I thought he was gonna say Djent has become a meme lol
"There is the word Djent that's become a genre" and there you have it folks, Djent is a genre, not just an onomatopoeia.
No actually, it’s a technique. Just because modern metal bands down tune the lowest added string palm mute it alternate picking style in polyrhythms doesent make it a genre. That’s like calling bands that use pinch harmonics a lot “squeeeeee” and saying it’s a genre. It’s not. Get over it.
i died when you said Squeeeeeee lol
@@gibsonflyingv2820 so gallop and using only powerchords in E standard also it’s not a genre? oh but that it’s heavy metal in a nutshell lmao
Now it's an album.
Now that I've heard Misha explain this, I was totally reminded that Devin Townsend has been doing this since the Infinity record he put out in the early 2000s.
Been 3 years since someone commented here but I needed a lesson in the arts so thanks Misha
I see Misha is rocking some beautiful Bareknuckle Blackhawk pickups.
Drop C tunning sounds very nice and tight! :-)
That guitar sounds phenomenal
StuartMckay any guitar with a bare knuckle pickup can sound fucking amazing!
that and that guitar is like 4 000 by itself lol
its not the pickup but its placement rather. mayones are very particular with their pup placement, unlike many of other brands that just slap it miles off the bridge
Dude, i can hear your heartbeat through the pickups when you stop playing, through my earbuds. Real Shit.
Nicest Finish on a Guitar I've ever seen!
It's swamp ash
Actually, Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah was the one who used that word to describe that sound first, waaaaay back.
Damn his tone sounds insane
This lesson is quite clearly about palm muting and hand placement to achieve the sounds djent and purr.
Good idea. I find even pulling on the neck slightly, or holding it at a certain angle makes the strings go sharp, according to the tuner
Thanks for the vid Misha!
Hmm it appears that you're correct, however Misha popularised it and since Marten simply said it in an interview, the spelling could probably be attributed to misha, who used it on the 7-string forums if I remember correctly.
I'm glad someone got it
seriously! those are awesome, that whole guitar is killer!
That's why I said, "go with what works."
But thank you for straightening me out.
Unless you're practicing. One ought to be able to differentiate between the technical variations and, if naming them all helps one practice, hold them dear until they no longer need to think about it.
Great video. Thank you!
dude how the shit do you snap a .68? daamn
It's very very interesting. I started playing thin picks and kept moving up. Ironically I feel I can get the djentiest and most aggressive attack from the picks I play now which are .96mm Dunlop Gator Grips. I couldn't imagine going back to playing picks as thin as what Misha uses, and I think I pick relatively hard myself. Nowhere near as hard as Misha does, but I don't play lightly by any stretch of the imagination.
I think i did miss the irony. My friends always tell me that i use too thin strings and that i should use certain picks so thats probably why. and the video i was talking about just gives a nice explanation what is good about having a thick pick. In the end it is indeed just a matter of personal preference
They should have called the video "Totla Guitar"
@martvaein lmao ones called a palm mute and the other one is called a djent wich is the metallic noise when u slide ur hand up about a centimeter forward
May I please have your $5,000 Mayones??? I SAID FUCKING PLEASE!!!! \m/
That's a badass tone! It's rumbling the fuck outta my speakers
At axel heinonen , no pretty sure he means the palm mute being dragged out from a chord
Those Blackhawks sound great!
Mayones Regius 6 , I think it is a Regius Gothic , Misha has got Bare Knuckle Black Hawks in it .
The pick talk was great
he used to play thicker picks in his shred time ;)
Meshuggah coined the term, not bulb.
I think the style that what Misha and his contemporaries "invented" should not be lumped in the same "djent" basket as Meshuggah. No Meshuggah track sounds like what these other bands are up to.
Saving this comment...
Did anyone notice the coil switch has broken off.
Yeah, thats true. Usually when I hear "Djent", Periphery is the first thing I think of. haha
It's worth it, look at that beauty, she's perfect
its about a djenty tone not the actual composition of djent music
Chugging doesn't have the same meaning as purring. They're have different definitions.
what guitar is that?! i want it
Does any one else hear the "major chord" that he's taking about? I just hear a power chord.
He was saying it IS just a power chord but he messes with it a little so that it has a major chord feel. You heard correctly, just misinterpreted incorrectly, I do believe.
Cass Allen I think he's referring to the harmonics that naturally come out when he uses that technique. Stacked power chords like that will accentuate the harmonics and since the root and fifth are already represented it leaves more room for the major third harmonic to ring out.
Purr Metal. I dig it.
2 Minutes into the video, I realizes the Mayones had a volume knob.
is purr also going to be a new genre
what kind of guitar is that? wish they'd post the equipment in the info box :(
Well... he is Paul Gilbert...
Huh, the pick thing was very interesting actually
Can anyone tell me his tuning? I think it's drop C
ya
So there is:
Djent, Thall, Chug and Purr?
PURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
anyone know what tunning hes in for the 6 string stuff?
Dude..listen to that purr.
oh wow... If you only knew
What a tuning ?
What is the tuning?
he's good
+Rubolf Guitar na he just invented his own style haha
dude, you should read more careful, i DIDN`T say that it is impossible to shred with a thin pick.
i said that paul used thicker picks in his 80`s shred time which is OBVIOUSLY different from the shred he plays nowadays.. if you are a guitar player you should know that. please.......
DAT TONE
Djent is the sound of the 4 note power chord. there is no such thing as "djent timings".
Well he coined the term djent to describe the sound, nothing to do with the timing.
That's a Mayones
planetwave locking strap \m/
a Mayones.
is this drob c or b anyone?
ummmm don't think you can get Drop Bsharp bro lol
Mayones Regius 6
Drop B#
Ugh... Here we go. Now everyone will be telling me I'm lame because my pick choices are too thick.
Paul Gilbert could use a sheet of paper to shred.
He's talking about tone, not playing. Try any of his other videos.
It's all subjective and I think you missed the irony my friend. Search V-Pick review on my channel for why I think a thick pick is suited to my style. I didn't need anyone to tell me why. Neither should you. Go with what works.
"it has become a genre"
Welp, there you have it folks. Djent is a genre. (HURRDURR DJENRE)
What the fuck have you done to my homepage?!
Drop C, dude
search Guthrie govan alternate picking lesson and let Guthrie tell you and your friends why he thinks a thick pick is good
The finish on that guitar.... wtfcoolman 0.@
Dat fucking GUITAR doe.
Mayones Regius Gothic 6
It's impossible to shred with a thin pick im sure of it.
i learned absolutely nothing here from this video except for the fact he was playing in drop tune and That he has tuning issues ok whatever
Regius Gothic.
.....have you ever heard periphery?
I know you posted this 10 years ago. It's literally been a decade. But dude this is the dumbest question I've heard in my life considering Misha IS periphery.
. . you have two first names for a name
"In an interview with Guitar Messenger, Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor said:
I was looking for gear that was djenty. I was like: ‘Are these pickups djenty?’ For some reason it caught on, but completely in the wrong way, because people think it's a style of music and they think it's a style of music I play."
Hes so likable even tho he did nothing hahahaha
Weiß wurst
This guy xDDDD
Hahah you have no clue how good Periphery players are, do you ?
Also, Mayones is probably one of the best guitar companies in the world !!
I wonder how many thousands of dollars he spends on guitars.
LOL
purrcore loljk
im a big bulb fan but how the hell is this a lesson
Likes the sound you get when you really dig into the strings, yet uses the flimsiest picks in the world. What?
Fuck all these names,just play.
music theory jokes ;)
what the fuck
"i call that a purr"... oh nice i call that a palm mute
get outta here it doesn't sound like a major chord
Have you heard of Periphery? Come back and please tell me they don't have any skill.
