Pick a favorite incarnation of POCO? Too doggone hard for me, but this lineup was hell on wheels LIVE!!! Why this band is not recognized as one of the all time greats is beyond me. I guess the world just wasn't ready for country rock back then. Thanks for posting the POCO vidz gang.
Who was the talent coordinator musically savvy enough to book Poco, Linda Ronstadt and The Flying Burrito Brothers ALL ON THE SAME SHOW? How wonderfully insane. Sounds like something Merv Griffin would do on one of his wacky "theme" shows.
Imagine that, two Country Rock pioneers Poco and the Flying Burritos Bros. in the same show. The Eagles took what it's predecessors (including Poco, Burritos, Byrds, Beau Brummels etc.) laid down and became stars. Bands that wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, employed melody and harmony...how radical.
The best country rock band for me, better than the Eagles. For most of my life I thought I was the only italian to know of Poco. Is there someone else?
This is the first Poco song I heard & I was hooked on them. I wished Jim Messina stayed longer in this band, because I think they would have made it really big if he did. They were all really talented, but Jim added something special to this band, They never got the fame they deserved.
This was the best Poco lineup, the most creative. Meisner was a hiccup, tho he profited during the reunion tour. Really super to see this fabulous performance of Messina's crowning achievement.
That was Fantastic! I love that whole album. it sounds so young and fresh (which they were). I don't know why they didn't sell more records. We all loved to hear them whether or not we were buying them. I finally bought all their music when it came out on cd and just couldn't believe how beautiful and uplifting all of their music is. They were a great American band. They Byrds were always my favorite of that genre, but I think Poco is really more fun to listen to.
On this day in 1970 (October 10th} Poco performed "You Better Think Twice" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... One week earlier on October 3rd it entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #72 and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #61 on the Canadian RPM Tracks chart... Future Eagle Timothy B. Schmit was at this time the group's bass player, having join the group the September 1969... R.I.P. Mr. Clark... {'Something Else' ran for one season, 25 episodes}
Dude, can I call you Dude, absolutely right,Deliverin is a great album, wish i was there too young though (4 yrs) what a blessing,I wish there was some footage around from those Boston shows
I remember John Byner, who was usually a funny guy. That intro was clearly not his finest moment. I don't remember the show "Something Else", however, and I would have been too young to appreciate Poco, Flying Burrito Bros. and Linda Ronstadt on the same show. That was freakin' awesome. The late 60's-early 70's country rock was fantastic. Sadly, they don't make music like that anymore.
At least Poco members got on with each other and have remained friends for 40 years. The infighting in The Eagles tore them apart and we all know about the immortal quotation. "Till Hell Freezes Over"
Those were the good ole' days. Timothy B. Schmitt never ages. I'm so old,I never consdered him and Joe Walsh to be Eagles though. Timothy was a Poco member and Joe Walsh was in the James Gang. Its like you never like to see your favorite sports star on a different team. Oh wait,my nurse is telling me to take my psych meds.......
Poco's problem back then was people weren't ready for taht kind of sound. At a time when Led Zeppelin, Stones, Eagles etc were around people wanted heavier rock. If Poco was around today they'd be a hit.
John Byner used to do a show on Showtime called "Bizarre" which was an absolute scream. That show also brought us "Super Dave" Osborne...too damn funny.
It always baffled me why Poco never enjoyed the big commercial success on the level of Eagles and CSN&Y. I read somewhere: "too country for rock and too rock for country." Maybe that's it. Such a great song -- and I don't think it ever cracked the charts. Without question among the best musical and song-writing talent of the day.
@fms1952 I've always wondered the same thing. I think they were, in a way, ahead of their time -- they didn't get a lot of radio play because they didn't fit neatly into any of the established categories of the day -- too rock for country and too country for rock.
The funny thing about this video is that Poco played their hit song on a docked boat. The Flying Burrito Brothers took the boat out for a cruise while they played their song - check their RUclips video titled: Flying Burrito Brothers - Older Guys
Oh yeah, they do make music like that now. It's just not played on commercial radio. Try satellite radio, or explore the inetrnet. My latest find is Ryan Bingham, and Ry Cooder has an awsome album of western-themed music. I'm not normally a western-music gal, but these guys have awesome talent.
Anyone else notice that the announcer for this variety show is the voice behind all those drive-in movie concession stand ads that played between the double features back in the day? Hilarious!
I was a fan, in the early 70s. I'm wondering if Poco still exists? If they do, when do they come to Holland. On youtube I see video's dated "2004", sooooo.... come to Holland!!
That's the same John byner that 10 years or 11 years later would do the classic bizarre when Showtime was a pay channel and then became a cable channel This like a poor man's midnight special?
I beleve they were the Prelude to The "EAGLES" Yeah a shame they were never acccepted as rock or country. I have loved them 4 ever and if ya look, might see an EAGLE flying. LOL
Loved Richie Furay..
He gave off so much good energy and great vibes.
Poco an all time favorite.
Still have the album Deliverin..every track a winner❤

This is the best lineup, with Tim and Jim! Love the Tim and Paul Cotton lineups as well!
Of course Rusty and Jim, Tim and George all superstars❤
This is, very simply, the greatest country rock group ever. Saw 'em live in '72 and they were perfect, both instrumentally and vocally...perfect.
Who was the talent coordinator musically savvy enough to book Poco, Linda Ronstadt and The Flying Burrito Brothers ALL ON THE SAME SHOW? How wonderfully insane. Sounds like something Merv Griffin would do on one of his wacky "theme" shows.

eagles per loro sono un gruppo per terrazze estive, hihi
i bought the album in the 70s and still have it today, my cousin loved them and told me to listen to them,

May he (Meisner) rest in peace.
John Byner and Poco in the same place? I think I"ve died and gone to heaven.
Love the way jims acoustic sounds like the tele on the record.
How on earth did I miss this when I was 11? LOL What an amazing lineup.

i miss listening to poco it has been a very long time
My favorite Poco song!!!
I have this song on a 45 record that my mom gave me….love this track…..the bass playing on this song is amazing!!
Loved this song since it first aired and still do.. thanks for uploading this video.

Byner was going slow, till his new slacks comment. Off the wall, doubt it if it was scripted.
Richard Furay formerly of Buffalo Springfield was also a member . Country Rock at its best. Good Stuff.
great composite, in context! Loved this group.
Love this!

Awesome - thanks for sharing this.
Tim Schmit was the sound of POCO ... those bass runs are dazzling
John Byner used to do a show on Showtime called "Bizarre" which was an absolute scream. That show also brought us "Super Dave" Osborne...too damn funny.
Great song from a great group, never got the kudos they should have..
RIP Rusty Young
One word. AWKWARD. ;)
Messina - really, really underrated guitar picker, Jerry Reed style.
The Holy Grail of Yacht Rock...withe the actual yacht!

Maybe radio payola was still real then. Poor kids had only the radio ,no album collections.
It did crack the charts: #72 on the Hot 100. It went higher in certain markets; #26 in Chicago for example.
Supergroup!
Deliverin' was fantastic, and this tune is one of my all time favs, but the problem was that Poco didn't have enough great tunes like this one.
The Flying Burrito Brothers did a video just like this on a boat in 1969.
The Burritos boat video is from the same episode of 'Something Else' as Poco. Linda Ronstadt was on that same episode.
Cool Thanks. :)
It s like a National poco anthem for. me,!!!
Oh yeah!!!

Don't forget the Flying Burrito Brothers who were also on that episode!
This was filmed in August 1970

Poco is waaay hot & I have a major crush on Messina!
check him out on the video "thinking of you" with loggins. He's a dream!
\
If you do a search for "something else" and the Flying burrito brothers you'll find their performance for the episode.
a pedal steel guitar is always best on the starboard side says the coast guard. lol
haaaaaa. Timothy is barefooted. This is great.
Ass kickin' country-rock. Just as good as the Flying Burrito Brothers.
Thanks for sharing...would have liked a clip where they were not just lipsynching...but this was enjoyable too!
I'd also love to see the Linda Ronstadt clip!

This like a poor man's midnight special?
Timothy B Schmit looks so different now. Has looked different his whole time with the Eagles.
a little work done perhaps...molars pulled?
Druggy enough!
Great song as well
great video, where in the world did you find it?
Yeah croo
I beleve they were the Prelude to The "EAGLES" Yeah a shame they were never acccepted as rock or country. I have loved them 4 ever and if ya look, might see an EAGLE flying. LOL
me 2
what the hell were the flying burrito brothers?!
@mclenptp Timothy B. Schmidt
Not many can play the steel guitar
The 1st band I ever saw live.
Carnegie Hall...hmm, 1971 me thinks.
Ridiculously good lineup on that show. Mark Lindsay was the only poor choice. Loved Byner on Bizarre.
