This is true love we're making indeed~ ...Though that'll end once God Rugal enters the fray! Capcom players will know SNK players' pain through him! X'D AHA! Thought I didn't have any facts for Capcom vs SNK, did you? I decided to reserve the facts about the Capcom vs SNK duology in the best playing game, CVS2! CVS1 may be the best presentation wise but this game is the best gameplay wise and... That's usually the most important factor (You KNOW Max loves MVCI less because of the presentation and more about the gameplay, so that says a LOT). - The story for the CVS series is... well Capcom and SNK fighters just...co-exist in this world! However, this seems to be the first time Capcom and SNK fighters are meeting each other as they've certainly heard of each other (as Geese mentions if you fight him in CVS1 and as Rugal/Akuma mention in the CVS2 Special Final Bosses). - Rumor has it that the birth of CVS involved misinformation in a game magazine called "Arcadia". KOF '98 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 released around the same and the magazine titled apparently read "KOF vs SF". People thought this was an official game on the horizon but that wasn't true. However, it appeared that as a result of this, Capcom and SNK signed a deal for both companies to make two crossover fighting games involving each other's respective fighters. Again, this is only a rumor and not exactly confirmed official (unless someone can confirm that?) so take what I say with a grain of salt. - From Capcom, they made Capcom vs SNK: Milennium Fight 2000 and Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 (or known in japan as CVS2: Millionaire Fighting 2001). From SNK, they made SNK vs Capcom: The Match of the Milennium for the Neo Geo Pocket Color and, in 2003, SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos (yes that's the title) for the Neo Geo. Let's be real, the CVS series was the more popular of the two. - As part of the "contract", the company that makes the game gets the profit. So while Capcom vs SNK duology was clearly the popular of the other two SVC games, Capcom received most if not ALL the profit, which did not help SNK's financial issues. On the bright side, the games were more than likely responsible for introducing many Capcom players to the SNK fighters. - The "contract" stated that the companies needed to make FIGHTERS. However, SNK managed to get around this by making a side series called SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters. I know VERY little about these, btw, but I do know they made three games, with SVC: Card Fighters DS being not only the last game in the Card Fighters series but also the last game to be a SNK and Capcom collab game... I think there's a card in Card Fighters DS with Kula receiving a piggyback from Guile? XD - CVS1 received an update called CVS Pro, but it's exclusive to Japan sadly. This version adds in Joe Higashi and Dan Hibiki, does some balance adjustments, new modes to play, and even gives new moves to the already existing characters not available in the last version. - CVS2 received an update called CVS2 EO (Easy Operation/Extreme Offense in the US). Unlike last game, the only changes to this update are some balance updates, the removal of the "Roll Cancel glitch", some small additions to the Grooves (for the P Groove, you can now cancel special moves into super combos which is something you could do in the SFIII series), and the EO system. The EO System is notorious for being completely... Well, easy. Basically, if you have this on, you can do special moves at the flick of the right analog stick (or C-Stick for GameCube). - In both CVS games, Rugal fights in his suit completely. The last time Rugal fought in his suit was in KOF '94. Since then, you'd find him with his coat off. Strangely, a lot of Rugal's move names are CENSORED. For example, Rugal's Genocide cutter is called Destroyer Cutter in the list and Rugal doesn't even SAY the name. He just...does it! - There are plenty of fun interactions between the various fighters of CVS1 and especially CVS2. For example, Rugal and Guile have a special interaction referencing the fact that there was a statue of Guile seen in KOF '94, implying that he was one of the fighters Rugal liquified after beating him (though don't take this seriously, it's just a fun reference)... Though does that mean that Rugal lied about beating Guile and he just had a statue of him just to feel good about himself? XD (Again, don't take this seriously) - Hon Fu (from Fatal Fury 3) appears in Chun-Li vs Yamazaki intro. Hon Fu and Yamazaki are "rivals", after all. But as usual, he's treated as joke as he claims that he'll help Chun-Li (an interpool officer) capture Yamazaki... but Yamazaki just snake punches him and forces him to run off. - In both CVS games, there were specific art for the character selection depending on which playstyle you chose: Capcom or SNK. On the Capcom side, the character art is drawn by Kinu Nishimura of Capcom fame, and on the SNK side, the character art is drawn by EX-SNK employee Shinkiro (who would eventually move to Capcom following SNK's bankruptcy). Which is your favorite? - In CVS1, M. Bison and Geese are the main antagonists (with Akuma, Morrigan and Nakoruru being secret fights in the Arcade Mode). In CVS2, M. Bison and Geese are downgraded to mid-bosses while Akuma and Rugal appear as the "main antagonists"... In a twist, there's a possibility that you won't even fight one of the two if you don't play well enough. There's a chance you can fight regular Akuma or regular Rugal, but play well enough, and you might fight Shin Akuma or the dreadful God Rugal (known as Ultimate Rugal internationally). - Shin Akuma's appearance technically debuted in CVS2. Lemme explain: The form, Shin Akuma, debuted in Street Fighter Alpha 2, yes. But the appearance usually associated with "Shin Akuma" came from CVS2, with the inclusion of white hair, even darker skin, darker clothes, and the kanji on his back changing (this same kanji would be used for Akuma's SFV appearance... even Shin Akuma appears in SFV as a Bonus Fight in the Arcade Modes of the SF2 and SF4 paths... he was a fight money event prior to this). - In CVS2, Shin Akuma gets his appearance from absorbing Rugal's orochi power (hence the white hair as Omega Rugal gets white hair upon powering up). Upon defeat, he's on the death's doorstep, but black spirits (possibly Orochi) take him away and encourage him to get stronger. - God Rugal makes his one and only appearance in CVS2 (well, he also appears in SVC: Card Fighters 2, but details~). This is the result of Rugal merging the Satsui no Hado with the Orochi power, granting Rugal incredible strength and enhanced powers. Capcom players not familiar with SNK Bosses will surely understand how SNK players feel fighting God Rugal. He even has his own version of the "Raging Demon" attack! Upon his defeat, Rugal literally does what he did in KOF '95: He tries to tap more power than he can take. Unlike last time where he dies from it, the Satsui no Hado TAKES OVER RUGAL, creating an entirely different character who's similar to Akuma in terms of motives. This iteration of Rugal leaves, desiring to get stronger with the Satsui no Hado. Weeeeird. - In Capcom vs SNK 2, some long time missing fighters from the Capcom side return like Eagle from the very first Street Fighter, Maki from Final Fight 2, and Kyosuke from Rival Schools. Final Fight and Rival Schools take place in the same universe as Street Fighter, by the way. Yun from SFIII and Rolento from Final Fight appear too. Strangely enough, these guys (except Kyosuke) appear in the PSP port of Street Fighter Alpha 3 (called SFA3 Max)...and they use the same sprite as CVS2! Yeah, YUN appears in Alpha 3 MAX! Obviously, this is non-canon because the Alpha series is after SF1 but BEFORE SF2. Yun is from sF3 which takes place well after SF4 and SF5. - On the SNK side, we've got plenty of newcomers: Rock Howard of Fatal Fury, Haohmaru of Samurai Shodown, Ryuhaku Todoh from AOF1 (Kasumi, his daughter, appears sometimes with him), Chang & Choi together (like Ken and Koromaru from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax), Athena Asamiya in her '94 or '95 look (I can't tell. O_O), and Hibiki from The Last Blade 2. - Goro Daimon, a classic Japan Team member, may appear if you pit Kyo and Benimaru against each other. - Here's a fun fact: K' from KOF and Alex from SF appear in SVC for the NGPC... but ONLY if you put the cartridge in the original Neo Geo Pocket (which, y'know, lacks color) as part of one the many error screens, such as one where Kyo (in his NESTS Saga outfit) playing the Pocket Color with Iori not caring, one with Chizuru and King telling you "Sorry!", Kaede of Last Blade playing with Lilith from Darkstalkers, and Li Xiangfei cutely and angrily trying to play this game on the Pocket with Chun-Li doing her usual cute taunt animation. SNK had fun with this so they made these error screens just in case you made this error. You're supposed to play SVC on the Pocket Color not the Pocket! >w0 - I think I know the joke behind the K' and Alex error screen: K' and Alex were both new main protagonists for their respective games (KOF '99 and Street Fighter III)...and both of them don't appear in the game proper~! (Though Alex does cameo in the Nairobi Stage from CVS2 alongside Falcon from Power Stone, Leona, Ralf, Clark, and Heidern). That's all for now! ...I know if I split these up between the CVS1 and CVS2 videos, they would've been dreadfully short...and I like making these long. TwT
CVS Pro did come out in the States, the PS1. Littered with load times, missing frames of animation, and the quality of the sprites took a hit as well. Bravo for the rest of the trivia!
I'm always amused by that. He's ramming his fist into you then releasing enough energy to shake the planet but is kind enough to see if you're alright. Yes, Terry. My insides are obliterated but I'm fine.
@@joshualowe959 Shin Akuma was a way better than before, specially for the Raging Demon x2 hits xDD but basically don't has nothing new. Anyway I like more his ending than the ending of Rugal.
FINALLY. The one game I was looking forward to him playing the most in this Terry Legacy. The freaking game that INTRODUCED me to Kyo and Terry/the rest of the KoF/SNK characters.
This seems to be the one boss that always comes back... In some ways it’s poetic. I like to think Rugal is Max’s ultimate foe. And he shall always meet him in battle.
Right up there with Cyber Akuma. If Max being disappointed by the how easy the XV Omega Rugal fight was to the point of deciding to marathon every Rugal fight on hardest difficulty to find which is the hardest doesn't say "one true nemesis", I don't know what will.
@@Skuntac I like it. But the only good thing about the game is the roster and some of the game play. Not the best game play neither. But the version you have sucks. It has input lag and it's a waste of money. Just get it on the ps2 or dream cast. You wasted money on a crappy port.
@@sladejosephwilson2300 There's no lag on my end. And it absolutely was worth it since I don't have a Dreamcast or ps2 arcade stick, and neither do my friends or family, so we all can play the way we want. Also, I have a crt with component input, so it looks better than even a flat screen. 10 bucks wasted is literally nothing. I spend more on lunch everyday. Absolutely more than worth it.
To answer your question, Max, Millennium Fight was the original CvS. (Full title: Capcom vs SNK: Millennium Fight 2000.) In regions outside of Japan, CvS2 was known as *Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium.* (Whereas SvC's full title, on the Neo Geo, was SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos. I just thought I'd throw that one in there.)
If there's ever a CvS3, that fusion needs to be either the final or secret boss. Also an assload of fighters that aren't mostly those from Street Fighter and KOF (even though the later itself is a crossover itself).
To answer two questions Max had in the vid, Geese's raging storm is still the pretzel input in this game (down-back, half-circle back, down-forward + punch) and the Millionaire Fighting subtitle is because Ken Masters' and Robert Garcia's companies are sponsoring the event
I forgot where I read this cause it was years ago, but its called Millionaire Fighting because apparently Ken masters and Robert Garcia are the ones that funded the tournament. Which is why you see "Masters foundation" and "garcia Concern" on that one level where the tournament is being held.
It's Millionaire Fighting because the tournament is supposed to be jointly sponsored by the Garcia Concern (the company run by Ryo's rich friend, Robert Garcia), and the Masters Foundation (Ken's company).
I think it was called Millionaire Fighting because Ken Masters and Robert Garcia sponsored the tournament. In the finals stage you see both their names of their companies in the background.
Also I think Millionaire fighting thing is because its sponsored by Ken and Robert Garcia (Who isnt playable) thier foundations or companies show up in either a background scene or the OSAKA tournament finals stage.
This is the game where I got to know Terry Bogard himself. A friend of my brother lent him his CvS2:EO copy for the gamecube and I remember playing it when my brothers where at school. Back then I knew jack on how fighting games worked (6 buttons, command inputs, I knew nothing), however this game had that GC style thing where using the C-Stick would let you do command inputs on the fly, so I always used that. It wouldn't be until Marvel VS Capcom 3 where I had more formal knowledge on how fighting games even worked (Thanks to Max, actually) and I recently came back to CvS2 with more formal knowledge to ACTUALLY learn how to play this game (because Terry in smash and all). Speaking of Terry, back then I don't know why I liked terry so much but I did. I eventually named my dog Terry because of this (He passed away a couple of years back), I remember him fondly.
Max has faced SHIN AKUMA in his: 1. CVS2 Boss Rage video 2. CVS2 Road to Rage video 3. Sakura Legacy video Max has faced ULTIMATE RUGAL in his: 1. CVS2 Boss Rage video 2. Akuma Legacy video 3. Terry Legacy video
@M L I'm taking about CVS2. Not SVC CHAOS. However Max has always faced Violent Ken & Shin Akuma as his bosses in SVC CHAOS. I have always wanted to see how he would fare against Orochi Iori & Serious Mr Karate
@M L I think so too. First he would have to get past Orochi Iori. Hey, you know what? Isn't it odd that Capcom & SNK kept Shin Akuma & Orochi Iori and yet: 1. SNK replaced Evil Ryu with Violent Ken 2. SNK replaced Rugal with Mr. Karate
I'mma have to watch this video again once higher resolutions are available. CvS2's presentation is really something to behold. The menus, the characters' sprites and animations (Morrigan aside), the sound design, especially during a K.O. And who could forget Shin Akuma's pixel-breaking super?
While many have been asking for a new crossover game between SNK and Capcom it’s extremely unlikely to happen again. They would not even have made CvS, CvS2, SvC (Neo Geo Pocket) and SvC Chaos, if it wasn’t because SNK by that time was about to go bankrupt and decided to deal with Capcom because they urgently needed money, unfortunately the only one who benefited from the deal was Capcom, and SNK went bankrupt, so they have no reason to make a new deal, not to mention that SNK has said that they didn’t like working with Capcom so they has less reasons to collaborate again, a sample of this was the time when SNK was about to enter a second bankruptcy (Since the HD sprites were expensive to make and the game did not sell enough to be profitable) they could have made a deal again during that time if they would have wanted to, but SNK obviously didn't do it because they already had a bad experience with Capcom and didn't want to repeat their mistake again. I must also say that the current status of Capcom fighting games could be another reason why SNK isn’t interested in dealing with them. If you want a crossover between SNK and Capcom, at least in the near future, it may only be possible in games like Smash Bros or Tekken 7, or in fan games, nothing more. And if you just want SNK to make a crossover with any another fighting game franchise, it's more likely that they will do it with Bandai Namco (excluding anime-fighters), since it seems that they get along pretty well, the invited characters in Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur from SNK, and the guest characters in KOF All Star from Tekken are proof of that. So it’s much more likely that in the future we will see Tekken vs KOF, Samurai Calibur, SNK X Bandai... or how they decide to call the crossover.
Yes, CvS2 had a good competitive scene until the EO version for the Gamecube patched out the roll cancels. Roll cancels allowed projectile spammers to get screwed over by rushers and CQCs fighters. Grooves were also tweaked.
2nd Secret: Beat Survival Mode, and you'll unlock a Secret Groove that allows you to select any mechanic ability to play from any Groove that couldn't be edited before. For example, the SNK's Ability Grooves can be added and mixed with Capcom Groove Ability's. It's worth it. but good luck in defeating -> ULTIMATE Rugal + Shin Akuma. which ever one comes first! XD
13:30 The fact that Capcom used the same Morrigan sprites from the first Darkstalkers all the way through two MvCs and two CvSs never ceases to amaze me. Specially when I think of how many times Ryu and Chun-Li got redrawn on the same time.
23:20 I think its “Millionaire” fighting because CVS is the “Match of the millennium”. Granted, a millennium is only a thousand years so..., yeah Engrish.
The reason this tournament is known as, The Millionaire Fighting, is because it was put together and broadcast by the Masters Foundation, and the Garcia Conglomerate. (Ken and Robert's respective rich families, though Robert himself isnt playable).
Which is true because in the current KOF canon Yuri is either engaged to Robert or married to him. Which means Ryo is possibly Robert's brother-in-law.
7:00 Why the hell is Karman Cole talking to Billy Kane(one is an employee to the Garcias, which own a restaurant and the other was a hired thug from Geese's mafia group)? That's got to be the weirdest scene so far. Weirder than Elena hanging out by herself with a bag of groceries in UK when she is supposed to be studying in Japan
Ahhhhhhh, at last! My favorite 2d fighter ever made (Skullgirls is the runner up btw). K/N/C-Groove R2Iori point> R2Sagat anchor has been my goto over the years, with Hibiki probably being my most used after them (LB2 being easily my fave SNK fighter). Still can't believe Terry's acutally getting into Smash. Wanted that badly ever since Ryu got into SSB4.
I think it's safe to say that this game is what got me into fighting games in the first place and introduced me to the KoF cast. Such good memories between me and my cousin going at it in this game. I always used Kyo, Ken and Joe while he used King, Cammy and Terry. Good times. They need to bring this game back in some way in the future.
@@omegadragoon1544 Rugal absorbed power that he knew nothing about and look what happened: it consumed him. Meanwhile, Akuma received power he knew nothing about yet he was still able to get outshined.
Here's a really fun fact about Terry: Did you know that whenever Terry does a Power Dunk, he actually turns his cap backwards on his head and then changes it back to it's usual position after he executes the move? And for his Rising Tackle, he (usually) holds his cap so it doesn't fall off his head (because he's upside down, obviously).
Blanka being good in anything hurts my soul. I love the cameos and references that you get with certain character intros. Leona, Elena, Rose, Billy Kane and his sister, Dudley, Alex, Heidern, that lady with the weird hair from Star Gladiator, and several others can be seen in the backgrounds of various stages. Ryu and Ryo's intro is a nod to how rounds would begin in Art of Fighting, and Guile and Rugal's intro has them destroying the "Guile statue" from KOF '94. There's a lot of cool stuff in this game despite how unbalanced it is.
Fun thing about this game: Desk discovered that in C-groove, you can cancel a level 2 super into a special, which you can then normally cancel into level 1 super. I guess they did this because C groove is the only one that lets you do level 2 supers.
I love that Ken tosses Terry his hat. That's some respect from one fighter to another.
That and the interaction between Kyo and Iori are my favorites.

You're supposed to play SVC on the Pocket Color not the Pocket! >w0
- I think I know the joke behind the K' and Alex error screen: K' and Alex were both new main protagonists for their respective games (KOF '99 and Street Fighter III)...and both of them don't appear in the game proper~!
TwT

No Max, this what the low damage in Capcom Versus games feels like after playing so many classic SNK games.

@@mr.perfectcell7106 Mvc2 is great but is broken by too many top tiers

2. CVS2 Road to Rage video

Isn't it odd that Capcom & SNK kept Shin Akuma & Orochi Iori and yet:
1. SNK replaced Evil Ryu with Violent Ken
2. SNK replaced Rugal with Mr. Karate
@M L I agree. Hey, speaking of Zero, wouldn't it be crazy if Capcom's Zero was paired against SNK'S Zero? You know, the NESTS Zero
I'mma have to watch this video again once higher resolutions are available. CvS2's presentation is really something to behold. The menus, the characters' sprites and animations (Morrigan aside), the sound design, especially during a K.O.
And who could forget Shin Akuma's pixel-breaking super?

CVS2 May come by 2030
While many have been asking for a new crossover game between SNK and Capcom it’s extremely unlikely to happen again.
2nd Secret: Beat Survival Mode, and you'll unlock a Secret Groove
that allows you to select any mechanic ability to play from any Groove
that couldn't be edited before. For example, the SNK's Ability Grooves
can be added and mixed with Capcom Groove Ability's. It's worth it.
but good luck in defeating -> ULTIMATE Rugal + Shin Akuma.
