      @@gridsandgradientseven paint felt better than gimp after decades trying it out. It feels like Gimp is stuck in the past like the in 90s/early 2000s which was the first time I used it before finding about photoshop back when it was a 1 time purchase

      @@gridsandgradients Oh then I believe you should first focus on content type as that will be the foundation of your channel and then work on channel layout such as pfp and banner.

Tbh, I really wanted to get these first videos out because I gave myself a goal of posting each week. Great video for a beginner just looking to get a simple photo editor. GIMP seemed to complicated to do simple stuff, and Photoshop pricing is to high for what I would use it for. I will give the others a try.
    Question because I'm curious and not a professional, are Photoshop users starting to incorporate the AI features into their workflow? Not just the filters but the generative AI stuff?
    I don't need any of the AI stuff (I think, have not used it), but it seemed based on the final score it played a big role, since it seemed it was the big feature the rest did not have. So I'm curious if it is important nowadays because it is actually being used.

    • @gridsandgradients
      @gridsandgradients  2 дня назад +1

      Hi @SPX300, great question. Photoshop is starting to incorporate the AI features into the workflow pretty heavily.
      I'm just like you. At first I just thought of it as a gimmicky feature, but to be totally honest, it's an absolute game changer in a lot of ways. I don't think it's great at producing AI images, in comparison to Midjourney or FLUX. That's not its strong suit. The thing I use it for the most is filling in backgrounds, erasing subjects, and isolating objects. Because the tool a lot of editors will use is the rubber stamp tool or the healing brush. And those take a LOT of time to get everything just right. I just use the AI Generative Fill now.
      It's hard to explain how it works by typing it out, but I found this video and it might help to understand. I know this is in Adobe Firefly, but it's the same feature in Photoshop. Start the video at 1:05.
      www.adobe.com/learn/firefly/web/introduction-to-firefly
      Unfortunately I don't think Affinity has anything like this, and programs like Krita have plugins you can add, but they're still not as good as Photoshop's generative fill. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help!

    • @spx300
      @spx300 2 дня назад

      @@gridsandgradients I looked more into it, seems the generative fill gets a great boost with the AI on Photoshop, that part I like and see why it can be so good/worth it. Since I don't use it professionally to make money, my biggest issue is still the monthly price.
      Thank you for the help and the video, enjoy your day!

    Overly generous to GIMP, hah. 100% agreed on Photopea.
    Krita will be another option once the text editing tools are finished in 5.3.

      @gridsandgradients  18 дней назад

      @@gnatinator Ha!! Yeah I’m still baffled by how many people still fight for GIMP as an actual Photoshop replacement. To each his/her own I guess!
      I initially planned on including Krita but found it to be more of an Illustrator or even Procreate competitor. But it is a great program! Really appreciate the feedback, and 100% agree about Linux. There’s a huge disconnect with what operating systems true designers/developers are using

      @gridsandgradients  13 дней назад

      @ It’s definitely an improvement over the last release. But the interface is still way too “klunky” in my opinion, and it’s still slow in processing power. But the good thing is that they’ve dipped a toe into non-destructive editing. Not Smart Objects yet, but at least they’re moving in the direction of being a legit editing tool. Still would recommend Affinity or even Photopea for certain projects over GIMP
