gr8 explanation. I have a 2001 model , it just shutoff while driving but would restart, but when it warmed up it then shut off as soon as load was put on the engine. It had no codes like this just looking around to what it might be. I was able to make it back 1/2 mile by disconnecting TPS and it idle at 1800 rpm but made it back. I really don't think its a CAM position sensor but the thought did cross my mind. I later did a quick clean of Throttle body and seemed ok, and the TPS according to my scanner was fine . but did Not drive much. I got back next week to see about driving it back 2-3 hour drive, after putting a new airlifter in. the one that is in it is very old. its at my son's college outside his apartment. we already replaced the car as it was was going to be sold and replaced next year in the Feb timeframe. this just made it happen sooner. Anyways it lasted 1 year longer then I expected. 2001 maxima 243k miles, been driven 41k miles on a falling transmission p0744 for nearly 4 years. if I am successfully driving it back. going to do some minor repair(s) for cheep and get rid of it. - seafoam treatment of throttle body. to help some of its idling hopefully smoother 13.88 - front break pads replacement free pads under warrenty - 2 rear quick struts ( cheep replacements, I got on amazon which were surplus autzone duralast ones and rebranded at Topaz and 1/3 the cost, I dont care if the only last a few years, its better then whats on it which is dangerously bad and will not be able to see car for much with that problem
When it comes to testing continuity/resistance where the leads go doesn't matter. I will say when you test voltage then yes black to negative red to positive. Also just another tip when it comes to dealing with harnesses, and testing continuity-make sure you are looking at the resistance value and not just listening for the beep-you can have continuity in a circuit even with a lot of resistance which in tale can cause problems especially with bad grounds.
i guess im randomly asking but does someone know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any help you can give me
@Layton Leo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Your 84141 looks just like my 84140 DMM. I wonder what the difference is. Made back when Craftsman was US made and of decent quality for the price. Best twenty bucks I ever spent on a meter.
Hello, when you test the cont. on the cam sensor, is the black wire from the multimeter connected to the battery (negative) and ignition is on ? Thanks
hi body, as far as i understood from the video there should be a resistance between possitive and negative pin over 200-2K ohm on sensor (pin 1-3 on video), but what about the signal pin(2) ? there must be isolation or a bigger resistance between them? (i'm just testing a dead cmp sensor) thank's
not all engines have 2 banks, this is a good way to test any cps. not a engine specific video. just common sense that if you have two, you will have to check both
we have a check engine code of P1275 which cannot be erased and a P0340 camshaft sensor. checked both the cam and crank shaft sensors but found no issues. would it wiring or fuse issues?
Eugene Carlos Check your timing. could be your timing belt is stretched out. Usually not a simple or cheap job but can almost guarantee that's your issue if all checked out. ( Harness, CPS, ECM ) Streched timing belt or timing jumping a tooth can also read the same code
DIYhowToFix IT. I have the same codes. Camshaft bank 1 and p1275. The car is an 05 nissan Altima 2.5... It starts but turns right off. Sometimes last longer on.
I like how you explained everything. I have one question. I swapped out the old sensor due to it leaking oil. used a new one from rock auto and installed it. then the engine light came on. I reset the ECU and when i shifted to reverse, it came right back on. I ordered a 2nd new one from rock auto and the same problem I had with the 1st new one I have with this one. When I checked the current on the wire harness when it's on, the positive for some reason forces the car to turn off. What can be causing the light to stay on? Also, is the car turning off normal when I check the positive wire on the harness?
CarsNToys also, I forgot to mention that when I tested the wires, the positive terminal on the battery and the black wire was good, but the white wire on the negative terminal didn't light up.
CarsNToys So yesterday before I left back to Houston, I reset the ECM and it stayed off. Once I made it home, I turned off the car and I unloaded some stuff and then headed to to the store. Well not even one block driving, the light is back on. I pull into the gas station and reset it, and its gone again. once I leave the store, the light turns back on. Should I go ahead and buy a factory camshaft sensor?
I have a 2000 Cadillac STS 4.6 Northstar that when I start out about 3-5 min. the engine shuts down. It will sometimes start right back up and other times it will take a few minutes of sitting before it will start. It doesn't do it after the first or second time of shutting down until there is a period of time that the engine doesn't run. I get several different codes, any ideas?
06 Nissan Altima 2.5 check engine light was on it said replace crank position sensor because the car cranks so slow I replace the sensor and it's still doing the same thing could I get some help
When checking the continuity, I get a reading of 012. Is that good? When I test the ohms on the sensor, I get a reading of 2.8. At this point I don't know what else to do. I keep getting the p0340 code and I am literally stuck and not sure what to do next.
+Cesar Serna I don't necessarily look at the continuity reading. I just want to make sure that there is continuity - which you can tell by hearing the audible alert. (2:43 into the video) Have you tried replacing the sensor?
CarsNToys yes like 3 times. All different makes. At this point I'm really thinking it's a wiring issue. I just replaced the alternator because of voltage issues and assumed that may have also had something to do with it but it wasn't.
mine had melted and we pryed it out and a small piece we can see it but can't get it out It didn't fall down in there cause I can see it I put the new sensor in right over that small piece should I try and get that little piece out I will have to take a lot of stuff loose but I don't mind i'm just trying to save money by doing it myself it's kinda bothering me cause I changed a lot of stuff out would hate for this to mess things up I have not started it but my scanner said that there are no codes and safe to drive but im not sure I want to start it . it all started with a cylinder 3 miss fire I changed spark plugs ignition coils coolant, crankshaft and when I got to the camshaft sensor it was melted could mean that's blown head gasket? it's a 2010 Hyundai Tucson 90000 miles never had any trouble with this car until now so I got my money's worth
i have a jeep wrangler and i had one of my camshaft sensors changed out dont know which one and my scanner say it is the camshaft position sensor b what does the b mean i have one sensor on the leftside and one on the rightside.
when i tested the connector it reads 027 yours read 00.1 does this mean my connector is bad? this was the continuity test on the connector. I'm baffled.
Hey I love your videos btw. But I have a question. So I have a Nissan 350z and I have the code for the camshaft positioning sensors. I took both out and cleaned them but my car still ran poorly with the engine light on. If I replace both of them. Will that honestly help??
P0340 could also be due to a weak battery. If the battery is okay and the harness connectors are in good shape, then the sensors would be the next thing to check.
I'm gettin a code p0660 on my 07 charger 2.7 do I need a new tuning valve or could it be the wires (bad connection)? Also I'm gonna change my cam pos sensor anyway even tho I'm not gettin a code , will I notice a difference using a brand new sensor?
3232myke It's either the tuning valve or the harness. Based on the year, I'd guess the wiring is fine and the valve needs replacement. If you don't have a code for the cam sensor then no need to replace it.
What kind of vehicle? I had that problem many years ago. The exhaust manifold was too close to the starter. I wrapped the starter in thermo-tec (try summitracing.com) and it made all the difference.
I have Infiniti FX 45/ 2004, just got back from airport/ Miami, was running like 4 hours, stop the car, went to store, 5-10 min, came back, no start, was cranking, starter working, but no start??? Never happened before?/ Somebody told me, "maybe" fuelpump relay??, the other guy said, camshaft position sensor. Took the code: P0340, says camshaft pos sensor, bank 1 or single sensor?? Is there two camshaft sensors?? Which one I have to change?? Thanks, when engine cools down, I can drive again....
hey... i have chevy cruze 2.0.. & today when i start my vehicle there sounds comes (tik.tik.tik) and i connect obd2 to check error the code comes (po340)Camshaft Position Sensor A.. still there is such sound and vehicle dnt start easily ... whats the problem is with camshaft ? need help....
+Ammy m If the car doesn't crank start by checking if the battery voltage is good. If the car is cranking, a bad cam sensor can definitely inhibit the car from starting.
CarsNToys Thanks for the helpful videos! You say to check the starting system first. I was told in the past that my flywheel was missing some teeth - could that possibly cause a p0340 to be thrown? Keep it up!
David Cardello CarsNToys I did not get a good continuity reading though - when connecting the black wire to ground, can I simply touch it to the metal engine block?
David Cardello CarsNToys yo! So I did manage to confirm harness plug and sensor are functional. Do you think a flywheel that is missing teeth could cause a p0340?
change the temperature sensor, thermostat, radiator, still warming up, and now will not start, that brings me to tree levas.y now I want to know if it is really that and if so where is it?
I paid 3k for a genesis coupe it cranks no start. It has code p0340. I changed the camshaft position sensors on both sides. No luck might be bad pcm or crankshaft position sensor. Someone help

Where is the Camshaft Sensor A Circuit Bank 1 located on that car?
Hello, when you test the cont. on the cam sensor, is the black wire from the multimeter connected to the battery (negative) and ignition is on ? Thanks

Liked the video but you did not explain that there are 2 banks what if a guy has bank one out and does a test on bank 2 instead?
that what I was saying to him. he cant tell people do a search when they did a search and found his video. That is not good
not all engines have 2 banks, this is a good way to test any cps. not a engine specific video. just common sense that if you have two, you will have to check both
