Great race, thanks for sharing. An interesting side note about the circuit is that it was one of the locations used in the film Rush, I think it might have been the F3 scenes that were masquerading as the old Crystal Palace circuit.
The little comment about the track: "over the mountains, literally" is quite comical. Anyone who knows about Lincolnshire (where the track is based) will know:- The tracks location seems to have been placed perfectly on the only hills in the county
I took a long break from sim racing after many years on GP2, GPL, NR2003S and iRacing. The thing that made me dust off the Logitech DFP and buy a new gaming PC was a RUclips video of Billy Strange racing a Caterham at Cadwell park on AMS. It was just irresistible. Thanks for reminding me.
Cadwell's been a favourite of mine since a league I briefly raced in introduced me to it in 2009. We were racing 70's Aussie Touring cars, which were a blast on that track. Great fun in classic Minis, too.
Ah mate your content is by far the best out there. The little history bits at the start are quality. Mate i would love to see you do a video on an old car/track.
Really hope LFM pulls some more interesting series out for multiplayer. A lot of good content flies under the radar! Try P3 or P4s on some of the medium sized Brazilian tracks.
Cadwell park will forever be a bike track for me. Seeing Toprak soar over the jump is one of my favorite things in racing. It's such a tight track with no room for error. That grass bites hard!
The G40's and the Mini's or any of the Copa cars are also a blast here, good stuff Jake. I really discovered/fell in love with Cadwell Park using the HistorX mod.
Yep, raced there for REAL....Ended up in the tyre wall on the second to last corner. If it rains earlier in the day, it stays really greasy under the trees there if you go offline to overtake as I did.
GPLaps and AMS2 is a perfect combination! Would like to see you back in some classic F1 cars, preferable early turbo cars if you wouldn't mind 🙂 But anyways, I really like your channel and just do whatever you like to do - I will be here watching ;-)
Cadwell Park is absolutely mega, despite its small size! Sometimes I wish it was a fair bit wider, so it could host a few BTCC races, but that may ruin it somewhat. If you still have that classic motorcycling sim and there's a version of this track on it, you just have to go for a spin on it.
I used to paw over the advert that Caterham put in Classic and Sports Car Magazine (UK) back in the 90’s when they offered pretty much this version and beg my dad to buy and build one.
This version of Cadwell is VERY realistic as is Oulton Park, British Superbikes regularly race here. If you look at videos you will see the bikes actually take flight over the mountain.
if you really want a beginner car, drive the Ginetta G40. that one drives wonderful and hast juuuust enough power to make your wheels spin in certain turns, thus will teach you throttle control. It's a lot of fun! also one thing I would recomment to every new driver, is to play around with the cars setup.
Cadwell Park has been in my personal top 5 for years now. It's just so much fun. I loved it in Project Cars 2 and I still do in AMS2. It's ideal for light lower horsepower cars.
Just tried this combo in VR and what a beautiful locale. While driving the Caterham around the track I imagined it was my GSX-R600 under me and what a terrifying thrill that became. Guess it'd be fun to putt around on an empty track. Sure it'd be suicide racing it on this tight, twisty track and its many blind corners. Now I hoping to find some footage of bike races at Cadwell to get a better feel for what it must've been like. VR truly adds a dimension to this game that can't be equalled on a flat (or triple) screen.
I don't know why but I absolutely adore the super 7 and I'm so miffed that the seven we got in Gran Turismo was a crazy high strung motorcycle engine thing that was a handful to drive there's just something about a cycle fender 7 that is quirky and sexy and fun and serious all at the same time one of my bucket list cars
Actually , Caldwell Park was one of my favorite circuits in the GPL days ... i had some very exciting races here !!! 😊 ( FYI - if this video was 3 hrs long , i would be clued to it the entire way !!! )
I always feel guilty watching your films. I have this game, have a wheel and pedals and never find the time to actually play them! Always amazes me how far we've come with thee games since Pole Position. That chunk of rubber bouncing off that car near the start really shows how far these sims have come!
This is weird, I'm the same as you with regards the Caterham... but between AMS1 & 2 I've been hammering the Caterhams this week. We differ on Cadwell Park, that's been a go to track since the Motorfx mod version hit GT Legends way way back when. Houston, the video has been LIKED... Over. .... tsshht.
brilliant combo mate im always on this track even tried croup c around here , dont know if you got one but if not your missing out massively without VR ,, try it you wont go back to 2d .. have fun 👍
Cadwell Park is as underrated as a track can be. One of my favorites at any sim, specially for bike racing (that is what is more common to race at the real place). About the Lotus 7... is a nice car in most sims, but never my favorite
Great vid as always Jake. I suspect the reason that the AI were clumping together is when you put them on Max aggression it overrides all the other behaviour settings in the AI file so they all become clones
Yeah it certainly seems so. I had them on medium aggression at first (as I usually do) and experienced similar behavior. So i'm not really sure what is going on but they really hate passing here!
@@GPLaps Jake put on High, in this way you keep the AI with different styles and high aggression, I also like to put the mistake multiplier by 5x, it's fun some of them making mistakes under pressure, missing breaking points, understeering in corner entry...etc.
It is like real Caterham racing though, most of the field covered by a handkerchief. If only AMS2 damage model was so accurate, with the marshals collecting half a dozen (glass fibre, not carbon) wings after a race (racers mount them with nylon bolts - then saw half way through them so they cause even less damage to the main chassis when they are inevitably ripped off).
@@donperinaracing8157 5x gets a bit silly at times, but in short races it can work for sure! In longer races 3x or even 2x is much more reasonable imo.
These cars on a more open track become a game of chess with drag being a huge factor. Being shaped like bricks nobody wants to lead into the last sector. I got into watching it when Chris Hoy (legendary Olympian)was driving.
I really love that you can no longer just wait for the AI to get to that one corner (or more) at every track where they used to just leave the door wide open, T2 at Guapore almost always results in a contact that turns into a spin of some sort for the car overtaking if you just fire it down the inside & try to beat the AI to the camber, which used to be essentially an assured position, or T1 Montreal the AI are now much more aggressive going into and through the corner and will sit just off the racing line enough to guide the player into taking a far too shallow line in which kills you when you get to T2 with zero rolling speed as a result. in general it seems like the AI are much better in cars with little or no downforce and are waaaay better at racing on tight & twisty circuits as well as street circuits, I do however think they are a little worse at recognizing when they've hit the point of no return and give the player all kinds of small but extremely disruptive contact as a result now, might just be placebo but sure seems like they're prone to overreact to stuff like my microcorrections or even just catching a slide which ends in the car behind me rear-ending me while all the other AI around make all sorts of little errors, only to go back to being great again immediately afterwards once things space back out a little. which tbf is not all that unlike what happens irl now that I think about it some more.
I should try this then. Caterhams, in other racingsims, were usually very bad to drive. Tailheavy predominantly and i never was able to counter that. Usually i avoid Caterhams in general because of this.
I think you should try to either purchase, rent, borrow, or steal one of these cars and drive one in anger in real life. I feel like the models in Assetto Corsa are REALLY REALLY close to how they handle IRL. Especially with Extended Physics enabled. I'll have to try one in AMS2 to see how it compares.
i dont know how the difficulty is ballanced in AMS2 but it's predecessor, Stock Car Extreme is crazy difficult at 105 upwards for me so...to see you racing at 112 and saying you shoud have upped the difficulty impresses me quite a lot
Watching your videos and even older ams2 videos has gotten me back into the sim but I just wondered what you set the ai to? Just max everything? Sometimes I find the ai weirdly defensive and they just push and shove😅
Yeah in my experience its just kind of the characteristic of the AI in AMS2, they love to ride your rear bumper. In general I usually run them at Medium aggression (makes the difference between most and least aggressive bigger), and anywhere from 105 - 118% speed depending on the track.
@ thank you ☺️ I will give those a try. Ams2 is one of the few sims I’ve enjoyed offline and online. I normally spend my time doing vintage racing on AC on Wednesdays so it’s nice to have another sim to do close racing on 😎
Man I just love the little history quips you sprinkle in with your race commentary. Sets your content apart and is what brings me back.
Great race, thanks for sharing. An interesting side note about the circuit is that it was one of the locations used in the film Rush, I think it might have been the F3 scenes that were masquerading as the old Crystal Palace circuit.
Indeed!
The little comment about the track: "over the mountains, literally" is quite comical. Anyone who knows about Lincolnshire (where the track is based) will know:- The tracks location seems to have been placed perfectly on the only hills in the county
I came here to say just that :) He must be thinking of the mountains surrounding the "Snetterton" circuit in the new "Senna" series.

There's a great onboard YT video from a real life 3-wheeler Morgan in a vintage car race a couple of years back, around this track.

The Formula Junior around Cadwell is great fun. The elevation changes really test the simple suspension.
