Cannot go wrong with Neil Diamond...has been such a talented singer songwriter. Has a beautiful feel of the story of the song. He is such a natural story teller, combine that with the voice and the emotion and you got the full package . One of the greats for sure. Thanks for a great reaction . So right...a great ballard

This song was huge when it broke out in '71. Probably my favorite of his. Who was this guy with that super cool voice? Neil is one of those artists whose music kind of lives in its own genre. Somewhere between rock pop and folk. An American original for sure.
Fun Fact: "I'm a Believer" one of The Monkees biggest hits, was written by Neil. As were quite a few other hits by other popstars.

That's not surprising, but I've never looked into which songs he wrote for other artists. What a talent!

Nice choice. While I am not an die hard aficionado of Neil Diamond, I have a lot of great memories of his album Tap Root Manuscript released back in 1970. Many great tunes on that one.

I did see Neil Diamond once back in the mid 80s. Although I do know many of his hits, I'm not so much into his music. I do enjoy though, your thorough reaction to the song. On to #3 😀

If you get a chance, listen to his album (yes, the term dates me) "Hot August Night". One of the best live albums ever produced. Back in the 70's I have priceless memories of being at the neighbor's house where we all used to gather, and listening to it on a seriously high fidelity stereo. Think McIntosh and Warfdale. Yes, i was blessed in my younger days

Yes, I have heard that live album title, but never watched or listened. Great memories....that's the beauty and time traveling power of music!! Thanks for watching Dan..

This song!!!! Neil Diamond wrote the ideal song explaining what it means to be lost , alone, depressed, feeling abandoned by God ( I Am ... Exodus 3:14) and generally feeling hopeless. He felt God was ignoring him, the psychiatrists couldn't help him and ge was so desperately lonely. In a beautiful twist to the song, the ending of this song has him crying "I Am" over and over. He never lost his faith, he only felt God wasn't there yet he still cried out to God " I Am" as the song fades out. Everytie he cries "I Am" its the equivalent of saying "Oh God!" And in the context of this song written by a man of Jewish faith, he's basically saying "Oh God im lost and alive and i don't know why. Where are you?" A theme that runs all through the Psalms in the Hebrew Scriptures he was raised with. His faith is firmly intact today as well and i have no doubt he realizes God never left him and was always there with him even though in his youth Neil felt otherwise. The same us true for every one of us. Gd IS there for us all, even though sometimes we don't feel him and even in those times He doesn't seem to hear us. This song is one i am intimately familiar with. It's my favorite Neil song but i also love "Play Me", "Hello Again", snd like you "September Morn" but also "Live on the Rocks" and "If You Know What I Mean".

He has a beautiful voice, but can get gravelly when he wants. A couple of times his voice breaks and it really drives home the emotion. Have you done "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show"? Wonderful changes of emotion and music.

This is my favorite Neil Diamond song out of ALL of his songs.. I've moved and lived in so many places through my life I've lost count, all over the world. But still all my experiences with the people in so many different countries I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks for reacting to it.

A very personal song which took Neil several months to write. Classic Neil Diamond song, like you said, and you can actually understand every word he's singing, which is very rare, especially these days.

Saw every Chicago concert. Was fortunate to see his 50th Anniversary concert, which ,sadly was his last due to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease!

Thanks for your thoughtful video. I've thought of mentioning this elsewhere but thought the reactors wouldn't have the patience for it.
Mr. Diamond wrote a soundtrack for a movie titled Johnathan Livingston Seagull. I kinda compare it to a symphony in several movements or maybe a prog rock album. I'll try to add a link to the full soundtrack. I suppose the whole thing might take 40 minutes or so but can surely be taken in segments or just one song at a time. Id say it will help to be ready to use imagination to put oneself into the head of a bird but still listen with musical sensibility. The best rendition I've found is in a compilation on RUclips in 12 parts. Ill go look for it now and try to edit it in here. ruclips.net/p/OLAK5uy_lelFztmiUGVIAvJvu3oFxaeSvEyFhp118&si=9mT_bZdYDF4idoAV

Hi Brandon, I didn't know this song and you made me discover it, a nice one! In fact, I am not familiar with Neil Diamond's repertoire, on the other hand, there is one that is close to my heart and which I discovered while going to see the movie "Jonathan Livingstone Seagull" at the cinema when I was 11 years old. Neil Diamond was singing a song there called "Be" which is fantastic. There is a video of this song whose images are taken from the movie and his voice is incredible. You should watch it, I'm sure you would love it!!! ruclips.net/video/CAWxp_fCTOk/видео.html
