I was a grown man, driving down the street in Portland, Oregon on that rainy evening in November 1977 when this song came on the radio. The DJ introduced it by saying it had just been released the day before and the station had been flooded with calls from people begging to hear it again. I'd been aware of the Bee Gees since the late 60s and had loved one of their previous songs titled 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart', but I had never heard a pop song that touched me the way this one did. I will never forget how from the very first note it was enchantingly beautiful, the voices and harmonies were a heavenly choir and every word of the lyrics was as though it had been written in my heart. I made it about two blocks before I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the engine and headlights off, and sat there speechless with tears welling up in my eyes. Right then and there I decided it was most beautiful song I had ever heard, and 47 years later still haven't changed my mind. I am a musician by the way, and I've not only performed hundreds of times in front of audiences, I was a sound, staging and lighting expert who provided services for scores of stadium and arena rock concerts by superstar acts, and I have never seen or heard a group that is the equal of the Bee Gees as a singing band. The only ones that come close have been the Little River Band and the Eagles a distant third. Not to mention the fact that the Brothers Gibb are one of the greatest songwriting teams in the history of pop music. I had the great pleasure seeing them perform live twice in later years, and I can attest to the fact that every note of every song was sheer perfection, even better than the recorded version. There has been real genius in their music and singing, and countless millions all over the world have been touched, inspired and blessed by their creative artistry. 👏💖
My wife and I slow danced to how deep is your love ❤️ when we were 16 years old,we are now 60 with four kids and six grandchildren, the BeeGees were incredible, we still listen to all their music ❤❤
That song hits me hard it makes my heart skip a beat. It makes me treasure the day up to now that I met my wife. So deep it bring tears to your eyes very awesome song.
Barry, the lead singer is still alive. His two brothers have passed. RIP There will never be anyone like them. I love listening to them and reminiscing. ❤️
Guys, this song is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. You cannot go wrong with the Bee Gees. Listen to the very beginning and how their voices just penetrate your heart.❤
@@dennisstano2138 I listen every single day. I saw an interview with Alex Baldwin and Barry. His ? Was what song do u perform that touches your soul, gets u the most emotional. His answer was WISH U WERE HERE (written for Andy) and also HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE. another cool tidbit tidbit about this song is when the song was written, Barry and his brothers and a couple other people were in the room. When they were writing it, There was this big window and the first time they heard the song back a beam of light shined through the window and brightened the whole room up. I’m not sure if I have the story exactly correct but the guy that talked about it got choked up and started to tear up a bit. Barry and one of the producers of the song said they’ll never forget that moment as long as they live. I saw that on the documentary. How can you mend a broken heart. I’ve seen it like 10 times. 😍
Shawn and Mel...You 2 are such a Beautiful couple...and i love how you both just " feel" the message of the BeeGees...im 70 yrs old...I grew up with Amazing, Talented Music...🥰🥰
They lived near me when they were growing up (around when I was born!) and people who knew the family said their mum would constantly drill the boys in singing techniques... guess it paid off!
Can tell you guys really just heard this for the first time, by the looks on your faces...SO cool! Welcome to my world back then, 63-year-old grandpa here. No group takes me me back to then more...EVERY song they did was a masterpiece!!
I am happy to say that you are mistaken! Barry, the oldest brother (usually stands in the middle) is still alive. He is the last surviving Bee Gee brother & he must be protected at all costs! There have been news stories about Barry still keeping their music alive & interviews he's talked about the loss of his brothers & life long musical partners, since their early days performing as kids/young teens. Last year he released Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1, collaborating with other musicians & singers. Mo (Maurice) died in 2003 and Robin passed from cancer in 2012. Their youngest brother, Andy died way back in 1988 at the young age of just 30 yrs old. Andy was actually my favorite brother out of all of them. He looked & sounded so much like Barry. In fact those two could pass for twins more so than the actual twins, Maurice & Robin - LOL! My favorite songs from Andy are "I just want to be your everything" and "Shadow Dancing" Please give baby brother, Andy, a listen sometime soon - he will blow you away, like his big brothers do!
The Bee Gees have three of the top 100 songs of all time from billboard, three! And this is one of them! The most beautiful, harmonizing vocals on the planet
The Bee Gees have been an Amazing Artists, Songwriters and Brothers singing before I was born. They were the one of the most Talented bands I have been listening to since I was a teenager. I will mourn the last of the Gibb brothers Barry. They are and Always will be One of the Greatest Artists I will mourn!!!! Maurice, Robin and Andy left too soon. Barry is the oldest and last of this Amazing family of Artists.
Great time in music, the late 70's. Song is from the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. You two have been pausing on Donna Summer for a while now, time for some Last Dance, Mac Arthur Park, Heaven Knows or Bad Girls.
The Bee Gees only record bangers....l can't think of another British band of singer song writers that are also brothers with such talent. Barry Gibb is the name you thinking of and he is the only one still alive and working....🙂
They are the Gibb Brothers & are true legends ❤ Been performing together, since the 60’s. Their names are Barry (the tall one lol) Maurice & Robin. Barry is still alive but sadly Maurice, Robin & their baby Brother Andy Gibb have passed away.
Shawn and Mel!! I’m so glad you guys love this!! It’s simply magical, one of the best songs ever. It’s the perfect combination of so many genres, an R&B/soul power ballad with an unforgettable and inspired melody, a category the Bee Gees owned all to themselves. The vocals are delivered with such effortless confidence, not to mention the best falsettos in the business. A classic among classics.
Here are a few I love by the Bee Gees-- 'To Love Somebody' - 'More Than a Woman' - 'Massachusetts' - 'Jive Talkin'' - 'Nights on Broadway' - Immortality (with Celine Dion)
They are brothers, as you know. Barry, the tall one, is still living. He's the only one of the brothers still alive. His voice was so beautiful and special, that he was knighted by the Queen of England because of it. Wow! Enjoy the rabbit hole. Best song writers ever.
Try to imagine what the 70’s was like with guys like this making the highest quality music, then multiply that imagining by about 500,then you’ll get close.
I ❤ The Bee Gees so much. They were a major part of my teen years. I had (and still have) the biggest crush on Barry. Please react to their “Love So Right” and “Fanny, Be Tender (With My Love)”. They’re just the best.
This song was out when I was 14 and it was THE slow dance song at the skating rink, prom, wedding, etc. that year... I really love this reaction - especially at around 1:44 you see Barry's magic powers take Mel out for a second! Great channel! 👋👋👋
Andy Gibb was my favorite of the Brother's Gibb everyone forgot him but i never ever will. He was a solo artist no one can take anything from him he was very talented in his own right. Had a huge crush on Andy hell i still do. Poor Barry was not on good terms with Andy when he passed away he said that is a burden i must carry for the rest of my life and i agree with him. Awesome reaction.
Hi guys love your reactions credit must also be given to the music they have wrote for other artists as well as Their own performance's top draw the Brothers Gibb .
One of the best songs in pop music history by one of the best groups in music history ! The Gibb brothers were so talented! RIP Robin, Maurice and Andy Gibb 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💐💐💐🎤🎤🎤, Lord touch Barry Gibb, may he live a long life! One of the greatest singers and songwriters alive!
This song topped the US Billboard charts in 1977. Remember it well, so good. The Bee Gees were easily amongst the greatest songwriters of popular music.
Their heaven;y harmonies were like no others on this earth, and they made it all look so effortless. This video showcases them so well. Interesting how big tall Barry had the high falsetto and no one thought it detracted from his masculine allure. Glad to see the younger generation getting it about these incredible guys.
Recently I saw where Alice Cooper said that at the time they were not supposed to admit it but that Saturday Night Fever album was an absolutely brilliant record.
As you probably know, the Bee Gees are brothers, but there is another younger brother, Andy Gibb, who was a solo act, although you can usually hear the Bee Gee's singing back up for him. I just want to be your everything and Shadow Dancing are 2 of his bigger hits.
This was a French Baby... Barry and Blue Weaver (the keyboardist) first create the beautiful melody in the morning ,and later of course made this awesome baby with the Gibb brothers (Robin and Maurice)...wow so gifted to our fans ...❤🎉😊
Another banger they wrote that I absolutely love is "Emotion" recorded by Samantha Sang in 1978. It has been covered by many artists over the years, but the original recording by Samantha (with Bees Gees on backup vocals) is the one to hear first before all other versions.
I'll ever forget the first time I heard this song when it was first released in 1977. I'd always loved the Bee Gees and this was the most beautiful song I ever heard. Shawn and Mel, you have quickly become my favourite reviewers. You radiate such a positive energy.
It's ok to let the tears flow. I've been listening to this song for decades, often times hitting repeat more than once. I must have heard this song thousands upon thousands of times, but it still makes me swoon & get weepy eyed every time I hear it. Many of us love their older music, but they continued to compose & produce music until the untimely deaths of Maurice (2003) & Robin (2012). Two of their "newer" songs (post disco era) that I really love are "One" (1989) and "Alone" (1997). My favorite "old school" song is Jive Talkin'. I'm telling you, Maurice is a master on the bass guitar, laying down one of the heaviest FUNKY beats ever recorded. It makes you get up & dance, you can't help it. The beat just takes over & your body starts to move automatically - LOL!
Barry is sort of an avatar of the disco era--big hair, unbuttoned shirt, neck chain, tight pants, and all. Plus the high falsetto was very unexpected coming from such an alpha-looking male.
It does something to you, yes. I read how beautiful art and music can release dopamine in the brain, so yes, this group certainly can do that. Blue Island live on MTV is another beautiful one. Barry said recently that they are not msking besutiful songs these days. True

I love the Bee Gees aka The Brothers Gibb. I grew up listening to them and played them for my children. Their voices were so soft and mellow. RIP Andy Maurice and Robin. The lead singer Barry Gibbs is only one of the brothers still alive. Please react to their songs Shadow Dancin', How Can You Mend a Broken Heart and Emotion.
This is music! The Bee Gees are masters of harmonies. Pure talents without computers and autotunes. They can sing. Please check out older music. You will see the difference to music of today.
I love the Bee Gees. They had more then 1000 Songs, everybody knows the Song, ,Staying Alive, , bud most of the peapol diddnt Not know its writing and singing by the Bee Gees.
The Bee Gees were just The Hitmakers. Their songwriting is just impeccable. It’s beautiful the lyrics everything about it. I’m so glad that you’re finding them an appreciating them so long after they were so popular.
The Bee Gees always said this was the best song they ever wrote!! They wrote many songs for other artists! My favorite is Immortality which they wrote for Celine Dion!! R. I. P. Robin and Maurice!! Barry, you’re still awesome even though your twin brothers have passed we love you!! The lead singer is Barry and he is still with us!
Shawn and Mel, you are great, love the reactions from both of you, one can see you really enjoy this music which is , really classic and will never get tiresome.

This was the last song used in the movie Saturday Night Fever. It’s in the last scene. And it’s placement is perfection.
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was listening…

This is my generation of music, 70s and 80s, and the Bee Gees were a huge part of it!
This was Classic 1970s pop rock -- Bee Gees were the best!
From the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, my junior year in h.s. , winter of 77-78.

A Dance wouldn't be complete back in '77 without another song also put on repeat... The Commodores "Easy".
This was a French Baby... Barry and Blue Weaver (the keyboardist) first create the beautiful melody in the morning ,and later of course made this awesome baby with the Gibb brothers (Robin and Maurice)...wow so gifted to our fans ...❤🎉😊
Loved your genuine reactions. If you don't love this song you're dead. You guys are great. Thanks.
Music brings all mans colors together its universal !
without a song or dance what are we
Simple lyrics, yet profound. A lot of their song lyrics are like this.
it's not easy to get a new sound and meaning from simple pop lyrics. Bravo.
Another banger they wrote that I absolutely love is "Emotion" recorded by Samantha Sang in 1978. It has been covered by many artists over the years, but the original recording by Samantha (with Bees Gees on backup vocals) is the one to hear first before all other versions.
YES, great recording and seriously underrated song by many.
So smooth! Voices like theirs and Barry White's and Johnny Cash...oh man
