  • Homemade All-Natural Deodorant // It’s heating up… finally! And while I love a good sweat in the summer while working outside all day, I need a deodorant that can keep up with me. I’ve tried TONS of all natural options and just haven’t found any I like… or that even work. Until I tried this recipe! I altered several base recipes over the past few months to come up with this one. It works!!! And it’s got all natural ingredients.
    Ingredients
    1 Tablespoon unrefined coconut oil
    1 Tablespoon shea butter
1.5 Tablespoons arrowroot powder (cornstarch works too)
.5 Tablespoons baking soda (decrease or skip if you have sensitive skin)
20 drops essential oil, optional (I like citrus, geranium or lavender)*
    Directions
Combine the coconut oil and shea butter in a heat safe container. Melt and stir. Add the arrowroot powder and baking soda. Add the essential oil and stir to combine until there’s no lumps. Refrigerate to cool for about 2 hours. Store at room temperature. To use, just rub right on your pits! A little goes a long way. *Note to consult your physician before adding essential oils to find what is compatible with you, your skin, and health conditions.

So truthfully, I've tried melting the ingredients, (same recipe, different person) and it didn't work for me, it was really oily. I tried a recipe with less coconut oil and more shea butter. It didn't require and melting and that worked better for me. Hope this helps someone :)

Coconut oil caused me to get swollen puss on my armpits that hurt like hell. I guess the oil clogs the pores. Lemon juice and baking soda is all you need to keep the odor away

Oil is the base ingredient of all cosmetics products. It's just a myth that they say oil clogs the pores, to sell their branded skin care products. I make my own skin care products and usually i love using sweet almond oil and extra virgin olive oil for my most products because I am allergic to coconut oil since a last decade.

If you bathe regularly that shouldn't happen. Did you replicate this recipe or just use coconut oil? This can also happen if you're allergic to coconut. Especially if it itches before the boils form.

      These people aren't correct...
Look up a list of comedogenic oils. The ones higher in the scale are the most likely to clog pores. Coconut oil is rated high (4 out of 5), so it's very likely to clog pores. I also learned this the hard way.
Almond, olive, and avocado oils are rated 2, so moderately low.
Castor is 1, so has a low chance of clogging.
Mineral oil (baby oil), safflower oil, sunflower oil, and shea butter are all 0, so they should not clog pores! Non-comedogenic.
I used to use safflower oil all over after a shower and it did not ever clog the pores of my face or body. :)

Nope, all evidence says baking soda is irritating and gritty for the sensitive underarm area. And it does next to nothing to prevent odour. You have to use magnesium hydroxide Or don’t bother

Magnesium hydroxide is not the only option. For people who do not have sensitive skin, baking soda is fine, but a better alternative is arrowroot. Arrowroot is closer to the skins pH and absobs sweat as well as it is antibacterial

Agreed. Baking soda does nothing. Oil is used in soap making but reacts with lye to create the actual soap. This is some crunchy bullshit. All this is will do is serve as a fatty paste with which to put essential oils on your skin - some of which will trigger allergies, some of which can burn due to acidity or alkalinity. I'm going back to soap making youtube. These crunchy mfs don't know anything.

Seriously, author of this video, how can you give people such unambiguous information that can lead to serious harm. Some essential oils are dangerous to use and telling the viewer to use a generic essential oil without warnings or considerations is highly unethical. I don’t usually complain on videos and let bygones be bygones, but this video needs to be taken down. There is too much to be left uninterpreted and can cause someone serious bodily harm.

Really should say what essential oil. some more irritating then other and 20 drops for what you used might be okay but for another essential oil could cause serious skin reactions. Anyone reading this please weigh your ingredients.. you can get fairly cheap but accurate scales from your local tobacco/smoke store and then look up the recommend amount you should be using for whatever oil you choose

If your sweat smells like that you can get many other smells to mask or overpower it. But to rid yourself of that smell you have to rid yourself of what’s underlying it which is the inner workings of your body. Nutritional, mental, physical, spiritual healing is needed. The smell, and all other surrounding problems will only grow worse without treatment
