Even when you get heartbroken fishing all day if you just keep at it and eventually catch one it makes the day all worth it :) And I think your problem was the hooksets this video, you can set the hook real hard, harder than you think on fish with hard mouths and your rod is quite bendy which means you need to strike harder.
