One of my favorite builds when I started league in Season 5 was Sion with ZZ'rot and Banner of Command, with what could be considered the OG int sion build.
As someone that's been playing League on and off since launch, these videos are a lot of fun. It's so easy to forget that some of these things actually existed in the game. Thanks for putting these together.
Those items are inherently unbalanced design and once purchased, would be as strong how many champions you have within the radius. Considering the size of the map in League they don't want aura items whirlpooling the game down to 5v5 bubblewraps.
Riot should watch this video before releasing that new item with the minion buff. Because apparently they forgot about Banner of Command and ZZ'rot and what WONDERFUL additions to the game those were.
omg you are such a really good director and guionist. I can't imagine how much time of research it took you to pull out this video and not only this one, but every video about League's history, liked and subscribed.

Move banner of command to the runes and act like overgrowth. Every time you kill a minion your minions health and resistances increase. This stacks up to a maximum of 12 stacks and has a 20s cooldown. The effect only works around your champion. This could be a viable tank or fighter rune to replace overgrowth.
The nostalgia in this is insane^^ Reminds me of one game i had back in season 2 or sth like that against 5 tanks with TP / Fortify. Most disgusting thing i had to witness til this day
Yeah talking about tanks, i remember when tanks and warmogs was super meta, and we had one game against 5 tanks that got fed, literally nobody could kill them, they just trolled our team for like 15 to 20 min
Loved the video. I remember Banner of Command so vividly. I wonder if you're going to hit this itens: Leviathan Sword of Occultist Philosofer's Stone Heart of Gold Pick of Destiny Force of Nature (I miss this one so much) Innervating Locket (Go Guardsmanbob!) Zhonnya's Ring Madred's Bloodrazor Milady Void Staff Keep up with the good work, I think it's amazing to see this type of content. It's refreshing, but also nostalgic.
Still miss this item. It was a solid item in lower elos and a good build for toplaners falling behind. Such a shame it started to interact the way it did with Baron Buff after riot patched the baronbuff. Obvious solution would have been to just patch the baronbuff again or just write a single line of code saying that promoted minions can not gain the baron buff... but no they had to take the whole item.
I think ZzRot is chill but they removing that too I guess Edit: yo , guess what I just thought about, so instead of ZzRot being a portal you place down, make it a item where you charge it up like the current Herald then after 3 second it blows up like a Shaco clone and 3 ZzRot appears. Have the Rot do turret damage based on the ZzRot Current Health (Don't make it scale with Champion items, leave it at a fixed rate). So you can either CC the charge up time to burn it's Cool down or if you can't then hit the ZzRot so it doesn't reach your turret or lessen it's health to deal less damage to turret. And since it doesn't scale with Champion states then support can build the item too and it's a good splitpush item for Tanks and *cough* supports.
Probably Banner just gonna end up with description that says "Promote : Weakened Baron buff" You still get tower pushing without utter demolishing the balance while avoiding Baron double stack.
imo they coulda make BOC active replace minion with a buffed unit that cannot be rebuff with baron buff. The main problem of its removal is due to the range increase on the baron buff... the item itself, even with the magic immunity isn't "broken" when the cannon minion walks inside of the tower range and marksman can actually do something and tanks can cc it.
@@owdado8319 I don`t get why thats an issue, huge % of players (in fact I think most of them) are gold elo and lower anyway so it is still a huge part of the game.. there`s like only 1% that are actually pro/grandmaster+ players in the game so why only balance around that.. same reasons they reworked so many niche champs just because they were too out of meta even though many people actully enjoyed playing these weird champs and got really good at them
@@Darduel true, then I guess it'd just be a matter of Riot thinking too many cheese options is annoying for the players. And about the niche champs, I guess they want to make more champs more viable and sell more skins(? I do miss old Swain a lot. They prob could´ve kept old or legacy versions of each hero and few would complain.
Ironically banner Malzahar stat in patch 4 is an extension of the old promote voidling strat pre-season 1. The voidlings followed you could be promoted to a big minion and would trick the system to spawn a new voidling while keeping the big minion. So every time your voidling respawned you would promote it and would have a hoard of minions that can 1 man push a lane.
The Kennen and Vlad comps where you went double WOTA. They would destroy team fights and neither would ever die. They just had to use one ability if they got poked out and they would heal back to full lol
as a jungle main, I distinctly remember having to make the hard choice of "do I smite dragon, or do I save it for banner minion" and sometimes I would get flamed for smiting dragon instead of saving it for banner minion. It was not a good time for junglers.
This just shows how mych more fine tuned, but more restrictive, league is compaired to dota. Dota has an item like that, and its not at all broken. Mainly cause people figured out ways to deal with it, and the power level of items and heros are much higher. Dota operates on a "if everything is op, nothing is" model. While league operates on a "everything must be perfectly balanced" model. Mastering league is perfecting how you play how the devs intend for you to play. Mastering Dota is figuring out how to deal with every situation, no matter what it is. Which makes league easyer to get into and learn, but ultimatively just a 'copy the pros' in terms of mastering it. And makes Dota the better game for me as it needs some brainpower and thinking. Not straight up copying.
I'd play DotA if it didn't give me headaches due to the shitty graphics, contrast, and the screen being fucking zoomed in. Guess I could always go back to DotA 1....
I would love dota if the game wasn't intentionally hostile to players to keep it gritty enough for the old folks...Smart casting in lol feels just good, not having to deal with turning speed or learning orb walking. I would love all the aspects of big brain moves in dota or theory crafting a counter to my opponents on the spot if the execution wouldn't feel like someone trying to break my fingers with a hammer
I remember when this item sealed its fate. I was scrolling my Facebook feed when I came across a video LoL's official page posted. It was a video of someone using Banner of Command on a Baron Buffed Siege minion. It was stupefying to watch. Not only was a Baron Buffed Siege creep capable of shooting turrets from outside of their range, it was made even stronger by the Banner buff. This led to them just guarding the minion, it doing all the work, and pretty much the game ended without any real difficulty on the side of the victor because the other team couldn't even get close to the Buffed Winion without his team 5-man gangbanging them. And the comments section on that video was brutal (and hilarious). Its easy now to look back at removed items/abilities and go: "That's what killed it, that shit right there". But this was clear the moment it happened that BoC was done for. Reminds me of when DFG and Sigil of Silence were a thing (for those who don't remember this, Deathfire Grasp DFG was an 120 AP item that had an active that dealt 15% of the targets max hp in damage to it, then increased all subsequent magic damage to that target by 20%. Sigil of Silence is what Leblanc's Sigil of Malice used to be. It was the same ability, but with a silence attached to it). I remember a game where our AD carry was legit 19-0, then LB got that damned deathfire grasp (she got Zhonya's and Deathcap first) and everything went south from there. Beforehand, the AD carry could sustain herself thru LB's burst with lifesteal and autoattacks. However, this time she would warp it, DFG the ADC, hit them with the silence, and then delete the ADC before the silence wore off. It had no counterplay if you were a squishy champs. I remember thinking to myself: "If this shit happens in pro play, either DFG or Sigil of Silence are done for." Reminiscing over. Carry on.
I think the 70% damage reduction was a step in the right direction had they just adjusted the numbers to say like 40 or 30% i think it would of been a good item not to strong but not to weak at the same time
Banner with Heimer was so great, its bonus worked on his turrets... I miss building it, people thinking i was trolling then my turrets doing tons of dmg and people would be like "wtf"
This channel is just like a league of legends History Channel i love it. Now only a matter of time till you upload late at night about some werid league of legends conspiracy theories. like how all champions are just failed ryze reworks turned into new champions so no one will notice. its why some champs have the same skills. it all leads to aliens.
3:50 omfg i remember mastery pages and *actual* rune pages, not the stuff we got today. The rune pages where you had to buy that shit with IP, back before they deleted runes and deleted IP :(
Ik. They were op and took a while, but they were fun. It felt like you were progressing and getting stronger not only in skill but literal strength and it made a huge difference in gameplay between low ranks and high ranks.
What if the buffed minion (and to a lesser extent, minions around it) simply gained heavy damage reduction against other minions and turrets, but it can still be cleared fairly easily by champions. Drop it in a side lane when you predict a 5v5 elsewhere, and you are almost guaranteed to take a tower, but there is obvious counter play. make it so that the buff aura that the target minion grants to others doesn't stack, so your whole team COULD buy banner and drop it on one wave, but it would be a waste of a lot of stats. It would be more effective to have two people promote two consecutive waves in one lane or two simultaneous waves in different lanes. To balance it, you would just have to tune tankiness and damage. You could increase or decrease both, or trade one for the other so it doesn't survive as long but deals more damage, or so it will last a long time if unattended, slowly chipping away at the turrets.

I HEARD RUNESCAPE ELF MUSIC TOO
and the first music was jirayas theme from naruto
What expansion? I dont recognize it
What’s the music playing at 1:34
@@brdon2099 its a lofi remix, pretty sure like above guy said, a remake of jaraiya theme.
ngl, watching streamers using banner of command in season 8 was fucking hilarious. I enjoyed it while it lasted
I remember the imaqtpie game when legit every single person bought it, 5 banners vs 5 banners
You forgot that the 15% minion damage worked on Heimerdinger's Turrets. It was my core item when i started playing League and mained the Donger.
completely forgot about that.
i love that you are using world of warcraft background music from elwynn forest
WoW Classic soundtracks
Hey thats me! 18:21 I remember that game, it was brutal to watch enemy team completely helpless against one powerful minion, great video btw
Nobody:
5:37
Nb3: YO PROMOTE. YOU WANT 2 WEEK VACATION?
As someone that's been playing League on and off since launch, these videos are a lot of fun. It's so easy to forget that some of these things actually existed in the game. Thanks for putting these together.
I remember when I just started playing I always rushed aegis into face of the mountain into banner of command , good times
14:15 yeah, now its kinda wierd seend Zed not-oneshotting Kog-maw and dying on a towerdive
this video made me realized that a lot of aura items have been since deleted or removed (rip iron locket of solari)
Those items are inherently unbalanced design and once purchased, would be as strong how many champions you have within the radius. Considering the size of the map in League they don't want aura items whirlpooling the game down to 5v5 bubblewraps.
RIP bulwark
3:15 "less than one percent of you have even seen this image" but you put it in the video, a minute before that. so its like 100% lol
Riot should watch this video before releasing that new item with the minion buff. Because apparently they forgot about Banner of Command and ZZ'rot and what WONDERFUL additions to the game those were.
Watching this now, makes me amazed on how much have you improved your editing skills. Good job and keep up the good work!
And 1 year later the minion buffing part is back again with a vengeance
omg you are such a really good director and guionist. I can't imagine how much time of research it took you to pull out this video and not only this one, but every video about League's history, liked and subscribed.
"...Chances are less than 1% of you have ever seen this or know what this is"
I hope that was a joke statistic
Maybe not less than 1% but im pretty sure its less than 10%, since league wasnt nearly as known back then and many people have stopped playing since.
I doubt a lot of people have been playing from season 3, and are currently watching Exil's videos.
@@dweep9546 Some of us are getting shown vids from league youtubers now that tft is released and people are playing it like hearthstone youtubers, played back in season 1 till something like 4 or 5 and stopped, now playing tft and watching some league stuff.
been playimg for almost 2 years, never heardo fi t
I think it was a joke about all the clock bait ads "LESS THAN 1% OF PEOPLE CAN PASS THIS LEVEL"
The dude at 6:19 spamming "RAPE" in chat lmao
Actually Removing the magic immunity would have fixed it :D Or maybe 25% instead of 75% damage reduction.
they hotfixed nerf the damage reduction from 70 to 40 before they removed it, also they nerfed the damage stacking from the baron buff
6:23 that guy typing in all chat would have gotten 2 weeks vacation by today's standards XD
2021 Update! Hullbreaker seems to be their new take on the “Banner of Command” concept. It looks fantastic. Fingers crossed!
:)
I wonder if you're going to hit this itens:
Leviathan
Sword of Occultist
Philosofer's Stone
Heart of Gold
Pick of Destiny
Force of Nature (I miss this one so much)
Innervating Locket (Go Guardsmanbob!)
Zhonnya's Ring
Madred's Bloodrazor
Milady
Void Staff
Keep up with the good work, I think it's amazing to see this type of content. It's refreshing, but also nostalgic.
5:37 "Promote got a 2 week vacation"
Did TF Blade call his friend at riot?
EDIT: I meant Nightblue3 not tf blade
Dave poj tf blade ???
Still miss this item.
It was a solid item in lower elos and a good build for toplaners falling behind. Such a shame it started to interact the way it did with Baron Buff after riot patched the baronbuff.
Obvious solution would have been to just patch the baronbuff again or just write a single line of code saying that promoted minions can not gain the baron buff... but no they had to take the whole item.
Oh my God I fogot entirely Promote was a summoner spell! God the memories!
I think ZzRot is chill but they removing that too I guess
Edit: yo , guess what I just thought about, so instead of ZzRot being a portal you place down, make it a item where you charge it up like the current Herald then after 3 second it blows up like a Shaco clone and 3 ZzRot appears.
Honestly you have some of the highest quality league vids on youtube keep it up!!!
Im glad thank you!!
Probably Banner just gonna end up with description that says
"Promote : Weakened Baron buff"
You still get tower pushing without utter demolishing the balance while avoiding Baron double stack.
Sure it wasn't balanced but it was such a fun item
i agree it was fun
18:40 - one question: I thought Stattik Shiv deals magic dmg. So how were they able to damage the empowered minion?
It also did physical dmg
That Elwynn Forest & Stormwind music in the background tho.
I really love the concept of promote, empowering minions. There are no other items or skills could do that in nowadays.
The quality of your videos is amazing
imo they coulda make BOC active replace minion with a buffed unit that cannot be rebuff with baron buff.
The main problem of its removal is due to the range increase on the baron buff... the item itself, even with the magic immunity isn't "broken" when the cannon minion walks inside of the tower range and marksman can actually do something and tanks can cc it.
2022: *belveth released*
A Zz'rot as champion itself
12:12 yeah that 200 magic resist mishap kinda threw me off while i was listening cause i went "wtf kind of busted sht is that"
didnt know this channel. nice narrative and good content. subscribed!
Thank you man
18:10 Why is the Barrens music going on in the background?
Season 3 was my baby and look how they have massacred it.
Not really but I do miss s3 it was so fun and I had so much more time to play
So much more time to do everything.
So what rank are you then and now?
Ace Shadow why did you bring rank here? The games are made for fun,so he was having a lot of fun with it
18:14 why do I hear Elwynn Forest music from WoW?
Unpopular Opinion:
Rito should bring back Surge and debatably Promote to bring back different play styles
True, but they are more likely to remove some more items, like it was, for example, with a sightstone or shielding support item
This would most likely create some cheese strats that would only ever be played below gold elo
They literally just had to reduce damage taken from AoE abilities.
12:12 “200 health and 200 magic resist”
riot: who tf
"The Cobra Effect" *Riot, every time they try something new*
i miss this item so much. my fav was the baron cannon and giving it atkspd with old nunu buff
I don't know why but I regret the old triforce that was giving crit chance
I lowkey still sometimes forget that it doesn't have crit anymore
you mean "miss the old triforce"?
Or the ap. Oh man I miss sheen's ap
A lot of work has been made for this video. A masterpiece was created, a like you deserve. Congrats
Man, will of the ancients, that brings back memories, I remember when that was a 100% must on Mord without it he was trash.
that was my favourite item when i just got into the game, rip my nostalgia
The Kennen and Vlad comps where you went double WOTA. They would destroy team fights and neither would ever die. They just had to use one ability if they got poked out and they would heal back to full lol
Nostalgic WoW music + Old league problems 😪😪
You got my sub.
Banner of command, zzrot portal in bard or nunu was so much fun.
(sorry for bad english)
as a jungle main, I distinctly remember having to make the hard choice of "do I smite dragon, or do I save it for banner minion" and sometimes I would get flamed for smiting dragon instead of saving it for banner minion. It was not a good time for junglers.
*looks at thumbnail* BROTHER MAN, BANNER OF COMMAND WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST ITEM OF ALL TIME
Ian McDonald when did they remove I took like a year break and came back and suddenly my favorite item was gone
Brand account name somewhere around June 2018 in patch 8.12
Let’s also not forget about the item that when used disabled turret for 3 to 5 second.
Now only a matter of time till you upload late at night about some werid league of legends conspiracy theories. like
how all champions are just failed ryze reworks turned into new champions so no one will notice.
its why some champs have the same skills. it all leads to aliens.
17:57 oh thanks, now I want to play WoW again lol
