing. Listen to this for example 28:45
Thank you! I just said something like this in a response to another comment here:
I think it would be better if they let them just react to the whole thing playing out with no real commentary or interrupting FIRST, then play it back and do what they did here. That way they don't miss 80% of the jokes or continuity which is also ruined a few times with the interruptions. RUclips Reactors know not to talk throughout what they are reacting to, otherwise that content gets missed and isn't as genuine or honest
THANK YOU! I got super annoyed by this too.
I think they should give the directors the pause button!
These guys are so humble of how great the movie was, they even went to "Honest Trailer" their own creation. This is my favorite episode of Honest Reaction so far. By the way, they didn't talk about that John Wick killed dude's in a bar with a FUCKING PENCIL!
