it is great to know you enjoy this fantastic track!! it is the main goal here, preserve somehow motor racing history and enjoy it at the same time :) thank you
All you tracks (and the two formula junior cars) are absolutely amazing and I bought them all! Do you by chance also have rfactor2 tracks? AC was my favorite SIM for a long time because of the great community and the amazing mods (the graphics also!), but since I got introduced to rfactor 2 a few weeks ago, I can’t look past other games physics.. The physics and the FFB of rfactor 2 are just amazing! So much better than anything I’ve experienced in every other sim racing title! I wish we could get the RF2 physics and FFB with the AC graphics! That would be the sim of my dreams! But if I could at least some of you’re great tracks in rfactor2, that would be an amazing first step in the right direction!
I can tell how much effort you put into making your videos. You cornered a certain niche in the RUclips sim racing world that I love. There’s something so awesome when driving the older vintage race cars in assetto corsa. It’s such a raw experience.
I passed by this site many times when traveling to visit family. It's crazy how we could've had a premier racetrack in our backyard. This has to be one of the best videos on the topic I've seen.
Your content just keeps getting better, I'd love to see a championship with tracks like this, bridgrhamton, lime rock and their ilk, running sportscars through the decades.
Similar story and feel to Lynndale Farms Raceway, Peawaukee, WI. Only ran from 63-67. If memory serves they ran out of money but there was also considerable resistance from the neighbors as well. Attracted some big names there too. Is now a subdivision, utilizing much of the original course, with some abandoned sections in backyards, etc, with the abandoned stuff really getting tough to pick out in the more recent years.
@@sergioloro Outstanding! That would be surreal to see in race form. I'd love to offer more assistance but can't add anything beyond what's currently available online. The main historian of the track sadly passed several years ago.
My god, what a track. I had never heard of this place until Racing Circuits did a recent update and I am astounded at this circuit. It’s like Bridgehampton, Riverside and Kyalami all rolled into one. That it’s still there is even more astounding - someone has to save this place. It’s not well located but it’s no farther away from civilisation than the Glen or Laguna Seca is, and is actually pretty close to Des Moines. This is as good as any American track that has ever been built.
This is one of my absolute favorite tracks from Sergio! I didn’t knew anything about it, but it developed into the track that made me drive more proper and lead to me buying a good direct drive wheel!
That was exciting. We were at Greenwood in 1963 and 1964. Long live Greenwood Roadway and thank you God for us living in Iowa during that time. Having a slot car track in the basement just kept the dream alive. Surprised the Factory Vette's (Black) weren't shown Thanks for this..
G’day mate, just wanted to thank you for your videos, your content is second to none and has inspired me to get back to old school so thank you once again, p.s your back log is gunna take some time but loving it haha 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've been mapping out as many racing circuits across the US as possible over the past 5+ years off and on. It's exciting to see these tracks getting way more attention and being properly made in Assetto Corsa. I've been making rudimentary versions of abandoned or lost tracks in Bob's Track Builder and elevation data from making precise KML files, but many tracks already existed in rF1 as mods. I see that the creators of this mod are doing Marlboro (very excited to see this one as its tightness really makes BTB struggle and I never could quite make it work) and Vaca Valley (which kinda still exists, like Marlboro, but is in rough shape).
Great video. I just recently got AC after years in other sims after watching your videos. Got these and other Legends packs and am absolutely obsessed with these cars. The track looks amazing!
Jake, hats off once again for a great video. As a fellow racing history nut, I enjoy your content immensely, especially with all the background info that always make your videos little history lessons. Sergio certainly has a way to really make older tracks come alive with atmosphere, which is why I am happy to be working on a forgotten street circuit in my hometown of Brunswick, Germany with him. Seeing the track come life step by step is fascinating, and I can't wait to see (and drive, of course) the end result :)
Perfect as usual, for anyone interested if you type "lap of the world Greenwood Roadway" into RUclips there's a very good 18 minute video all about this track, enjoy.
The fact that the track and layout still exists to this day, as well as its proximity to a city like Des Moines, it kind of gives me hope that someone will buy it and turn it into a country club a la Thermal, VIR, NJMP, Monticello.
Wow what a great track this would of been to still have today. Has this guy made Meadowdale international raceway from Illinois? It's from same time period and suffered a similar fate unfortunately.
Somehow I’ve never heard of this track, but it’s very much a ‘rollercoaster’ track like many of its contemporaries. Now I wonder if there is a similar version of Mid-America raceway out there?
Didn't sound like he mentioned where Greenwood Roadway actually was, other than simply, America. Obviously American if the SCCA was involved. But it would have been a nice part of his presentation if he included exactly where it was located. Jake is a very good presenter, and usually includes some thoughts about the area the track was in. If I'm wrong, and I missed it, please don't be harsh. But I didn't hear anything, other than America. EDIT: After Googling it, found out it was near Des Moines, Iowa.
"The land has slowly been reclaimed by nature, with large cracks forming in the track surface and weeds and trees sprouting everywhere..." So it became Mirkwood Raceway? ... I'll see myself out.
What wheel /base set up are you using? I've gone to a DD1 from a CSL DD as i couldn't get enough torque in the corners. How are you finding the CSL DD ?? Love your videos and commentary . Your passion for and knowledge of the sport shines thru!!
I’m not crazy about seeing your real wheel superimposed over where the sim wheel would be. For me it takes me out of the experience a little bit. But everything else awesome as usual!
Another heartwarming GPLaps video. Not only you'd wish that you had done more laps. I love how you tell the story. The timing you have when talking is just great. Please keep them coming.
I was already into sim racing, (mainly RBR RSF, and AC) when I came across your video highlighting the Richard Burns Rally RSF plug-in. You have a way of pulling the viewer in, and taking a history lesson, if you will, into Motorsport past. You have completely turned me into a Historic sim-racer, if there is such a thing. Along with RBR all I do is play Gran Prix Legends, Power & Glory (GTR2), Classic cars and tracks in ASM2, AC classic cars in mods as well as RFactor 2. I'm hooked! I realized I have a modern modest sim-rig, but mostly play older games. 😄Thanks for all of your content and helping us all relive a time in motorsports history when our parents were born/young. 80's baby here.
Interesting video and to hear that it May have inspired Deep Forest. Looks like Greenwood is "Deep Forest Reverse" if anything. DF is probably my favourite from Gran Turismo, or was anyway. I've not played the softened up version from GT7. There is a bit in the forest where the camber changes very aggressively as the road turns, and it's utterly beautiful to behold a car moving through there. I did some cursory research and found Kazunori said he would choose DF if he could bring any GT track to life. Wouldn't it be great to get Greenwood up and running again. I feel like it could almost be crowdfunfed. Man I'd love to get the World Sportscar Championship up running again, with Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, Nordschleife, etc. I think there'd be a demand for it. Prototype and Grand Touring categories, old school circuits...& with actual Deep Forest Raceway. Amazing. It's good to dream...
Great video. Reminds me a little bit of Bridgehampton and Road America, but with a twist only the farmlands of Iowa could give it. Really hope we get more classic tracks soon. I'd kill for a Ontario Motor Speedway mod for AC, and maybe I might end up reaching out to a company that makes tracks to make it. It might be worth my time if it's within a fair price range.
I started a racing tournament thing, 5v5 cars on ten vintage circuits against AI, and struggled to find a US track that I liked. Watkins Glen has slow AI off the bat, so I think this is going to replace that venue. It looks like a wonderful track to drive!
That was SO great! Last time I watched you race I don’t think you had the awesome wheel and gated shifter. My gawd that looks like way too much fun! And once again, I been ejumicated - I’d never heard of Greenwood. Now I want to win the lottery so I can revive it!
That looks like an amazing track and only 25 miles south of Des Moines. It almost looks like a prime candidate if Penske every decided to expand Indy's reach
Probably the 2 tracks I most associate with this one are Meadowdale and Augusta. As for newer tracks, I might suggest Ozarks, and I want to see how Flatrock pans out.
Racing back then at that level was just so raw. It wasn't televised u were on your own out there with a car that u had to Man handle for many laps. Better times ...
Thank you for the racing AND the history lesson. I had no idea that this track existed, let alone proved inspiration for Gran Turismo's Deep Forest Raceway (I can only see it in parts). Sergio has done an extraordinary job. The snarl of that 289 Cobra gave me an eargasm.
My parents and extended family are from Iowa so I enjoy dogging on it for being a bit of a flat boring place as one living in the mountains of the west but I have to say that circuit looks amazing to drive with the rolling hills. What a shame that it never really had a chance to live a legacy like the other amazing circuits of the 60s. Going to have to download this and give it a drive myself.
Thanks for a great video, and this is an awesome track. I've been following racing since '71 and I've never heard of it, at least not that I can remember. It's a shame that it didn't flourish, but I can't say I'm surprised.
I think this has to be Sergio's best creation yet and I look forward to the rest of the track pack. I've tried recreating a USRRC 1964-65 pack and have been having heaps of fun racing at Greenwood! Great video Jacob!

Great sounding 289! Is that the sound that came with that car or dis you replace it?
