950XL is most versatile. 20 megapixels is the sweet spot, the best dynamic range, crazy sharp corner to corner, no distortion, it is faster than the 1020 and 808, closest focus is insane, and the OIS is better than the ones before. Cheapest of the bunch and best buy in 2021. But the 1020 is just gadgetporn.... And if you have time and daylight, the 40 MP can deliver asthonishing detail (almost on par with my D850!). The most beautiful phone ever made with the second-best camera. Be careful when buying a 1020, the autofocus can be dead and it is sensitive to screen burn in. 808 is overrated. It has a previous gen sensor, lots of distortion and vignetting, obnoxious dynamic range, horrible speed and lousy software, bad tiny screen. Combined with the second hand price of the 808, you should skip it. Not worth 200 bucks. 930 in all black is also stellar looking, it's the best ever iPhone design Apple never made. Not very Nokiaish, as I said, it is the perfection of the Johnny Ive design school. It has some nice tricks: the screen is the most gorgeous screen you will ever see on any phone and the 5.1 sound recording with high-dB capability is amazing.
the massive shutter lag in 1020 lets it down massively, otherwise i'd prefer it over the 808. the amount of detail the 808 captures is insane and is a joy to edit in snapseed - often when you think the sky is blown out, you can easily bring it back.
Agreed. The concept of the Nokia 9 is very unique but the execution isn't the best. If they were to do it with bigger camera sensors, OIS, and faster and smarter software, it would have been the best phone camera today.
Thats because the original Nokia is gone. HMD is the head of the company. I have N9PV and while the picture it takes are pretty good, it takes forever to process, and it's not something people exaggerate, it really takes like 1 - 3 minutes. Sometimes less, but forget about taking a picture and share to someone with main camera app. Video wise is not even worth mention it as is crap.
The N9PW has a really incredible Camera Hardware and a mess of Software. The Auto Mode and his jpg-result are a catastrophe. But the RAW images are amazing. Sure, the lack of sharpness in the corners are bad, but hey, its a smartphone cam with a smartphone lense. But the lack of noise(luminance and choma) results in fantastic sharp detailed photos. The huge dynamic range let you show parts of a photo for which you need on a pro DSLR 3 pictures with differend apature. I wished so mutch that HMD/Nokia made a new Phone with the Light Cam System but with a mutch better Software and faster SOC. Maybe with a special DSP for the fusion process of the light cam system. That is all correct. HAAC was first on the 808 and it was world's better than the competition. Without nokias camera innovations, smartphone cameras wouldn't be as good as they are today. It's a very good daily driver, and the raw images are fantastic indeed. It's why I use it everyday. I just wish it was a bit smarter when it comes to auto mode, especially at night, and it was quicker to capture/ process images and not very buggy.
Thank you very much for this comparison. I use my 950 (non-XL - which I recently bought used for 30€ in a really good condition and with a good battery) for special occasions beside my iPhone7 (Daily Driver). The Lumia is better at stills for gaining a bit more detail over the iPhone shots. Also the HDR is quite better. However, the iPhone is better at Panoramas and Videos. Due to the End of Support for Windows Phones this Devices have become dirt cheap. And due to the ´real´ 19Megapixels you have an Image that is on par with some of the greatest Phones, that use some kind of ´fake´ Pixels (e.g. 108MP), due Pixel-Binning. This Camera was ahead of its time and can still compete with the newest flagships (in terms of image quality).

Good video and comparison. I was looking into buying one of these phones for my collection. Also, you book collection is quite interesting. I see you have few books in Russian and books from writer Milorad Pavic, very impressive.
Enjoyed this very much. While it is not Pureview, the Nokia N8 was a predecessor of the 808Pureview and very effective at 12 MP. Unfortunately it used the outdated Symbian operating system as did the 808. I still have an N8, 808, 1020, 950, and 950XL. I recently replaced the 950XL camera as it was not focusing properly. I was a bit reluctant to try the Nokia 9 and now use an iPhone 11 Pro as my everyday phone. My wife still hangs on to the 950 and despite no real photo expertise, gets great photos. These were fantastic camera phones and it is so sad that Microsoft ultimately dropped the ball on smart phones. Thanks for the comparison and review. Your 1020 video was also excellent.
Watching this in 2024 💌 thanks for doing a recap on all the best windows camera phones. Is there any chance to buy any one of these from online? Pls let know thanks 😊✌️
I have now three 1020s. I have used them for rock concert video recordings (see my RUclips for examples, there are now over 900 videos with 1020) as 1020 can tolerate heavy bass without distortion and decrease bass level by filtering it either by 100 Hz or 200 Hz filter. My first 1020 was perfect one but I needed longer battery capacity than the about 75 minutes so I decided to buy another one. It was a second hand one with 64 GB memory but unfortunately the left channel microphone had about half of the volume than the right one. Further, at manual video mode setting the focus to infinite was a bit blurry and thus finding correct focus takes some time. So I bought a third one, again second hand, with the standard 32 GB memory. This has OK microphone balance but the infinite focus setting is a bit blurry too. I wonder if somebody knows if there are a some "secret" settings somewhere in the phone by which you could fix these.
I wonder why Nokia did not include in the settings some sort focus calibration routine. Or even better, do it automatically by recording the lens position when auto focus is used and detecting which value most likely corresponds to the infinite setting.
The 930 is the king of concerts when it comes to sound. It has 4 microphones with extreme volume recording for a 5.1 surround experience (don't upgrade to Windows 10 though!)
Great comparison/review. I fully agree with your conclusions. Nokia's cameras were legendary! There is quite simply nothing that matches that soft, yet highly detailed look that 808 outputs. Images look so natural, no digital over-sharpening like modern phones have. Effortlessly great. 950 is the most versatile and the best overall PureView though, as you concluded. 808 beats it in daylight, but 950 beats 808 in all other areas, including daylight close ups. The camera app is also so good! Gives you all the options you need in a beautifully designed UI with well thought-out controls. Probably my favorite camera app, even compared to modern phones. And also, as you noted at the end, had you used manual controls in your comparisons you could have pulled out much better results with the 950. But I understand for the sake of fairness you decided to stick with auto. It truly is unfortunate that all of that talent, work and expertise was lost. I would have LOVED an upgraded Lumia 950 running Android (same camera UI as WP though) and using even more improved Nokia/Microsoft algorithms.
I'm optimistic about the rumored 9.3PV. Light, the company behind 9PV camera system, exited the smartphone industry; so I'm curious what HMD will offer in the next Nokia PV installment.
The 950 easily beats the 11 Pro Max on low light, also the 12 Pro Max on auto, but in RAW/manual you can pull a little more detail from the 12 Pro Max, but who shoots an iPhone in manual?
Great review !!! Definitely love it !!! Would like to see them compare in astrophotography or night sky shots. When I try to take some night sky on my 9 Pureview with 10s maximum shutter speed in pro mode, most of the time the shutter close in 1/15 or faster, like maybe 1 photo out of 5 photos able to capture in 10s shutter speed. Also lag of manual focus is kinda troublesome.
Nokia was wayy ahead of its time with all this cameras. I had a 925 which in reality I hated (greenish screen, got hot all the time) and I still own a 930 that I loved. Perfect screen, perfect camera, dinamic range on the stereo microphones was over the top for loud concerts, and rich capture was the icing on a very very good cake. And zooming while recording video, still nothing comes close to this day. Well.. Talking about it kinda makes me sad!
I think the lumia 925 is the best looking lumia, even though it does have a lot of flaws. I was disappointed in the design of the 930 in pictures, but when I saw it in real life, I fell in love with it. Maybe because green is my favourite color :) it's only flaw for me was it's small battery compared to competition. I dropped it so many times but it never broke!
haha I bought it from ebay to be honest. Its not an official back but its as good as the original one. They sell them in green, orange, cyan, and grey. The phone was brought in black but the Microsoft logo started falling off.... the hardware quality on the 950XL is very disappointing.
I had both the 1020 and the 950, the 1020 I preferred the camera, but as an all round daily use phone/camera the 950 was the better package. The 1020 camera grip ruled though.
I agree with you. I can't find the camera grip for my 1020 which is a real shame! It also came with a mini tripod and I loved using it for long shutter speed light shots

To be HMD or to be Nokia, that is the question. the year is 2020 but the old Nokia phones are still better than Nokia 9 PureView of HMD. Particulary Nokia Lumia 950 XL taking very quality pictures with good colour balance
The sensor on the 950XL is much better than the small sensors on the 9, however you can get better pictures from the 9 if you edit RAW images. If the 9 had 5 bigger sensors and better software, it would have been amazing.
I still use my Lumia 950, but it is becoming difficult to use the raw image editors with windows adobe photoshop as well as the lumia photo app unable to process DNG files. Have to transfer the images via SD card to android device to use snapseed.
Nokia 9 Pure view is the best quality I like, I have already lumia 1020, but I love Nokia 9 pure view is it best deal buy to this phone right now? Plz suggest Mr. Nokia
I still have the 1020 , replaced it with the 9PV when WhatsApp was no longer supported. I find the 1020 more satisfying, definitely more user-friendly, quality remains outstanding, battery life better & the 9 is a software disaster, too many glitches, stuck video etc. I am considering switching back to the 1020. Communications will be solely through SMS, no too much of a sacrifice IMHO :)
Still what I found that Nokia has better camera phone than others it provided too much better quality camera that time when people had not proper intelligence of that😒
wide-angle and tele optical complements for 1020 : --- Hello ! Please could You help me ? I got one 808 and two 1020, so I'm a fan. Unfortunately Im not very familiar with 3rd party wide angle/telephoto lenses. I will try using the one I have to see if a standard one fits and will let you know.
@@AbdullaZaki The problem is the size of the sensor. In the Nokia 1020 the sensor is bigger than the others phones. So it works bad with add on lenses on the borders. That s th problem. I think I must find a add on lenses for compact camera....
I will be posting a full camera review of the Nokia 9 very soon. As a phone it's okay, nothing spectacular. Screen is excellent, build quality is excellent, speakers are just okay, battery life is average at best, camera is spectacular but not always.
@@AbdullaZakiThat's great. Thank you. I have read and heard so many mixed reviews about it till now. I own a Sirocco and it is damn good except the camera. That's the sole reason, I plan to get Nokia 9. But again, it will be great to hear from a Nokia fan himself

@@thehumblewarrior779 I honestly can't recommend the Nokia 9 just for the camera because of how buggy the camera software is. It requires so much patience. I would recommend waiting for the 9.3 if you can. Don't get me wrong, the 9 can capture amazing pictures. But the camera gets stuck 50% of the time. Tried resetting, clearing cache, etc etc. Nothing can get it to be 100% reliable.
Nokia was years ahead of Huwaei, Samsung, Apple etc. Today everyone wants a top notch camera phone. Why cannot Nokia return to making cutting edge camera phones???
For me the P9 was terrible 808 was great in some as was the 1020 but the 950xl sat between the 808 and 1020........ I would choose the 950xl as a good compromise for all situations but bin the P9
You missed out, they are crazy expensive now,and you can't find any brand new ones any more. I remember a couple of yours after they came out, you could have bought one for as low as $100 on eBay and they were brand new. Now used ones in decent shape go easily above $200.
I wonder why your photos from 808 look so bad, I looked at mine photos from 808 today and they look far superior than any other I did with any phone. I had 808, n900, n9, 1020, 950 lumia but only 808 made such beautiful pictures. There were some tricks to control shutter speed on 808, I was shooting one night the lightnings with 808 and I used 2.7sec which was max shutter speed for it if i remember correctly.
@@AbdullaZaki that explain a lot. I used pro settings most of the time. One of the shots I'm most proud of: mega.nz/file/k4ZUGbxJ?fbclid=IwAR0JmFY3NV1Z6kyaoFzQjrVAXgb5snbgS_iqVeE04GIfQiUfmc00VTYk33Q#IzSCwbguQcAdvGJeEas03bGiqTsHe0v2SCcJ7PKFAaU
But you would need a tripod. The 950 can almost do 1s out of your hand. And don't forget, the apperture is much bigger, and that compensates totally for the smaller sensor. Guess you did something totally wrong with the 950/1020.
@@2kBofFun don't get me wrong i was getting superb images from 1020 and kindo ok from 950 but 808 was way better. Tripod? I was a bit reluctant to try the Nokia 9 and now use an iPhone 11 Pro as my everyday phone. My wife still hangs on to the 950 and despite no real photo expertise, gets great photos. These were fantastic camera phones and it is so sad that Microsoft ultimately dropped the ball on smart phones. Thanks for the comparison and review. Your 1020 video was also excellent.
Love from India 🇮🇳❤️
Great. Im glad with my nokia 1020 and Lg G6. Nice video.
I also have an LG G6. Mainly bought it for the wide angle camera at the time :)
That 1020 flash is gg
Very nice channel 👌
Thank you
Watching this in 2024 💌 thanks for doing a recap on all the best windows camera phones. Is there any chance to buy any one of these from online? Pls let know thanks 😊✌️
The PV9 is MINDBLOWING!
how i miss playing in my old 3310 with 10 days battery life
Excelente canal, sigue adelante.
Very good. I like this video
I think that's a common problem with the lumia 1020. Infinite focus always results in a blurry image for me as well
I wonder why Nokia did not include in the settings some sort focus calibration routine. Or even better, do it automatically by recording the lens position when auto focus is used and detecting which value most likely corresponds to the infinite setting.
I haven't seen such a scheme on any phone to be honest. The infinite focus is a weird oversight.
The 930 is the king of concerts when it comes to sound. It has 4 microphones with extreme volume recording for a 5.1 surround experience (don't upgrade to Windows 10 though!)
King photography 😊
And I also have the Nokia 9 purview it rocks
There was à lot of reàon why i did preferred which i did to chosed is first pioneered smàrtphone in this planet àñd it was my fàvouràte phone☺️😊👍🏼❤️
I'm optimistic about the rumored 9.3PV. Light, the company behind 9PV camera system, exited the smartphone industry; so I'm curious what HMD will offer in the next Nokia PV installment.
Me too, but I am also ready to be disappointed haha. Hopefully they manage to deliver something good.
The photo quality on all these devices stacks up pretty good for today's standards.
The differences is only noticable in lowlight scenarios.
Glad you enjoyed it :). Haven't tried taking night sky shots on the 9 but when I do I'll update you
Cool !! Looking forward to it !!! :D
Ng Yi Xian bro how's the results of it?did it best or average
I used the Nokia Lumia 920 that was an amazing experience I Loved it could have been still working but I lost it in a car accident 😭
Good video.. Thank you
Glad you liked it
as a nokia 925 owner i really wish someone would release a open sourced OS for old windows phones.
I don't think that would happen, but it would be nice.
I think 950xl is best
Im also a Nokia fan from the original 3310. How do you rate the Nokia 8.1? I am amazed at the pictures I get, just point and click.
Many thanks
I don't have a Nokia 8.1 but happy to hear you like the image quality :)
@@AbdullaZaki I wish I could show you a picture of mine. It was battered in each and every corner, bent screen!!, never broke!

This I can show you though!
@@roadrunnermus3 outstanding audio quality! The video also holds up very nicely. Thanks for sharing
Have to know! How and where did you get that official green back for the Lumia 950XL?
haha I bought it from ebay to be honest. Its not an official back but its as good as the original one. They sell them in green, orange, cyan, and grey. The phone was brought in black but the Microsoft logo started falling off.... the hardware quality on the 950XL is very disappointing.
@@AbdullaZaki Awesome thanks 😊 It's hard to find them including the MS logo and even harder to find with wireless charging components.
I am also a Nokia fan ❤️
I rally love Nokia 1320 and where can I find it?
I still use my Lumia 950, but it is becoming difficult to use the raw image editors with windows adobe photoshop as well as the lumia photo app unable to process DNG files. Have to transfer the images via SD card to android device to use snapseed.
Never had issues with it, but ditched Photoshop as free software is every bit as good today. I use the completely free RAW Therapee now.
@@2kBofFun is this editor available in the windows 10 phone?
@@ajayd4236 No, I never edit in phone. The JPEGs are already 95% ok.
Nokia 9 Pure view is the best quality I like, I have already lumia 1020, but I love Nokia 9 pure view is it best deal buy to this phone right now? Plz suggest Mr. Nokia
Hello, can I see the original photos from the video?
Still have my nokia 1020
The 920 was my favorite phone.
Still what I found that Nokia has better camera phone than others it provided too much better quality camera that time when people had not proper intelligence of that😒
Assalamo alaikum abdullah.do u still have all this phones
w.salam, yes, they are a part of my collection :)
Nokia forever king photography 😊
What Nokia camera do you think is best for filming?
From new devices, Nokia 8.3
wide-angle and tele optical complements for 1020 : --- Hello ! Please
could You help me ? I got one 808 and two 1020, so I'm a fan. But since a
long time I'm looking for wide-angle and tele optical complements for
1020. But, like his sensor is large, it is difficult to know which one
could be ok with. Have you got informations about that Please ! Sorry
for my bad english but I'm french.
Nokia fan from India. Can you pls share your thoughts on Nokia 9 after May 20 updates ? I am planning to buy one real soon
@@AbdullaZaki one more thing, I do own Lumia 1020 and Lumia 950 also which are my favourites for clicking outdoors, but I just miss to click potraits of my kid using those. Else I am more than satisfied with both of them for all other scenarios
@@thehumblewarrior779 I'll talk in a lot more depth in the video review which I plan on making very soon :)
why your hand is shaking bro?
808 Pureview:Symbian
Lumia 1020:Windows Phone
9 Pureview:Android
Nokia was years ahead of Huwaei, Samsung, Apple etc. Today everyone wants a top notch camera phone. Why cannot Nokia return to making cutting edge camera
phones???
For me the P9 was terrible 808 was great in some as was the 1020 but the 950xl sat between the 808 and 1020........ I would choose the 950xl as a good compromise for all situations but bin the P9
I am a biggest fan of Nokia 808
I always wanted to buy but i can't due to high price
Can I get this phone now
You missed out, they are crazy expensive now,and you can't find any brand new ones any more.
I remember a couple of yours after they came out, you could have bought one for as low as $100 on eBay and they were brand new. Now used ones in decent shape go easily above $200.
You from? Turkey?
Lebanon
After 11years
I love Nokia ... But they should upgrade their processor chipset and stop using old model
Good point.

Please I need Nokia 808
i love nokia...
Every thing is ok but you have to improve your sound quality 😌
Getting better :)

Hello :)
You can get better photos with the 808 if you play around with manual settings. In this test I left things at auto
Really cool photo!
Tripod? The pic i shared on mega drive was shot from hand i layed on the cars roof, so you can say it's not stable as tripod but it managed to take this great and sharp picture. 808 is giving best shots as they are without postproduction which i hate and don't like to waste time for it :)
Nokia 950 XL is best... sad that nokia 9 failed so bad
