To be fair the screws and prisoners at that time didn’t know they were 100% innocent. All they saw were 6 convicted killers responsible for the bombing of innocent people during a time of unimaginable violence from both sides. If British convicted criminals were sent to an Irish jail they also would have received the same treatment. What did they expect a cup of tea and a slice of cake from the screws and a friendly reception from the prisoners ?
Innocent or guilty? These men were remanded to prison as unconvicted prisoners awaiting trial, and a fair percentage of remand prisoners are found not guilty, so the prison officers know very well the difference between being accused and being guilty.
@andrewstones2921 So what! it was a different time back then. Don't tell me if a british suspect back then went to an Irish prison they wouldn't get the same treatment. An English man would get a smashing in the joy even now by prisoners just for not being Irish so what the hell is your point?
