I am the same but recently surprised myself. I did a challenge workout called the MURPH with my gym and it included running. I actually really loved it! Functional strength training and mobility work paying off
I LOVE weight training as well! I like swimming, walking, and dancing. However, I HATE running. The longest minute I've ever experienced was while running. YUCK. I used to run and loved the runner's high after but hated every minute of the run. I will not subject myself to that torture again. I get the same dopamine hit after a long weightlifting workout.
In my 20s, I tried to make myself like running… And my doctor said that walking was more beneficial and better for my joints… So I let go of the guilt‼️ that was back in the 90s, by the way😊 , Leo, and I live for the water✨ I was a competitive swimmer when I was younger, and I go through withdrawals if I’m out of the water too long🐠
Hi Nancy, great video!! So funny to hear you mention me, thanks!! Quick update, I tried the heavy lifting last week low and behold my lower back was not happy. I had to cut back on workouts because my lower back was in pain. F this 😂 I’m with you, going back to 8-12 reps like I’ve done all my life ( about 40 yrs like yourself). Also, happy to hear it’s not till failure was wondering about that. Thank you Nancy!!😊
Hi Gabby, I’m so happy you saw that and thanks again for your comments and input!! I’m sorry to hear that you tweaked your back but delighted that you’re listening to it! Let’s just keep healthy, active and strong together!😘❤️
@@MamaTenny Hi Nancy, thanks for the response. Question if you don’t mind, orange theory is 1hr of weight lifting and cardio mixed, am I right? Do you always use the same weights (lbs) to lift ? How often do you go to OT, you have probably mentioned before but I don’t remember 🤪 That was 3 questions oops 😬😂Thank you 😊
Hi Gabby, I go to OT 5 days a week, M-F and it’s always broken up into cardio and strength. On the treadmill it could be endurance or speed bursts or inclines. Then there’s the rower which is used mixed in. On the weight floor, they encourage you to use heavier weights and to push yourself. Different weights for different exercises. It’s a different workout everyday, I think that’s why I like it so much. Watch my older “Am I too old for OT” video, it really shows it all. And my Will is in it with me!🥰
I love your determination and drive. If I had all the workout equipment in my home like you do I would never go to a gym. Maybe Orange Theory gives you more motivation and socialization ? I love swimming but unfortunately it's seasonal here. You did great in the pool !
I do love the group dynamic at OT but am very happy to do my own thing at home as well. Love the Peloton too! Maybe it’s the variety I like 🤷🏼♀️ As long as we keep moving, stay active and engaged, we’re on the right track. Always appreciate your comments, thank you ❤
Your swimming is pretty good for someone who never does it! I do recommend lessons. I love swimming, I took a couple semesters at community college to work on my form. From what I could see you might want to add a few leisurely laps for a warm up, start with just some kicks and then add in your arms on your back. Also on your backstroke try to rotate your torso from side to side as you pull water to prevent injury. These are tips I learned from my coach. Great job! Doing things that scare us or that we don't like is super important for growth. We don't grow in our comfort zone right? 💚💚💚
Do you swim regularly Lynda? I better get into it. 20 years ago all my friends joked about the aqua fit classes, now I admire them for exercising into their 80’s and beyond!
Never understood why normal people lift heavy weight which they can move barely 3 times or even less. Isn't worth the risk of injury unless you're a powerlifter imo. If you wanna be really strong that's what you gotta do and if your injure a tendon you gotta rehab it for three months or so. But I'm just a hobbyist, the risk of injury isn't worth the benefit for me when I could just lift in a higher rep range around 8-12 reps and have good enough results.
Running for me is an absolute hell no. I am an outside walker. I love the water and love swimming but don’t have access to a pool. Not into heavy lifting basically because my arthritis won’t allow it but I do a manageable amount of weights. The best exercise is the one we will actually do. Great video. Happy Sunday.
First off Nancy that bathing suit is stunning on you. I think you could be a horrible swimmer but if you’re wearing that no one will notice😂! Funny I am a Sagittarius and despise the water too!
