Microtech used a thicker blade stock and lower Rockwell to help with the toughness of the somewhat brittle M390. The intent was to have a hard working tactical knife based on the Borka blades design. M390 has brand recognition for its flame as being a super steel. I have two of these in M390 from 2017. The first one is a DLC with full serrated blade and the second is urban camo with a normal grind. The serrated blade has never needed to be sharpened and I used it for a bout a year as my daily carry. I work IT so I’ve cut bundles of cat 5e and probably thousands of boxes. It has lost a little of its original edge but is still extremely sharp. Only reason I stopped using it as my daily was because I saw how much they were going for on eBay and couldn’t justify tearing up an $800 knife. The one in urban camo was not really all that sharp when I got it. I took it to a local sharpener and they got it ridiculously sharp. I carry that one from time to time but it hasn’t seen regular use. 3v is a great steel if you want ultimate in toughness. I didn’t know they offered it in 3v. I’d get a manual version of this knife but I prefer it in the auto format personally.
i know im randomly asking but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I love any help you can offer me
Its complicated, they definitely have advantages but I think the cons are pretty severe. Lock insert xm18s tend to fail, not that its a huge issue for most people but I've had some fold on me. Maybe I'll have to do a video on it.
@@SharpThinkingKnives I see, I've heard that it makes the contact with the tang more slippery and causes the lock bar to wear out to the other side faster as a result. I got a Gen 1 Hinderer Jurrasic as my first Hinderer with no insert and was thinking of getting a Gen 2 but I'm thinking I won't now
Blade play should fall under warranty, I buy snap on and they will warranty your pliers if the grips are ripping, they will also warranty if if you have a chip in the chrome... Im new to the knife game so im curious how that would work warranty one for blade play. Maybe there's a wear part that can be replaced?
They ended up replacing the part of the button that deformed from abuse if I remember correctly. Everything was serviced and came back very quickly given the work that needed done.
Almost bought one today but they wanted 430$ plus tax . I couldn’t justify it . I know it’s silly since I was willing to pay $385…. But over 400 plus tax kill my excitement as well as something just felt off . I left the store and they were like “ are you sure !? Because as soon as we put these online they’ll be gone in a sec “ so I hope I didn’t make a mistake . They let me play around with a ZT , wingman , and a spiderco and honestly all 3 felt better to me . Idk I’m stuck and can’t pull the trigger
I fill the same way. I ordered one from usaotfblades for $426 and didn't have to pay shipping or taxes. I figured it's about as good as a deal I'm going to get with these things.
@@patricksmatrick6193 yeah . It’s still on my wish list but for about the same price I got the ZT 0308 and the yojumbo black out with DLC . They both just felt amazing in hand . I’m super happy with my decision. I think if it had been a flipper or had a slightly wider handle I would’ve just gotten it . But I like the way a knife feels just as much as it looks . This one for me has all the looks but something was missing from the feel of the handle . I like fidget factor and this guy is open and working or closed and in pocket . That profile though !
2012 socoms are on a whole different level. They definitely softened up the steel on the new ones. I think overall the 2012 socoms were a step up in terms of function.
Not that anyone asked haha but I don't like when channels completely disregard certain products/brands because they're not being produced anymore, or not readily available for purchase (i.e. CKF). I get why, but there's still a secondary market. And lots of people still want to see reviews, even if they're not even planning on buying that product🤷♂️
Not going to lie I've always wanted one but if I had to choose I would definitely go with the socom over the stich but 14-year-old me really wants a hawk
@@SharpThinkingKnives holy shit you agreed with me everybody yells at me when I say that 😂 honestly if I could get a socom it would be the knife I carried Monday through Friday
Man I’m trying to restrain myself from getting a diamond g10 monkey edge sng for $750. I can get a stitch and PT for 33% less😂 I’m sure if I found a deal like that I can find one again, but still...
@@SharpThinkingKnives it was on reddit. That’s honestly a great price you had then, this one was scratched on the blade and all that. Some mfers try to sell them for $1200 😂 that’s so goofy.

Great video as always 👍
🥰🥰
Do you still have one of these and how have they held up? I just recently snagged the coyote tan version and I have the vanilla one as well.
Great video man!
Thanks man 🤘🤘
What a sick knife! I have to say though i would really like that in a manual version. That would be awesome.
A manual would sell out in seconds, I think it would be a great idea for all parties involved
@@SharpThinkingKnives absolutely. I finally need to get a Socom. That one has been a grail knife for me for almost 10 years now.
That green one is dope asf
Dang I been searching for a green or camo. So hard to find.

Love that green one. When I got mine they only had black.
The green makes me harder to see in the forest 🌲🍂🤣
@@SharpThinkingKnives lol. It's funny I have a 2 year old ,and whenever we out his camo shirt on I pretend I can't see him. He loses his mind. 😂
The blade grind looks wrong on the green one
Thanks now I’m wanting another monkey edge xm18. I sold one about 6 months ago. Regret kicked In immediately after seeing you pull it out.
