    Solid thought process on the horizontal clamp storage. I've have deep parallel clamp storage but didn't really think the same way about F clamps. This really reinforced that. Also, brilliant work making everything magnetic to utilize all of those magnetic strips. Excellent work.

      @@neilphillips3193 Same here. Had already created a few holders but now am rethinking that

    • @RingsWorkshop
      @RingsWorkshop  3 года назад +6

      Most I had seen had always been individual, and granted it’s easier to move individual holders around than that massive thing, but the point is to rearrange individual tools, not holders. So this allows a lot of that.
      One piece of advice, use your miter saw to cut the grooves, not table saw. Too long of a board to use miter gauge, most miter saws have a depth stop. Made it really simple.

    This brings back some memories! I ran my furniture making business out of a one car garage back in the late 80's and 90's. I had stuff mounted everywhere! I had a panel saw that took up an entire wall, and even had pegboard behind that! I built some massive furniture in there, but it was definitely a dance 😉The very first iteration was an unheated 2-car that I had to share with a car so I feel your pain. Everything on wheels and stowed away when not needed! I and finally getting my dream shop now, but it's been many years!

    I love pegboard. Love it. Much smaller location unit, and fully flexible in two dimensions. You get more in a smaller space, so they are closed. Hand tools only! - but you can group by use, not size.
    For bigger stuff, you need ply (or OSB) walls. Putting a couple of screws in is fast, and you save all the time making cleats. Moving is simple, and you can locate them more accurately (not limited by cleat spacing). Totally agree with cubbies (moving divider shelves).
    Also consider duplication- I keep three sets of most popular drill sizes, one by the lathe, one by the drill press, and one by the hand drills. Saves a lot of walking and takes very little space.

    The best part of this whole series is the thought process. Thank you for that. One other comment is your dust collection system. You are taking expensively warmed-up air and exhausting it outside creating negative air pressure in the shop which is then equalized by cold outside air. I was actually shocked when I had my dust collection system in an unheated part of the building.

      Thank you for the kind words. The DC I haven’t had an issue with, as mine turns on and off with the tools. So only time it is running for long periods of time is when I am making repeat cuts on the table saw or sanding. If you did that a lot more frequently I could see it becoming a bigger issue, especially in dead of winter or hot summer.

I have sockets in roll about and have sockets over by my welding table/chop saw bench. I love your organization, better than mine, but I divide and conquer to cut down my steps. Just found your channel and I’m really enjoying your shop organization series. I like the thought process and ideas. I will view it multiple times and use it as a guide in my garage/shop. Keep them coming. Great job.

    I have a small shop….my wife thinks it’s too big….is there such a thing? Your videos are right to the point, that even large shops can adopt. I appreciate your creativity. My shop is small,but I have added storage in the air as you recommend. Please keep them coming.

    I thought the magnets thing was a bit hokey, until he took the whole set of wrenches off the wall in one move.
    Mind officially blown.🤯

    Never thought to use magnetic strips! I can always make something pretty later on if I get bored..but in my new space, I need to get stuff up and off the tables and floor! Shops can quickly turn into a mess if there's not a place for things

    Great use of a small space. I also HATE pegboard, so standardized on slat wall. But your french cleats are far superior. Looks like another project in my future. It's also encouraging to see you change something when it's needed (clamp storage). Next is a place to keep your Coors Light cold.
