This was mind-blowing. Of course we know your technique, but hats off to the creativity, and the music as well. Beautifully written, killer solos... just jaw-dropping. This is the one that makes me buy the album. And I just LOVE how you left the little miss at 4:05 in. This makes me think that not only is this 100% genuine, but also I'd bet on one take. Which is a testament to how incredible this performance is.
Beyond brilliant. Incomprehensibly inspired and innovative. POWERFUL. F'in ridiculous. This brought tears to my eyes. Am I even worthy to gaze upon such greatness? Love you Thomas!!
Outstanding! Absolute control of hands and feet, and you make it look effortless. I've been playing drums for decades and those beats strain a normal person to their physical limits, but you are past that Mr. Lang. Wow!
Had band practice last night. I've been playing pretty well lately and last night we sounded great. A couple of the other guys commented that my playing was sounding good. Feeling pretty good about the band and my drumming . But tonight I watched this. Now I'm tempted to pile my kit, sticks, and throne up in the back yard and set it all on fire. If Thomas is a drummer then I'm not sure what the hell I am.....
People who say Thomas has "no groove" are freaking nuts IMO. The last few play throughs are some of the grooviest stuff I heard in the last decade. so smooth, groovy, jawdroppingly technical and yet incredibly powerful. You are really one of a kind
This is technically brillant, but groovy? I can understand people that are not touched by this music although there are just a few drummers who could play this stuff.
@@dr.timschurig234 The song isn't in an easy-to-feel time signature, so it's not groovy in a sense that you move your head to a four-on-the-floor beat. The truth is, most people can't play whatever they hear but they can still feel the groove. Meaning you don't need to be able to play this stuff to feel the groove, because your playing skill is not what allows you to feel it, it's your music interpretation 'skill' instead. So yes, it's groovy, it's simply that not just anyone can feel it. Playing skill however improves your music interpretation, because it improves understanding. It's simpler to understand this when you look at the example of a kid wanting to learn drums. He initially wants to learn because he feels drawn by the feeling of drums in music, which makes up much of the groove. Then learning the actual drum grooves lets him understand more how the groove feels, which will show in his playing as he improves. Now, if he gives up drumming and eventually forgets how to play them, it doesn't mean he'll definitely lose the feel of the groove. As long as he keeps listening to music, he can feel the groove and even improve that feeling over time, even without playing an instrument. It's just that it'll be harder because he won't know exactly what he's feeling since he doesn't have a "medium" to properly understand whatever he is feeling. People who aren't touched by this music are mostly just too oblivious to care, or perhaps too ignorant themselves. I've had people tell me not to listen to reggae because Bob Marley smokes weed and therefore it's "druggie's music". But I didn't smoke anything to feel the music, all I did was try to tap into the laid-back groove, with the bass drum on the 3rd beat rather than the easy-to-feel 1st beat. And then learn to play reggae. And listen to a lot of reggae. Not that difficult, really. The reggae guitar riff still catches me even though I don't play an ounce of guitar. Hell, I've had some people say they don't like jazz. There was this guy who told me that in the face, and then says he liked metal. At one point he said he liked this one weird chord because it sounds cool, and I looked at it and said, "Yeah, modal interchange, jazz stuff". And he still had the gall to tell me, "Yeah, I still hate jazz, this sounds cool in metal though." -_- Sounds to me he just hates jazz because "it's jazz, oldies music", and loves metal because that's all he listened to his whole life. That's what ignorance does to you... (Note: this was an experience in music school, tertiary level study i.e. university level. Guy doesn't even play that well.)
Thomas, one word comes to mind... phenomenal. I've been drumming for decades and so happy about your style, giving innovation and inspiration to all drummers! Thank you and can't wait to hear all of ProgPop!
I really appreciate the symmetrical patterns you play for this song. It works really well with the rest of the music while also allowing the drums to stand on their own.
Well done Thomas! I always love watching and listening to you play. Those rata toms fit right in and I love those little wee hats on the right side, they almost look like bells. I'm sorry I couldn't catch up with in July, looks like I'll owe you 2 hugs next year. Be well my friend
I am starting to believe that playing all 6(?) of those foot pedals simultaneously is totally within this man's grasp. Awesome performance, Thomas-- Thanks!!
Went to a concert this weekend, came back feeling back in the groove and pumped about drumming. Watched this and now I'll just go take up Tennis or something.
Holy shit RUclips, why have you been keeping this guy from me?!! The old Algo needs a reboot. Freakin' awesome drummer, as the rest of the world already knows!!

Totally awesome...always wanted to see you play the Tomas Haake ''Bleed'' beat based on feet hertas, you did exactly that at 1:58...again, your playing is so fluid and precise, intricate and tasty...you are the best...

Incredible job, Thomas. I don't know why, but the melody is kind of reminding me of a Phil Collins song. Especially his Hello, I Must Be Going album. But, I think that's just me.
Superb. Smooth, fluid playing. Love watching drummers who aren’t even trying. Great double bass pedal playing and I always love octobans on any kit. Stewart Copeland uses them frequently. Song isn’t so hot though but I came for the drumming. 👍
Literally could watch this guy for hours.
the stuff Thomas can play heel down blows my mind, nobody else has that kind of dynamic range with their feet
Lars Ulrich does....
@@OriginalGansta88 😄😄😄😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
Thomas is a legend..but also try Matt Gartska..
I thought I was the only one who played heel down........but I'm not in the same league either
Well i can play some of it heel down... Its my only technique so i devloped it quite a bit
that's thomas for you always fresh & never disappoints wish he would get a band together & tour
“Busy” drummers sometimes take flack for not being musical. This is super busy, yet so musical at the same time. He’s incredible!
Frank Zappa would have loved this guy!
I love Frank
@@johnnyb2799 Frank is a freak ,i like freaks .Too bad Franks not around ,I know he would like Thomas.
I was gonna just say, I'm not feeling the music. Reminds me of a drum off
A living legend. And I absolutely love the sound of those Meinl cymbals.
How the heck was prop pop not nominated for a Grammy!? I can’t stop listening to it!
Cuz the Grammys are a joke
We all know that lol
Grammys only want commercial trash.
Not art
No auto tune, no 4/4, no attention-seeking bim flaunting overt sexuality all over the place, no Grammy.
Because as awesome as this is, it's impenetrably boring to most listeners.

Thomas is a unique drummer so clean and so professional. He blows my mind every time I see him.
2:00 It suddenly turns into Bleed!
He plays bleed in the other video from this album Time. Hertas are sick.
He’s probably the only drummer who could actually play “bleed” with one foot if he chose to do so.

He’s sweating? So he must be human? Interesting.
Nah, that's just the liquid cooling from his processors
Adam Langs oh Shit you’re right

BUT STILL, HE IS PLAYING ALONE...its harder to do band with extreme musicians
Listen to what Kyle Reese says in The Terminator....
Working 2 pedals with 1 foot is extremely difficult to do. He does it so effortlessly. Along with so many other skills on the kit. A true great!
How is it possível don't like this video???.
TL is awesome, a really impressive drummer.
Absolutely insane
Astonishing
He hit the peak. A human can't physically get any better on drums.. time to master guitar 🤷♂️
