- Netflix brings us their newest horror thriller Bird Box. Sandra Bullock leads a post-apocalyptic journey of what it means to be alive. Is it enough to simply survive or is there more to life? While Bird Box asks these questions, supernatural creatures cause mass suicide and hysteria, survivors have to keep their vision impaired to navigate and survive their new world.

I felt bad for John Malkovich character who kept saying everything was a mistake and ended up being right. He was hilarious
Mr Hat Movie Reviews yup he was right , those are the best characters like in hindsight he was right and would be alive if the group listened to him 😆
He was maga
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can give me.
@Julien Keegan Instablaster :)
The only thing I learned is to listen to your elders. The old bald guy was the voice of reason yet was ignored which caused alot of casualties.
That's ageist.
So glad you mention the supporting cast. Such Well rounded acting that kept me on edge with feeling their terror.
The thing is that Bird box was based on a book that came out in 2014, whereas A quiet place was a completely original film, so if anything a quiet place copied Bird box
With the naming thing - I think the point is that Sandra Bullock’s character never named the children because she couldn’t allow herself to do it as she had to focus on survival. Naming the children might lull her into a false sense of domesticity, which might endanger them all. So by sticking to the bare necessity (Boy/Girl), she could focus on helping everyone survive. And when they finally reach a safe place, she allows herself to be sentimental and to name them.
Also, she never wanted children in the first place.
I think all three of you are right but I also thought she didn't name them so she wouldnt get too emotionally attached because they might die and it would be harder to live down...or some shit
@Move_I_Got_This Damn straight it's borderline sociopathic.
Movies these days love to portray motherhood at best as an inconvenience and bump on the road for otherwise strong independent women to work around if not outright neglect if they couldn't abort...
My interpretation of Sandra's character not naming the children was that the "entities" would use their name to torment them I.E. they call out to Malory throughout the entire film by name. They ever called to the children.
Jasper Grau I like this theory
This reminds me of the happening and a quiet place mixed
Wowwww so original.. u were the first person to mention this 😮
And "The Mist"
Simeon Real damn dude thanks for the recognition I appreciate it 🤭
At least the happening made sense, This was garbage.
@@Backyard-yz3mf "At least the happening made sense"
Bitch, where? Lmao. Get the fuck out.
Bird Box is also based on a novel that was published in 2014. That’s long before A Quiet Place entered production.
I was going to say this 💯
Pretty sure that’s common knowledge, but quite place is just a better movie than it so that’s why people are comparing
I don't think A Quiet Place was better in any way. Also the book was fantastic. It was a little more brutal. The scene with Victor, the dog... really horrifying.
Kris G at the end of the day whatever I like and whatever you like is just an opinion . Opinions don’t matter , but numbers don’t lie . The ratings (by both audiences and critics alike ) are higher for a quite place . It made more money with a lower budget . Number don’t lie . Also , I’m sure the book was amazing but the movie doesn’t do it justice .
Anthony dominguez we can argue about movies all day long. I just get tired of people calling this A Quiet Place rip off since it’s based on source material that came out before A Quiet Place entered production. I feel bad for another author named Tim Lebbon who wrote a novel called The Silence, that got filmed into a movie last year. That novel has a VERY similar premise to A Quiet Place, even though the movie is a Canadian production that was filmed before any news about A Quiet Place, it’s gonna be called a rip off. This was Tim Lebbon’s first movie adaptation, and it’s gonna be called a rip off.
Sandra Bullock was never an actress I cared about, but she looks like she's at home in the Horror genre.
Julian Salgado I feel the same way. She should do more horror and sci-fi movies. We have enough action stars.
She did really well I have to agree
Check out the movie “murder by numbers” if you haven’t seen it. Not horror more like “suspense” but she’s a cop investigating a murder done by two highschool kids. Great movie.
Bird box was based on a book that came out before the quiet place and the happening so they didn’t copy their idea
Loved the review man. I may be one of the actual few who thought this movie was BETTER than "A Quiet Place" Just my personal opinion but I had much more fun watching this movie than "Quiet Place"
I like it better that A Quiet Place
Agreed!
I still don't get why some people are hating on this movie. It's not a ripoff of 'A Quiet Place', despite the similar premise. It's way better than The Happening (love what you said about that movie Cody, that the best way to approach that movie). I enjoyed the movie just as much as you did Cody. It's a nice post-apocalyptic that hold it owns with excellent acting from Sandra Bullock!
May you and your family have a safe and Happy New Year Cody!
A buddy at work told me I should watch Bird Box. I asked him why and he said because it's exactly like the Happening but if it had been made by a competent filmmaker and didn't suck. I watched Bird Box and.. yup. That's it. It's a parallel universe version of the Happening in which it was made into a really good movie. I loved it. I really liked the fact that you never saw the monster or found out why it happened.
M night is a competent filmmaker, everyone has a few flops here and there...
Agreed
This movie sucks man
Fish Staink - it certainly is polarizing. Literally split down the middle. Half the people who see it love it and the other half hate it. There seems to be no middle ground. I get why people like you hate it. I can see your points. But I enjoyed it.
inkmeal but he raised no points?
I didn't see Bird Box but A Quiet Place is EASLY one of the best family horror movies i EVER saw! Don't remember the last time when i cared so much about some characters and the idea of beeing unable to make a sound would drive me crazy in max 3 days! Might not be the scariest horror movie but giving birth to a child with a creature in the same house with you? Now that's tension! I have waited for Venom, Slender Man, Halloween, but A Quiet Place made me so invested that i jumped at every noise and literally holded my breath MYSELF! I didn't have any expectations but was VERY surprised!
Nice to see Fright Night in the background, one of my favourite vampire movies.
I just finished watching Bird Box on Netflix. I loved it! I thought it was a really good movie.
Agreed glad you enjoyed it
You missed the point she never named the kids because she didn't want to fall in love with them, her forcing herself to never name the kids is her way to cope if they ever die. Also its her way to tell herself she doesn't care about them even though she clearly does. The same thing happens to mothers that have miscarriages when they leave the babies room all set up even though they know the baby isn't coming home its just there way to cope. I think it was very well done.
Great review of Bird Box Cody I found this a intense horror with good performances by the cast, my only quibble which you hilariously picked up on was that GPS driving sequence I mean it jumps the shark & beggars belief & took the tension out the movie because it was so ridiculous, barring that a quality psychological horror flick.
Very similar movie to the happening
It took me a while too see a good review of this film from someone who clearly knows what he is talking about and has seen a lot of films but I have found it. I'm subscribing
I wouldn’t even have kids in a pre apocalyptic world, let alone a post apocalyptic world. 💁🏾♀️
A couple more logic issues is how the kids survived with that wipeout from the rapids since they never learned how to swim and how the birds still remained in that box unharmed. Overall the movie was good to watch.
I love your A Goofy Movie Powerline shirt. Thanks for helping people see eye to eye on this movie.
Ahhhhhh...my man
Looks like Cody was able to STAND OUT...above the crowd...even if he has to shout out loud
But they can't.
Sandra needed a compass to get done the river. It is a bit unbelievable she can get that boat done the river without a compass.
Cody it's TheMovieDoc again. Just had it on my laptop yesterday and I thought it was good, haven't watched it yet though. Great review as always!
On the car scene, I would have liked to have seen them use the string to map the way to the store, but it gets mapped with string by them going out and moving cars to clear the street while blind folded.
Great review. Similar thoughts to mine in the review I did. Keep up the great work!
Cody - just watched this last night the same way you did. Saw it pop up and though "Hmmm, I'll check it out!" I was pleasantly surprised. A good thriller that kept me interested although it did feel a little long near the end.
Glad you’re doing more reviews and different types of movies
Yeah this dude is solid. I got to get my contact like that.
Monu_ _Mental if you love it you can do it just learn and keep working
@@TracyGotGame better believe it!!! ✌️
Great review son. Spot on
Thanks dad
That is a serious 90s throwback T shirt. Love it!
Damn right
Amazing movie! It really irritated me that people were trashing this movie because "you can't see the entity" but I think that added to the suspense. I think it was top 5 horror movies of the year right up there with Halloween 2018 (which was disappointing but still a great movie) and A Quiet Place
ReelinWithReed exactly! The best example I can give is jeepers creepers. That movie was pretty scary .... until they showed the demon... and then it was less scary... I think in some of these horror flicks that less is more for sure. I agree not seeing it added to the suspense
@@jos2578 When did they show it?
When jeepers was cornered by the cops
@@jos2578 oh right right ofc
Idk man honestly I like the look of the creeper. But I can understand what you mean.
Yep, GPS scene was ridiculous. At least if it was a Tesla it would have made more sense.
Just watched Bird Box and i agree with ya!!! It was a very good movie!!! You where spot on with your review as ALWAYS!!!!
!! They didn't name the kids because the monsters would call out their names to try and get them to take they're blindfold off. But that's also an issue bc if these kids are known as boy and girl the monsters could just say "boy, take off your blindfold"
I’m a little late to your review by 5 years lol. You’re probably my favorite movie reviewer, but I gotta fall bullshit on “it wasn’t on my radar and I knew nothing about it…” yeah, literally everyone knew about this. It was memed to death, I promise that a RUclips movie reviewer most certainly knew about it. No need to hide that bro.
I really enjoyed the past scenes with everybody in the house it also would have been nice to see how they got to the woods
Awesome work by everyone Involved! Loved this film what a surprise! It may be on my top 10 of the year. Halloween 2018 at the top tho
When i warched it i pissed ma pants in the dark by myself
Cool
instant like just from that thumbnail alone! Good review too bro..
This review is good and everything but Cody where did you get that fantastic Powerline shirt???
Target
Cody when are you releasing best movies of 2018? I love those videos they have helped me discover some great films
best part was when the guy they let in killed all the people in the house . “Show your baby “, that’s it. 2/5 for me .
Great review man I gotta get like this!
also, she already knew there were people at the institute for the blind when she was on the boat, that's the whole reason she got on the boat in the first place, so why was she still using the walkie-talkie to try and find people?
Literally on the related searches it says “ everythng wrong with a quiet place “ lmao
I enjoyed this film. My theory as to why she didn't give the children names was to keep the entity from using first names against them to sway them to look. Just my thoughts
Cody, I really like the movie! But, Loved your review!! U Rock!!! :)
I definitely agree about the GPS scene... no way that would work. It was a cool idea and a tense scene though.
An average movie with a bunge of „classical“ scenes:
1.) People freaking out on the streets
2.) a group hiding in a house
3.) the newbie destroys the group
4.) fight and separation of loved ones
5.) dangerous river
Etc. Etc.
left my bored 😐 sadly
Lol your shirt is exquisitely nostalgic ❤👌🤗🤗
Been hearing a lot about this movie. Guess I am gonna have to check it out. I am curious to know how much I will like it because I am one of the rare people who actually like "The Happening", and not as a comedy. That's why I clicked on this link before seeing it. I just didn't even know what it was about really. Looks good to me. I will post if I liked it or not.
I also loved the movie, think it was a great suspense watch, I just wish they explained a little more about the entity, how they work, the followers etc. I'm fine with a mystery and not knowing everything, but also we have speculations about the entity that's it., Oh and one scene that i found was unbelievable is where she tells ( the girl) you don't try and save me you just go. and I'm like you do realize she is 5 years old in an unknown location and blindfolded, there is not much she can do alone. I Do get mother instinct in keeping them alive but still.
The way you review it makes me want to watch it.
I love the Powerline shirt
Great review
There were a lot of unanswered questions in this movie that could be explored with a different group in tv series. I thought it was good
I loved this movie, It reminded me more of a better version of "The Happening". Although I love "The Happening", seriously. I like "Birdbox' better then "The Quiet Place".
This movie is more like the happening and NOTHING like a quiet place when it comes to taking it self seriously
Bird box was also based off a book written before the quiet place
netflix has a spotty record??? this movie was fantastic, the babysitter i loved and hush was amazing!!!
I watched this and didn’t quite remember what happened to Felix and Lucy, did they die? Other than that I think it was a good movie. Great video Cody!
Really enjoyed this movie but i feel as if some things are far fetched and as i watched it a second time with dad he believed so too, but great review
Cool review, I just watched Bird Box by recommendation from a co worker. Not a bad movie but a lot of things made me as irritated as the GPS scene, you mention.
The one guy who has the keys to the grocery store not only ends up at the house where they are, he still has his work vest on?? Really?? Okay. Maybe he can go back to the store since he made it to the house fine. Wear a blindfold, walk there and push a shopping cart back.
The first scene of the movie is Mallory teaching the children the rules of the game. Under no circumstances, remove your blindfolds. They are five years old at this point in the story. How did they make it that far without knowing what's up? You would think that by the time they could walk and talk, they would know that they can't go outside and they have to keep their blindfolds on, but, five years later, she finally explains how this works. Okay.
The scene where Tom kisses Mallory and they have sex...what? Five years later? It really plays out like that was the first time they shared a tender moment. Maybe I wasn't paying attention.
The scene where John Malkovich wants to stay at the store and live there...why did he go back to the house with them?? They make the scene about how Mallory isn't an asshole so, she wants to go back to help everyone. That's great leave him at the store!
Anyway, I think that rant was long enough.
Oh, wait...my other issue with it....HOW DID ALL THE BLIND PEOPLE GET TO THAT SCHOOL??? Obviously they were there before the phenomenon happens at the beginning but did they have to take a boat ride down the river to get there?? How did that doctor get there? Why is she even there?? Oh, because she was someone from the beginning of the movie.
I'd like to add some more things that I hated about Bird Box. How about that car accident scene, near the begging? Car flips over and lands upside down. Mallory not only climbs out without a scratch on her, she gets knocked over and lands on her stomach. Okay, I could see how the baby would be fine. Makes total sense.
Can someone explain why those two women went into labor at the exact same moment? I didn't get that. What was that about?
There were a lot of things I liked about Bird Box. But, I think it is one those stories that really would have benefitted if it was a limited series rather than a feature length film. The book it is based on is 262 pages and it feels like they were trying to cram the book into those 2 hours. Some things just felt underdeveloped and rushed. That being said, the performances are really good and I would watch a sequel if they decided to make one. Enjoyed your review!
What about the canaries surviving in the river?
Hey Cody you should do a review for "Dead Silence" i loved that movie🤔😅
Yay another video !!!!
I have this movie 21st out of 33 movies that I watched this year so far. I generally love this movie. I wasn't bored with movie. The reason why not high on my list is because the back of fourth of the past and present day. If you just did it in chronological order. It will be a damn good movie. 2nd reason is because I didn't like when Machine Gun Kelly and that girl dipped out. 3rd reason is the kids was named boy and girl. 4th and final reason is the ending.
TheBadassNinja the kids name being boy and girl is realistic, it’s a survival thing and their names change at the end. The ending was a bit shit though.
the ending was bad when they got to the safe place, but leading up to getting there was amazing and exciting, also I love the names for them it’s just so funny
Me and the wifey laughed throughout the movie best comedy of the year :) the hot rod fall scene was hilarious too :p
When I watched the trailer I thought it had a quite place vibe but when watched the film it's nothing like the quite place very different really enjoyed this film nice surprise
Great review. I enjoyed the film. Great performance by Sandra Bullock.
I really liked this. It wasn’t perfect (like you said, some logic issues) but it was really engaging and fun to watch, which I think was achieved in part by the non-chronology. In my opinion much better and more believable than a quiet place
Good movie. A little overhyped but I enjoyed it.
Yeah I saw it before the hype luckily
Sounds pretty cool, I'll check it out sometime. Thanks Cody.
On Cody's behalf: you're welcome
It was ok. I thought all the parts in the five years before we’re good, but that part in the forest right before the end was just an awkward mess.
What about how it can't go inside even though the door in the grocery store was wide the f@#$ open.
>If you cant enjoy your kids-
FBI, OPEN UP
The only problem i had with this movie is that is spoils itself with the flashforward scenes i knew everyone else died lol
My first impression was A Quiet Place meets H. P. Lovecraft. I enjoyed it, but felt the ending was a little too audience pleasing.
Great review man, I actually prefer this over Quiet Place
I really enjoyed Bird Box. But this type of movie doesn't have the rewatch factor for me. Same goes for The Quiet Place. Bird Box had a pretty good supporting cast.Even though its bullshit i did like the scene with the proximity sensors going crazy it was so simple but had maximum effect for me. Also the scene with the crazy guy that had the drawing and started to kill everyone and make them see the monsters that was Gold! The next netflix movie I'm gonna watch is Mowgli Legend of the Jungle.
The biggest plot whole is how they changed houses. I still don't get it, how tf did they do that???
That TShirt tho is on fire!!
Great review! Loved the movie!
Somewhere in this movies world I imagine Matt Murdock is out there beating the shit out of the crazies in New York 😅
Lol
I got sick and fucking tired of people talking about this, so I watched it. I’d give it a light 3.5, strong 4. It was enjoyable, but all the hype kinda killed it for me a little.
When I first seen this film I was thinking of The Village lol. I made a joke saying it's the prequel,
I love that tee. Awesomeness.
Bird box have a lot of things that confuse The people. And I think that is a psychological movie.
Given the basic premise, comparisons to A Quiet Place is inevitable. However persons saying it is a rip-off of A Quiet Place need to check facts, Bird Box is based on the book of the same name that came out in 2014. If there is any finger pointing it actually can be toward A Quiet Place borrowing from Bird Box and just tweaking the details.
That shirt is fucking great Mr. Leach
I think she didn't give them a name because the demon or whatever whispers their name into their ear and what not
Watched The Happening last night. Was expecting Ted to pop up out of no where! The acting was so bad!
Exactly why couldn't the monsters remove the blindfolds?
Apparently they can't touch
POWERLINE! 🤟
While I can appreciate this movie a bit, I didn’t feel it was a rip off of A Quiet Place. I just didn’t like it all that much. Great performances and great premise, but I felt there were things that were not explained. I just didn’t enjoy it that much despite some good suspense.
MadelineTopper I’m aware of that. I even said I know it’s not a rip off of A Quiet Place. I just didn’t like Bird Box all that much.
Wait.. If they can attempt to put stuff over the windows where's the person who has a car with a highly tinted car? They can't wear sunglasses or high tech tinted eyewear or nothing like Oculus or something? I mean it is 2018 even in a apocalyptic world you'd have intelligent tech people who'd know how to rig, fix or create a virtual headset that would allow you to both see and survive.
J Movies & Media most people died before they could even figure something out.
The “creatures” move through electronics
Kind of like the Crazies too
I personally think bird box is a better film than The Quiet Place. However The Quiet Place is a better Horror film. Bird Box has a better meaning and an actual goal. It tells the story of a women that can't connect. Its more than just a horror film. The Quiet Place is just a horror film. It does have sad gloomy moods - However Bird Box does it way better than The Quiet Place. The Quiet Place has a few good minutes of fear. Until the monster is shown. That's when fear of the unknown leaves. The Bird Box keeps that fear the whole time. However that doesn't mean its scarier.
The name of the movie clearly shows that this isn't just a horror movie. The Quiet Place is a name made to strengthen the fear factor. While Bird Box was a name made to symbolize something. Whether you perceive it as Freedom, Love, Self Improvement, etc it has a meaning. The Quiet Place has no meaning. It was simply made to scare. The Film doesn't have a meaning like Bird Box does. Even with The Quiet Place being an undoubtedly better horror film I personally think the monster in Bird Box is way more scarier than The Quiet Place could ever dream of being. Due to the way they use fear of the unknown. Therefor, Bird Box is undoubtedly the superior film.
Monster Explanation: Likely the entity will take out the greatest fear someone has. However it is different for some people. "They come as you Greatest Fear, Sadness, Or Loss". For most, it will be as scary as the sketches one of the characters reveal. However, Sadness and Loss is likely for special kind of people. Our main character almost saw her greatest loss - Tom. Before Tom, she would have seen her greatest sadness. Or she would have turned to one of the beauties. Lydia - the women who tried to save the main character saw her greatest loss - Her mother. Fear will cause suicide by force, Sadness will cause suicide by will, and loss will cause suicide by convincing or leading.
So it's like Blindness but mixed with the Time machine?
