  • On 14 March 1991, ITN's cameras captured the release of the Birmingham Six, the group of Irishmen wrongfully arrested and convicted for the Birmingham pub bombings of November 1974. Patrick Joseph Hill, Richard McIlkenny, Hugh Callaghan, John Walker, Gerard Hunter and William Power were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975, and spent 16 years behind bars before their convitions were overturned. Their release came nearly two years after the release of the Guildford Four, who were imprisoned under similar circumstances following the Guildford pub bomings of October 1974. Paul Hill, one of the Guildford Four, campaigned for the Six's release, and features prominently in ITN's footage of the day.

    Why were those criminal police officers who framed these men never brought to justice? It stinks!

  • @OscarMcHattan

    This was an appalling miscarriage of justice. They were only convicted because they were Irish. Same with the Guildford Four and Maguire Seven.
    Edit: RIP Paddy Hill, Hugh Callaghan, and Richard McIlkenny.

    In retrospect…..What happened was wrong on so many levels, it’s inexcusable and the only positive light is that eventually reluctantly they were exonerated and the British prime minister apologized for the injustice.

      Not exactly what your looking for, but if your referring to the Militant government of Liverpool in the 80s, there is this really good documentary about the period in the 90s after Militant were kicked from the Labour party. Its in english though, I don't know if you can get Russian subtitles for it.

    They might not have been guilty of the bombing. But let's be honest they were at least associated with members of the IRA and probably had links or associates involved with dozens of other murders. I'm not shedding any tears for their time spent in jail

      No proof of any of this..if you invade another persons country and treat the native population like shite for 700 years a high probability that blood will be shed..it is unfortunate when innocent people die, but also not right to convict innocent people.. Dresden was bombed to pieces and lots of innocent people died..my Uncle was in one of the bombers..neither are ideal …

      You need to wake up. There was never the slightest evidence that they were members of the IRA - because they were never members of the IRA. THE BIRMINGHAM SIX ARE INNOCENT - No ifs, no buts.

    • @OscarMcHattan
      @OscarMcHattan 25 дней назад +1

      @@AM-ty3zp James McDade was not known by many people to have been an IRA member until after he died, and in Irish culture, one has an obligation to attend funerals of people they knew regardless of how they died. Also, going to one IRA member's funeral doesn't mean you "probably had links or associates involved with dozens of other murders." Maybe YOU SHOULD DO SOME RESEARCH.

      @abdullaa7281 The Birmingham Six were convicted in 1975. They were released in 1991. So, again, what did Israel have to do with this? Did Israel convict them? Was the Birmingham bombing a Mossad plot? Or are your comments merely about hatred of Jews?
