  • This video shows the US General hanging tool cabinet, item #39213, from Harbor Freight. Overall, I quite like the cabinet, even though it's not perfect. I cannot complain for the price (about $70), as any other steel cabinet would cost two or three times as much.
    Also shown are some cool ways to use the "free gift" magnetic tool holders from Harbor Freight.
    Thanks for watching, good luck with your repairs!

    Those are awesome cabinets. I have two sets and want more. The best part is that even though they look pretty shallow they easily take gallon size paint cans or glue jugs. Very useful, mine are loaded. For the money they can’t be beat.

    I’m working on plans for a budget dream reloading bench in my man cave and came across these cabinets. I’m going to use 2 of the Yukon boxes one with a drawers and one with doors then an 8’ butcher block top with T-Tracks and then 2 of these cabinets over the bench then I’m going to put a TV on top of the cabinets. Should be a pretty cool set up with tons of storage. Will be putting it all together this weekend.

      That sounds like a nice setup - looks like there's a 10% "no exclusions" coupon from HF this weekend, so you can save some money! I do like these cabinets, and recommend them. I don't have the Yukon, but it looks nice and solid. Thanks for watching, and have fun with your set up! : )

      Very cool -- I like the cabinet, and I'm glad I bought it. If you happen to have some welding magnets, it will make assembly MUCH easier (especially if you're assembling them by yourself):

    I’d been looking for a shallow cabinet like this and stumbled on it at Harbor Freight site this morning. I’d even drawn plans, complete with pegboard months ago when I gave up looking for a shallow one. I jumped for joy when I saw this. BUT, that non-standard pegboard hole spacing may be the deal breaker. I can’t imagine having to fight with that all the time.

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 года назад +2

      Yes, I know what you mean, BUT you can just bend the standard peg hole attachments just a little bit, and they will fit (that's what I did). I put the zip-ties on there to keep them in place. That said, though, I don't plan on moving my setup around, so I can see how the non-standard peg board space might be a deal-breaker, especially if you have to make adjustments often. I don't understand why HF did that, but I'm hoping that they will correct it in the future, and just use the peg board spacing that we're all used it! Thanks for the comment, and take care!

    • @maxglitz
      @maxglitz 4 года назад

      @@L35inColorado Just because I’d hoped they’d updated it with standard spacing, I called Harbor Freight after my comment here. The person there thought that the holes might simply be to reduce weight rather than be used as pegboard. We both had noted that promotions never really referred to it as pegboard to start with but just LOOKED like pegboard. And I would want to move things around a lot.

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 года назад +3

      @@maxglitz I would say that it is pegboard and was intended to be pegboard, because it does come with some peg hooks (it comes with six peg hooks actually that fit great). The problem is, where on earth do we find more of those special-fit peg hooks? Haha

      I understand! You can save yourself a lot of frustration if you buy a welder's magnet to use for yours corners as you assemble it, especially if you're doing it alone. I wish I had done that, because I probably could have gotten it squared better and more easily:

    Great vid - good details. I was thinking of geting this to store ammo. Do you think the shelves are capable of holding boxes of ammo (the steel doe not look super strong)?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 года назад +1

      Thanks, I'm glad the video helped! I think this cabinet would certainly work to store some ammo, but because ammo is so heavy, you'll reach the gross capacity of the cabinet shelves before you'd reach the cube capacity of the cabinet (ie, you're over-gross before you're cubed-out). You would just have to be sure to have good securement to the wall.
      According to the manual, the capacity per shelf is 20 lbs, and the cabinet includes 6 shelves. Here's the manual:
      manuals.harborfreight.com/manuals/39000-39999/39213.pdf
      As I mentioned in the video, the locks are rather dinky. They are better than nothing, but if you need to lock up the contents, then you'd need to create a better system than the dinky locks that come with the cabinet. Overall, I really like this cabinet and recommend it!

    Hi there.. great video.. i just bought this cabinet... a little project for me.. haven't really done much stuff likethis.. my question is i got some 2*4s to put on the wall into the studs ... to screw the cabinet into the 2*4 i got wood screws (with flat head - looks kinda like the gold fasterners u used) - will they work fine? - do i need washers of some sort??

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  4 года назад +2

      You'll like the cabinet, its a great cabinet! As you can see at 03:16, I didn't use washers: I used Spax construction screws (I think they are 3" #10), and you don't need washers for those type. I used many screws, to be sure I had it supported well. Good luck!

    If you didn’t want it to stick out 2 inches do you think two 1x4s would work?

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  2 года назад

      I can't say for sure - but to be sure, I'd lay the cabinet on the 1x4's and check the clearance such that I'd still be able to the pegboard hooks. What I mean is that I'd just make sure that the thinner board allows enough clearance from the wall (which would be the floor, in this example).
      I hope that helps : ) Thanks for watching!

    Nice job., I noticed you put the back panel upside down

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  3 года назад

      Thanks -- I put the back panel in right side up (same as the pictures on the website); there are some grooves on the back panel which hold the shelves, so you can use those to orient the back panel (05:27 shows the only place where I put a shelf). Those groves have to face up, like in the video, in order to hold the shelves (same as the grooves on the sides). Also, the key slots for the peg holes need the circular part of the slot on the top to prevent the holders from falling out. So, it is right-side up, though it is an unusual hole pattern on the back!
      It is a great cabinet, and I recommend it, if it suits your needs -- I would get another if I had the space for it. But next time I'd be smart and use welding magnets to help me get it square! : )

    Are those the $2 harbor freight hooks? My makita stuff fits nicely on them but they are slightly too big for my dewalt stuff. I was gonna try the smaller hooks from Home Depot.

      @L35inColorado  2 года назад +1

      I can't remember where I got the hooks, but I think they're the Hypertech hooks from Walmart. You can open/close them a little bit using a vice, if that's helpful! Thanks for watching : )

    • @L35inColorado

      I can't remember exactly (this was a few years ago), but I probably just reached by hand behind it (my cabinet is spaced a little off the wall). If your hand doesn't fit, then you might be able to use long pliers to grab it, like these:

    • @L35inColorado
      @L35inColorado  2 года назад

      Well, you used to be able to get the magnets for free - they were a "free gift" with the coupon, but Harbor Freight stopped doing that, unfortunately. The best time to get the magnets now is when they go on sale for $1.99 or $2.49, but I haven't seen them as a free item in a while now. I hope that helps! Merry Christmas : )
