I have a son who is deaf and on the spectrum. He loves Tom and Jerry because all of the stuff they do is nonverbal.

My son is also on the spectrum and he loved the movie. I see this movie getting some hate but this movie have my son one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen him have so I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well.

At least THAT version of Tom and Jerry would have likable human characters....
The funniest part of this is how there is a suite life episode where Mr Mosby does the exact same thing as Tom does in the movie and catches the baseball away from the player and ruins the entire game because of it

“Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby” has always convinced me that Tom and Jerry were black, this movies soundtrack just confirmed it. lol

How to fix this movie:
Forget about the girl wanting a job and forget about the wedding drama. Just get rid of it all together. Keep the plot of Jerry moving into the hotel and Tom trying to get rid of him so the wedding doesn't get canceled and ruin the reputation. The human character's reason isn't "I need to keep this job" and have it "It is now my job". Just have the human character try and keep the damage to a minimum and keep the fact Jerry is in the hotel a secret. There, it would have made the movie a whole lot better, focusing more time on Tom and Jerry fighting.
Alternatively, if you want to give Chloe Moretz's character an arc, get rid of the "lying her way to the top" rubbish and just make her a self-serious over-achiever, that's something people can relate to, whether you're school age, college age or working age. This is something that kids' films like this get wrong a lot; understandably, what works in a 7 min short or an 11-22 min episode of a cartoon will likely not work in a feature film, okay, fair enough, but it feels like these movies go through minimal drafting to get the film to that balance between layered and simple, where you can get across so much story and character with what looks like little effort. As a budding writer myself, the "Chloe Moretz lying her way to the top" stuff feels like the sort of thing that you get rid of after you go over the second or third draft. I understand that drafting is a pain and makes you feel like your movie or book will never get made, but it's necessary to prevent it being a guaranteed mess.
I think it would be funnier if the girl thinks cats are cute but mice are cuter and likes to spoil Tom, so Tom needs to keep Jerry away so he keeps the luxury to himself, while Jerry tries to escape poverty. I’ve always liked the more hateable Tom as well as the more innocent Jerry.

@@liciee14 Yep its a pretty dated and racist stereotype. But growing up I always thought Tom was black because he was owned by "Mammy". Not to mention in some of the cartoons Tom wears a Zoot Suite and plays Jazz music so I guess canonocially he has at least always been potrayed as black

Jeez, the plot sounds like someone was half asleep while flipping between a Tom & Jerry cartoon and the Disney Channel. I wasn't planning to see this movie, but I have a feeling I wouldn't be nearly as entertained as I was watching this review, so as far as I'm concerned, I've seen it now. Thanks Andre! Oh and I appreciated that extra little dig at CATS there 👍

I think is because Tom & Jerry are not made for a full length feature, hence why in most feature length stories, they're put in the background of another story

You know what would have been a great gag? Having the characters spending a few minutes deliberately pointing out how fragile and easily breakable that glass ceiling was, and then at several points during the movie, it comes SO CLOSE to being destroyed, but nothing ever actually happens to it.
Until after the credits roll, and you have a post-credits scene where a tiny bird bumps into it and the whole thing shatters.
I think I've seen clips of a movie with a lot of build up to an airport disaster, an airplane nearly crashing into the glass wall of said airport but only slightly tapping it. What is that movie called?

Sounds like someone is mad their hotel "drama" script about a girl lying her way to the top didn't get picked up by a major movie studio, and quickly astroturfed it into a Tom & Jerry movie in the final few minutes.
Ok strange and on topic but also not at the same time. I am not kidding, my grandpa is named Tom and his twin brother is named Jerry. This is also not a joke. They HATE each other and haven’t talked to each other in decades. Anyway great review!

Considering Sonic is a teenager, it would make sense why he would do what's considered popular with kids these days. Besides, it's only one moment in an otherwise solid movie.

Okay, but imagine a version of this film where only Tom & Jerry are animated and all the human characters react confused when they do cartoon shit and the whole film is actually a secret psychological horror movie where people have to contend with reality breaking cartoon animals who seek only to destroy each other.

Same!! I’m kinda upset the way Lola looks like but it’s just concept art. Hopefully the trailer will bring her & the movie justice. I heard a bit of the script but I think it could be misleading. Hopefully they don’t put too much cringe in it. I don’t mind if they update the times like social media I think it’s alright
This movie was a test for the animation. They wanted to see how people would react to how the animation mixes with real people.

"Tom and Jerry are Black now." Now? They've been Black since Puss Gets The Boot. Jazz music in the early shorts, 1940s AAVE in their speech and mannerisms, heck, they've had a Black owner in the better set of shorts. At least Tom being a great pianist was left intact given he has played the piano in three shorts (The Cat Concerto, The Zoot Cat, Johann Cat). Anybody that couldn't see their blackness chose not to.

Yeah the music adds flavor and it actually fits with Tom and Jerry because the music in early cartoons were mostly Jazz or Bebop.
Jodeci and Tribe was funny and refreshing.
T&J was surprisingly funny but also has a made for tv or streaming standard.

Why is it that in every movie about cartoon characters appearing in the real world, they always end up in new york? Why not somewhere else like Texas, Vermont or Wisconsin?
I just fished it on HBO Max. When I saw it on theaters, at times I couldn't hear what was going on, cuz being a family movie, there were kids there. My rating is I had a good time no alcohol required
This film was actually pretty great, it follows what Tom and Jerry are, they slapsticks were ok, and the animation for all the animals looked pretty good. The only thing I would want to get rid of is obviously the humans life story, they made it seem like it was an important thing to learn off, but this is supposed to be Tom and Jerry, we don't give a crap about the humans or their life problems, all we care about is Tom and Jerry trying to kill each other in the most hilarious way possible

The amount of cartoon animals in the movie is at Detective Pikachu levels of detailed!
I think a droopy dog movie could work in the same style, the plot would be that droopy works for the police amd the police gets a call that the wolf from red hot ridding hood is kidnapping red hot ridding hood but the police chief doesn't think droopy is right for the job so the send officers but they can't catch him because he is a cartoon and there weapons can't harm him so they send droopy. so droopy tries to prove to chief he is a good cop and could catch the wolf

At least they didn’t talk in this one, used characters from the original shorts, and they actually let Tom and Jerry do the type of slapstick they’re known for. Even if it’s not the main focus of the movie, the 90’s movie didn’t even do half of the stuff this did when it actually came to Tom and Jerry themselves with the exception of the first 10 minutes.

I think they dislike the humans considering tom and jerry had 8 humans in the history of the show and never showed their faces so it shouldn't of been focused on on people it was more of a NY girl story ft. tom and jerry
I think people expect more Tom and Jerry and less Human subplot in this film.

Uh no, they are not. They were always white. They had white owners and a black housekeeper. Mel Blanc who was white, voiced Tom. PC ruins shit. They never were, stop changing history Christ. I watched every iteration of Tom and Jerry growing up.

Me and my friends did a group watch of the film on release day and we honestly had a lot of fun with the human stuff in the film to, I think we all went into the film with our expectations low that we were honestly surprised how much fun we were having with the film. Some of the live actors just have really funny delivery with their lines or really funny body language to where we enjoyed their performances. I would have been happy with some more Tom & Jerry of course, but considering how their tv movies and straight to dvd content has been as of late I honestly saw this as probably one of the best Tom & Jerry related things in awhile. Overall pretty fun movie, wouldn't mind watching it again.
It felt like who ever made this film only saw Tom & Jerry through a neighbor's window in the middle of a blizzard while avoiding gunfire and chugging embalming fluid and laxitives

I was working at a movie theater Saturday night, and there was a huge group (I'd say 30+) of black teens all there to see Tom & Jerry. A lot had Tom & Jerry t-shirts (and some Looney Tunes). So, yeah, I guess Tom & Jerry are black icons?
Point being, please stay at home, you can watch this movie at home.

@@littlesparrow303 It usually is very empty. It still picks up some on the weekends, and when new movies come out. It got especially crazy when Wonder Woman came out.
The whole "wearing cartoons on your clothes" trend is back in style. I was in Wal-Mart the other day and the junior's section had Scooby-Doo, Rugrats, and the Looney Toons sweatshirts.

I watched it on HBO Max, thanks to my niece Destiny! I thought it was good. I love how they stayed true to the classic cartoons. And the music was on point! A Tribe Called Quest, Jodeci, Eric B. and Rakim, Jagged Edge - I need that soundtrack too! Great and super funny review as always, Andre!
Saw all but the ending because my 5 year old puked in the theater because he overate popcorn and pop.
Just waiting for Michael Bay to get his hands on SWAT Katz after this movie did surprisingly well in the box office

I liked this movie. It reminded me a lot of post "A Night at the Opera" Marx Brothers movies where they're assisting other characters being held down by stuffy authoritative types. This means that they ARE secondary characters since they have no development, but they're characters where development would be detrimental to their core concept. If Tom and Jerry learn and grow they stop doing what we watch Tom and Jerry for.

My thoughts of the Tom and Jerry movie:
I loved it! Every minute and second of it! I laughed my ass off at that first animal tornado scene! The characters are amazing, animated and human, the animated animals have that classic 40s-50s look, feel and spirit! The setting and the way they executed the plot is perfect for a Tom and Jerry movie.
I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and a 10/10! Best movie of 2021 imo! 😄❤🐱🐁

Who Framed Tom & Jerry ultimately became a new entry in the "Lame Unrelated Human Story With Special Appearance By A Famous Intellectual Property" franchise. That franchise has grown quite a bit over the years, and features such classics as "Transformers" and "Godzilla (2014)". Somebody definitely wrote this movie in their sleep and it shows. Still, I did have at least some fun with it. I enjoyed all the references to the original classic shorts from back in the day, which they really went all out for, and I marked out pretty good for that Droopy cameo (as well as a squirrel Jerry encounters in the park that very clearly resembles and/or was based on Tex Avery's Screwy Squirrel character).
