    Thank you for the recipe and the option without baking soda. I just made 1 batch of this and can't wait to try it out tomorrow. I noticed that my 1/2 tsp of magnesium hydroxide was more than 0.5 gram, so I only used 0.5 gram, and not 1/2 tsp. Is the amount of magnesium hydroxide adjustable? E.g. if my 0.5gr wouldn't seem to be enough, can I add more? And how much is too much?

    • @BottegaZeroWaste
      @BottegaZeroWaste  3 года назад +5

      mmm it depends what you mean by gluey. It's supposed to kind of be a little sticky. You can add more coconut oil but it will make your armpits oilier which is not ideal! Or try adding a bit more shea butter - but it might become a little harder depending on the temperature you live at.

    So I tried this recipe, but I used lemon essential oil (for myself) and NONE FOR MY SONS, but I don't know if it was the brand of arrowroot powder or what, but after the first 3 weeks I started to smell more musty and so did my sons...what would you recommend? Should I try zinc oxide to get rid of odor completely. I heard zinc gets rid of odor like baking soda AND MY SONS AND I ARE SUPER SENSITIVE TO BAKING SODA AS WELL. I'M GOING TO TRY A DIFFERENT BRAND OF ARROWROOT POWDER, as I noticed a complete difference in smell to the previous brand I tried to use

    • @devilsdance280
      @devilsdance280 2 года назад +6

      You can replace arrowroot with corn starch. It’s been 8months SOOOOO how’d it work out for you in the end? I wanna get into natural deodorant too but I have stress sweat and baking soda TORE my skin up

    • @britt3343
      @britt3343 Год назад +1

      Try tapioca flour and powdered sugar. It's what the brand Sodawax uses in their deodorant and that is my absolute favorite and effective natural deodorant. That is what I use in my recipes now.

      @@britt3343 add powdered sugar to a baking soda deodorant? How much?

    • @britt3343
      @britt3343 Год назад

      @@bruinrose my recipe is 5T coconut oil,
      4.5T baking soda,
      4.5T beeswax pastilles,
      3T&1t tapioca flour,
      3T powered sugar
      27 drops essential oils. I bought some magnesium hydroxide powder to experiment with on my next batch instead of using baking soda because it is antibacterial and is supposed to be less irritating than baking soda. This recipe makes 2+ bars of deodorant. It has more dry ingredients than oil/wax because I like it in bar form and had problems with more oily versions staining my clothes. You could try decreasing the baking soda and increasing the tapioca and powdered sugar accordingly.

    My deodorant came out like a greasy cream.. :( What can I add to make it more pasty like yours? It’s already hardened & everything. Would I just mix it in as is or would I need to reheat the mixture I already have and then add in the additional ingredient(s)?

    • @BottegaZeroWaste

      It kind of depends on the temperature you live in, but try adding more shea butter to make it softer and less oily! You would need to remelt everything.
