In This video I compare between the very first Nokia PureView flagship, the Nokia 808 PureView, and its latest effort carrying the same iconic naming, the Nokia X30 5G. The Nokia 808 PureView was released over 10 years ago and has a 41 megapixel camera, while the latest Nokia X30 has a 50 megapixel main sensor and specializes in low light photography. Was expecting an easy win for the X30...

I mean why don't Symbian Belle just use Meego UI as its UI instead, right?
Symbian kernel itself isn't the problem, it's also the insistence of using ARM11 ever since Nokia N8 that made its downfall.
Nokia N900 was a pretty good concept device, had they enlarge its coverage and fix some of its cons, it'll be the next communicator for all. TI OMAP 3 for all by 2009-2010, even for Symbian will be a gamer changer back then.
      Unfortunately, they don't.
No, Symbian is laggy even @ Nokia E6 Symbian Belle.

Been a Nokia fan from day one and still is I'm not surprised the 808 Pureview is keeping up on the modern budget and midrange smartphones hack it's natural capture is phenomenal over the 10 years not much has changed don't get the wrong idea today's smartphones is really good adding new features and stuff but if you ask a normal consumer they'll say literally nothing has changed besides the look and feel of the phone and a bit performance but maybe it's just me but really tho just look what the 808 Pureview do you really wouldn't say it's a 10 year old phone without looking at it

The natural bokeh on the 808 is still impressive even in todays standard. The dynamic range is a little bit limited but at least it is natural looking. Makes me wonder how much that same 808 sensor can benefit the modern image algorithm and computational photography. It would blow competition away for sure.

  • @WinstoneSmith
    @WinstoneSmith Год назад +2

Colors and white balance so delightfully natural! Grass that is green instead of black. White surfaces white, not yellow. And faces where sharpening won't make you look a piece of cartoon (every speckle magnified as well). Adding some saturation, warm tones and sharpening, and It'll look better, sure, but current trends are way overboard imho. Its something you don't really notice, how false, unreal, even absurd it is until you have a Nokia 808 to compare with. And that's what's really worrying: there's very little variety in this regard, no matter how congested and supposedly diverse the market is.

I relented and contacted Nokia about the issues I was having with my X30. I'm glad I did. They sent me a replacement that worked fully. No stiff buttons, fully working software especially with streaming, finger print sensor software fully working and the speaker isn't as bad as the first unit. It's a far far better experience. I've really enjoyed taking pictures on hikes and runs. Works perfectly with my polar watch. I must have got a Friday afternoon unit first time around. For the money I think the camera is absolutely fantastic. I've had nothing but good results. My only gripe is the lack of 4k. Great comparison and video 🙂

@@rrageneral1499 it depends what you put value in. I personally think it's not the end of the world about the 4k but obviously would have been preferred. The value in a Nokia phone is in the whole offering from security updates, os updates, warranty, actual online live support chat, Android one and a ever expansive eco system of devices from earbuds to laptops, tablets ect ect. Unfortunately with most Chinese budget or midrange brands, they don't have the best record with security or os updates. And some offer little to no support. And the only warranty you get is your statutory right which is dependent on a 3rd party retailer if not bought direct. And I can say this with first hand confidence as oppo is terrible like this. As I explained above, Nokia had my phone replaced in less them 48hrs. It's about much more then raw specs.

I've had the Nokia X30 for a week, I'm really enjoying it, it feels premium in my hands and that's very positive, I confess that without the Zeiss logo it makes me a little strange because I have the Nokia 8.3 and the XR20, in general it was a good evolution of HMD and this shows that if it focuses on a few devices it can deliver something premium, logically for anyone who is a fan of the Nokia brand, they always expect something more or something surprising and different, but in general I am enjoying the Nokia X30 a lot now all that remains is to launch a top premium device and urgently improve logistics for faster distribution in the markets.

They don't only apply to Nokia devices, but they really make us think about how certain aspects of our phones have changed over time. They also make us question what is a real advancement and what is just marketing. Sometimes I wonder if I could take equally good photos with my lgv30 from 2017 vs my Nokia 8.3 ... When it comes to the label "pureview" with Nokia, i rathe associate revolutionary features; not necessarily successful ones though. While yes - originally (i think) it was merely the technology of pixel-binning .. those phones with the label pureview were special, from the rest of the "common" phones.
The 808 is basically a camera with a phone - much like the Galaxy Camera (both came out in 2012) - and both are kind of a flop, treasured only by a handful of people.
The next Pureview may have been the Lumia 1020? .. similar to the 808 - kind of a camera with a phone, but a more solid phone with flagship specs ... at least when compared to the Lumia line (it was - after all, the release of the iPhone 5 as well as the Note 3 etc. )
The last (in my opinion) Pureview phone was the Nokia 9 - with its penta-camera setup. Did it fulfil expectations? no .. i think not. The idea was great .. but the technology was not. Todays phones capture more light in a single larger sensor than the Nokia 9 does with its 5 sensors. (also Nokia refused to update it .. )
I cannot really consider any of the X or G line phones a "Pureview" model. They are - mundane. Not at all revolutionary.
When it comes to Pureview, i would much rather give that label to the Sony Xperia pro-1 with its 1" large photosensor .. or even the Xiaomi 12 (although none of those domestic Chinese brands have shone brightly in terms of Photoquality .. rather only with high end stats)
As for a true Nokia Pureview - i would expect something extra ordinary .. then again .. none of them have been financial successes (except maybe the 1020) - so i doubt that Nokia is keen on developing and releasing a real Pureview again.

If you know how to use it N808 is still the best. Images looks like taken with analog camera. I can not find better quality. There is no HDR but who needs HDR? But there are sharpness, saturation, and contrast sliders so you can create, control almost any kind of situation. 8mp images looks better than any today's flagship. Yes it has some limitations but I never missed any action.Dedicated camera button, xenon flash that freeze any action. Square sensor that records FHD video horizontaly independent of how you hold the camera. Mechanical shutter,ND filter.who needs more. Mine is stile close to me. I switched to Lumia 950XL great Raw's but horrible jpgs, far behind of N808. Then Huawei p30pro-huge disappointment. Shutter lag in pro mode etc. Absolutely useless for action, ugly artificial overprocessd images. Now S23U. Expert RAW is kind of joke.Samsung and other companies treats customers like stupid, blind as...les.Sometime cheap phones takes better images than so called flagships. Still Nokia, Xiaomi. Probably the only choice for photography is Sony 1V but I don't like screen proportions.
Did I mentioned about video of Nokia 808? I saw few videos a week ago.Looks like taken with pro camera. Detail on shadows and light. Beautiful grain.
My settings EV -0.3, contrast and saturation -1 if I remember and max sharpness because it looks fine. No stairs or artifacts. Just great . I omitted Lumia1020 because of physically smaller sensor oversaturated images and smaller than N808 preview file 8mp of N808 vs 5 of 1020. Same with video quality. With extended image control you can get even cinematic like flat profile with contrast, saturation and sharpness menu.
