  • Season 16, Episode 22: With Geoff marooned in Barbados because of Hurricane Beryl, we have Cam Ponsonby jumping into the co-host chair for the first time on a weekly show as attention moves to the various points of interest coming from the announcement of England’s revamped Test squad. There’s also India’s record-smashing women’s team, Rocky Flintoff, county cricket and Cam’s voicenotes to discuss. Later, why does the T20 World Cup loss hurt so much for South African fans? Journalist Dan Gallan joins the show to provide context from both sides of the boundary.

Just jumping in on the modi nationalism debate here..what a lot of people from the western world don't understand is that india the country is a product of british occupation. Cricket is almost the only thing that ties up the country as diverse as india and that is a british contribution as is the indian railways. What the british took away is a lot of wealth and confidence as a people. What people exhibit towards the team is genuine national pride and joy andoutpouring of happiness at what we can do. It has always been that way since 1983 when Modi wasn't there. Modi is an astute politician who jumps onto things that people like for clout and photo ops. To say that people have nationalism because of modi is a misrepresentation.

Please say something on sky catch controversy vedio. I think It's a merely parallax effect btwn the spike of sky, the grass and the bottom of the cushion (white line). If you watch full vedio and zoom from both angle it's some grass plugged out and comes off in front of white line of blue cloth (cushion). More clear from RHS angle. You can check it from icc uploaded vedio or hotstar. Some pak and SA fan spread a vedio of 3 sec from LHS angle with in appropriate zoom angle and poor quality vedio. Too make more confusion. That bottom of cushion was 1-2 cm behind to touch the shoe. It's grass comes off with some soil. Parallax effect.

that’s a mistake that Indian fans wanted to win this due to mostly of reasons of hyper-nationalism times our Country has been in past 10 years under Modi govt. It goes much deeper than that. I will not go into details mostly because I am lazy to type but commenting here is the main reason to just register my disagreement with this narrative/ thinking. I also understand why someone from outside might think/believe that.
Just showing my disagreement, that’s all

6:03 Many have shown their disappointment towards the use of Modi 's nationalism. I want to say you that how west perceive word nationalism is different than how India percieves it. In west many times it has negative connotation, in India it doesn't have negative connotation. The way Indians see word nationalism they are nationalist. Thats why you will get push back from both sides for using modis nationalism. I mean you have been fed with that narrative by your media. (Enough of this)
I think Jarrod makes an important point about India wanting to win world cup its because we are young population most of us weren't really understanding the sport of cricket when India won in 2011 and 2007. So what this younger generation which makes most of the population is India dominating bilateral and group stages and loose when mattered
(I know the final word being final word will absolutely back its guest what's said by them still)
Edit- I had written India does have negative connotation while it should have been India doesn't have

@@shrikarhbhat1026 I disagree with you on type of nationalism in Indian politics. it is vile & negative in nature and it definitely has made us a bully. It is the same fever that west has already gone through. So, it’s a mistake to think that west doesn’t understand it.
Yet, I agree, Nationalism is NOT the only factor. And there is so much more to this.
Our Nationalism was positive before the current decade , but not anymore. we have been toxic, the earlier we accept it , the better it will be. Many are already talking about it.
A lot of us have felt suffocated with this Bullying nationalistic tone. And we have started to talk about it. And soon, people will realise that majority Indians are slowly ready to confront it. That’s the change in past few days. I am one of those who have been cautious in talking about it before but recent elections have given us some hope for at least have a conversation about it. We are fed up with negativity on social media

@@FinalWordCricket Because the Indian cricket team players do not play the sport to please any political leader. Its true that the in South Asian culture, political leaders want to be involved in and exert influence in cricket but that has gotten better over the past few years especially in India. Its lot more commercialized and capitalistic now.The influence that India exerts in cricket in the world stage is due to the disproportionate fraction of fans cricket has from India unlike in football which is a lot more universal sport. Thus I feel Modi or in that case any leader has got to do anything with Indias world cup campaign.Obviously leaders try to use world cup victories for their gains but Indian population is smart enough to understand those tricks

So ridiculous to invove Modi here. What does he have to do with players performance and fans reaction. In india cricketets were always under pressure and high expecation since 50 years. 1996 wc semis look at crowd reaction. 2007 wc exit see fans rectjon back home. I for one still cant digest aussie win in 2004 test series due to rain savjng them. Lol. Better not to poke nose in other country's politics.
