  • I have always been very proactive about my health. Beginning as a very young woman, I prioritized exercise, a healthy diet, and overall fitness as mainstays of my daily life. But what can happen if you think you're doing all the right things for your body, but you may be doing something horribly wrong? What if your best intentions lead to a health crisis beyond your wildest comprehension?
In today's video, I tell you what happened to me 23 years ago and how I learned a lesson that I'll never forget. You may see yourself in a similar situation, so beware!
    Thanks for watching :)

I thought this happened to Mama Tenny recently. In her "what i eat in a day" video, she took like a whole pharmacy of supplements. I was so concerned. Taking supplements for nearly everything is a huge business and trend. It's such a great video about this topic.

Having worked in ER for over three decades as an RN, I have witnessed the results of miss managed supplementation both with Vitamins, Natural Health Supplements, OTC Medications and Prescriptions Medications.
Many of which, as you have stated, often antagonize each other and on occasion fatally. Thank you for bringing this vital piece of information to the forefront especially, that is, given the audience you reach out to. Further more don't always expect the experts to have all the answers. With so many "Natural Supplements" now flooding the market place, it becomes difficult for a pharmacist to keep up. Being deeply involved in heath and fitness personally and having taken various supplements over the years also while being on prescription medications. I always do my home work thoroughly before taking any new products which would also include food to avoid interactions. Mama Tenny, Out Of The Park Again.

Allergic reactions are frightening. I did the same thing- had the hives reaction to Cephalexin (antibiotic) in my 30s, but didn't take it seriously enough. Flash forward 20 years later, and I took a K-flex, not knowng it's the same thing, and ended up with anaphylactic shock/allergic reaction. Luckily for me (but sadly not her) my daughter was with me. I was driving at the time. Long story short, I ended up in a coma and on a ventilator for four days.

OH this reminds me of what happened to me when I took echinacea. First time my Grandma gave me some to help with a cold that was coming on. Took it, had a nap, woke up in agony. My stomach felt like it was going to explode. I rolled around for a bit and it subsided, but everyone kind of forgot about the echinacea and blamed the sickness. Second time (and last time) I had echinacea, took it again when I was getting sick. My lips and tongue swelled up about ten times their normal size and I broke out in hives everywhere! This time the doctor asked what I had taken/eaten/come in contact with and he immediately said echinacea was the culprit as this happened with lots of people! Terrifying experience I don't want to relive.

Thank you for this reminder, it is good to add one supplement at the time and check for any changes or improvements. If they are none, try something else. Also supplements don’t have to be taken daily maybe first week or two but after that they can be spread out. As we don’t eat some foods every day we don’t need same supplements every day.

I just take the more obvious ones, though, like a b-complex, C, D3, calcium, etc. My brother, on the other hand, is willing to try more "adventurous" ones like black cumin and things like that.

    You're in a Dutch lunchroom!!! 😄 That's funny!
Love this video. People tell you often: "O, you should take this..... It's natural so it doesn't harm you...." Well it does. I get very ill from stress relieving herbs, because my blood pressure is going down and it's already low on it's self. I get dizzy and feel like I'm about to faint. I especially react to Lion's Main which is an adaptogen. It made me so dizzy i fell. I didn't fainted, but lost coordination. I didn't hurt myself in a big way, but it might as well could.

Oh my goodness, what a traumatic experience! So glad that you're OK now! I had no idea that a reaction to supplements was so common. My kids (8 and 6) were getting strep throat a lot this past school year, and my sister recommended some kids' vitamins and supplements that she gives her kids. It was nothing crazy - vitamin C and something else with B12 in it. Anyways, after taking the vitamins for just a few days, my kids both began experiencing an itchy red rash whenever they were out in the sunlight - even for just a short period of time. It took a few days of that for me to realize the correlation, and we stopped the vitamins right away. The itchy rash went away after we stopped the vitamins, and I was shocked. I had no idea that reactions to vitamins and supplements was an actual "thing." Thanks for sharing your story. I know I definitely learned from it!

I was taking the regular vitamin C, D, E,B’s, devils claw (someone told me it was good for inflammation) sea buckthorn (I don’t even know now what it’s for) ginkgo balboa, omegas, milk thistle, glucosamine etc. Where did I find the time to take all this stuff, and why? There were a couple of more obscure things but I can’t remember them! Be well and thank you !❤️🤣

Sea buckthorn is actually good for the eyes and I do take that one, buti may stop because it’s one of the odd ones to me over my d3, E etc. I may rethink a couple actually because I don’t want something like this to occur. You can say the same about drugs.
This is why you need to have a practitioner who is trained in supplements.
A toxic response to a natural supplements means the patient is toxic.
You also need to know what works with each other.
We use many types of testing that shows what problems the patient have in the stool, blood, urine and saliva.
The GI tract is really a great place to start.
Those who push big pharma drugs and doctors don’t know nutrition and they are heavily paid to target natural health.
Doctors that aren’t functional are useless on this topic.
You can look up a topic called Astro Turf - it’s a TED talk by a woman who explains how that industry even controls Wikipedia.
And yes St John’s Worth have interaction with most drugs. Just like cannabis/marijuana etc.
I don’t know why you got an anaphylactic shock but it sounds scary.
There is an own bacteria that causes rashes on the skin and can be detected on a stool test.
H.Pylori and other intruders can throw your health around too.

Absolutely terrifying! I’m sorry about this, but, thank goodness you’re willing to tell the truth! Eating random foods don’t make a healthy diet, and a random assortment of herbs, supplements, and vitamins aren’t healthy, either. Every year I go through stages- dandelions in the spring, mulberries for about ten days in the summer, blueberries just before fall, and apples in their season. Any one of these things can be dangerous, because I source them by foraging… but I trust my sources (my neighbors) and, I limit these all to a specific time, their season. I also don’t routinely take multivitamin supplements year round, because during the spring and summer, I eat tons of vegetables and fruit. Supplements aren’t bad, and they can do very good, but thank you for saying it. They’re supplements, an additional boost to cover when the diet can’t. Good nutrition means you shouldn’t rely on pills and powders.

I dropped everything but krill oil and protein in my late 30s. I kept having this metallic taste in my mouth and turned out it was from all the overdosing on vitamins from the men's multivitamins I was taking while working out. I learned that you can essentially get everything you need as long as you eat a balanced diet with plenty of natural fruits and vegetables. I'm glad more research is coming out that basically shows over the counter supplements/vitamins aren't needed if you eat a good diet, despite the amount the fitness industry tries to push all the supplements. Obviously as you get older you may need calcium or something, but for the most part that stuff is a giant waste of time and money.

This is incredibly important for others to know. Especially for the young majority of the fitness industry who want to join in and start taking supplements. The reason they are called supplements is because they "supply", they give aid, just that, so you therefore don't need them. You're probably better off going natural and eschewing the use of supps. Yes, you probably won't get the same results, but the risks far overweigh the results

Hi Nancy, thank you so much for the information, the only supplement I took in the past was a hair, skin and nails but I didn't see much results so I stopped taking them. I am glad you are doing better too

I overdosed on ashwagandha and ended up jn hospital for a week with liver issues. Six months later when I recovered I also lost half my hair from the shock … one year in, I’m starting to grow my hair back and only take whatever my blood tests show I’m low in 🤒

Glad you're ok, I'm sure will is happy too, lol! Similar experience, nothing supplement related. I woke up normally getting for work, I felt dizzy lightheaded, drank a protein shake, got to work, still feeling weird, so I'm thinking maybe It wasn't enough, so I ate my normal work breakfast ,cottage cheese oatmeal, pineapples, I barely made it thru 2 clients. I started thinking it was anxiety and stress, of working at two salons, it was the holiday season. Long story short, I took time off, still didn't feel better, I went to local cvs, checked my blood pressure, it was super low, I needed a phone card, while I was paying for it i passed out, went to the ER, I needed a blood transfusion, after that I was cool .they strongly recommended a colostomy and a endoscopy, BOOM colon cancer I had a internal bleed, didn't know it. Im chilling now, had the tumor removed, nothing spread no chemo was needed. To quote Jim Morrison "the future is uncertain and the end is always near "

@@MamaTenny my hemoglobin was so low two doctors were surprised I was coherent, the tumor caused internal bleeding ,that I didn't notice, I'll let out the details on that note lol! but who knows if didn't pass out in public, and got hauled off to the ER, I probably could of went to sleep and never woke up

There are very few supplements that are clean. The rest have so many non sense ingredients.
