Very useful info/video. Mine was completely rusted to hell. It took the guy a while to get them off, but after watching your video, I just bought the links and found a mechanic to put them on without paying $50 for them to check it. Runs like a CHAMP now!!!! 2000 Chrysler Concorde LXi Thanks bro!
I bought a used Pontiac G5 cheap, and it makes that noise, so I walked over to the lot nearby and told the owner this story. So he will have another look. You are brilliant. Thank you so much.
Hi Jyarf, Just like to say "THANK YOU" for taking the time to put this video on the Internet. I've been dogged for months with that rattle in my Holden Astra and was booked in to pay our local mechanic over $200 to repair what he diagnosed as a faulty tie rod causing the noise. After seeing your video I bought a new sway bar link for $40 and fitted it myself today in less than an hour. Problem solved! Thanks again for being such a great help.
My pleasure, I'm happy this helped. You are lucky that they weren't too hard to swap. Where I am they can be tricky at times because of road salt and rust.

I was ready to replace my front struts if it came down to it.

Thanks for posting this. Your video has helped me hear it from another car. I chucked my car on a rack the other day and gave it a good look over however did not grab and shake these parts to see how they are holding up. I am not used to having a car with them as fancy as they are (tie rod ends). The sway bar mounts can lead to knocking as well but not as frequent of knocking per my experience. P.S.: If i die, Sir, i will QUOTE YOU!!!! HA! (Volvo S80 2004)
Oh my Lord...I have been asking mechanics, and friends and some people who should be concerned about the welfare of their family members what this noise was for the LONGEST time....I guess it would help if I didn't take the backroads that are unpaved when I want to make a quick run to the market. Thanks for this very descriptive video and I just had my brakes changed out and the wonderful mechanic showed me what was wrong with the sway bar link. Snapped in two pieces on Both sides not just one...WHAT? How does this happen?
the sway bar places pressure across itself and the links when the body of the rolls during cornering, keeping the body more stable. when the links get old and brittle, they cant take the pressure as well. so when you turn hard with some old links, they might break
the swaybar is a connection between your springs on either side of the car, so hitting a large pot hole with one tire or having the car bouncing side to side can also cause them to break probably
Thank you so much for posting this. As I was researching thought my vehicle had a sway bar issue, listened to your video and yes it is! It is awesome that people do this, so I know what the heck is going on!

Titanium_BMW oh good lord! I hope everything turns out okay for you. I took it last week to my mechanic. My mechanic needed some parts that we are waiting on. But definitely not going to be driving it until it gets done.
How do I get to heaven? Will my good deeds be measured against my bad deeds? Do I need to be a good person to go to heaven? How do I know if I'm good enough? Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Sounds like my vehicle when I go slow. My mechanic thought it was the cv axle, which I didn't have him replace, since it doesn't click. Second opinion was sway bar and control arm with bar (trying to charge me $1400 for two control arms, 2 sway bar links, 4 hrs of labor, and alignment). I'm seeking out another opinion, due to the price.

Titanium_BMW oh good lord! I hope everything turns out okay for you. I took it last week to my mechanic. My mechanic needed some parts that we are waiting on. But definitely not going to be driving it until it gets done.
I have had this 'rattling noise' for a couple months and am pretty sure this is what is wrong. Next, a trip to my mechanic!! This was a helpful video.
Very much appreciated! Truck sounds just like yours and after more research, I can confirm that I have the same issue.
Oh shit thats the sound! And its crazy when i hit a pothole! Thanks
I just found out i need struts, strut mounts, and tie rod ends. I just bought a whole front and rear suspension kit for a 2010 maxima
"Don't quote me on that if you die.." 🤣🤣
lmao i know!
you have saved my time i have been trying to understand that sound yet no mechanic can tell me
Thank for the video, just confirms what I already knew but a thorough second opinion is always great.
Don't "quote" me if you die
How do I get to heaven? Will my good deeds be measured against my bad deeds? Do I need to be a good person to go to heaven? How do I know if I'm good enough?
Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Lmao, "dont quote me on that if you die", awesome lol
Spot on! Been hearing that sound for a while on my Chev Sonic. Having it fixed as we speak!
Hey buddy, i believe this is what is wrong with my Ford. Thanks for the informational video!!!
yes thank you so much. Mine is just like that.
"You're not gonna die or anything." -Jyarf Z
exactly what my car sounds like right now thank you hope this takes care of the problem
This confirmed my suspicions for my skyline, thanks for the video mate
Other similar clunking sounds are bad ball joint , inner tie rod, or outer tie rod..
I explained it as an old haunted house groaning/creaking in the wind 😂🤷🏻♀️ but totally the same sound as mine right now.
I described it as going up an old wooden roller coaster.. that clink clink clink
Thanks for helping me with this problem ! Install brand new sway bar links and the noise is GONE!!!!
very helpful that is the same thing my car is making and its driving me nuts!!! my mechanic said it was the struts/shocks...but I don't even know if they were sure about that....so im gonna go into the shop today to have them check out the sway bar.....thank you
Helpful Video thanks!!
I like the disclaimer - "You're not going to die or anything I wouldn't imagine... now... don't quote me on that if you die because of it... (silence)... I... will not be responsible for that.... Anyways"
Just bought a control arm kit for 70 dollars and if its not that the front and rear sway bar kit cost 56.
Hi Jyarf, you helped diagnose the problem in my car. Thanks a lot. However, if i die because of my car's broken sway bar before i take my car to a repair shop, I'm not gonna quote on you!
Thanks heaps man, i just installed new suspension in my 1993 bmw e36 coupe and was getting this exact noise and i thought i was smashing my suspension bumpstops but i was like "nah sounds way too metallic to be rubber bump stops" now i know what i need to replace!
