The whole point of this massacre of unarmed civilians was to strenthen unionism and deter the Irish from resisting British occupation and oppression. It had the opposite effect. More than 100 British soldiers were killed in the 12 months following the massacre and the troubles were to last more than 30 years.

The lengths people will go to justify the oppression, torture, murder and daily harassment of their brothers and sisters purely because of the "protestant supremacy" nonsense that was drummed into their ancestor's heads heads when they were working the lands on the plantations as illiterate serfs for the bit laird is amazing. The mental gymnastics are astonishing. Mr Clarke, on the eighth day of his opening statement, disclosed a confidential document on the debriefing on an IRA informer, code-named Infliction. It was dated April 6, 1984. The crucial passage read: "Martin McGuinness had admitted to Infliction that he personally fired the shot from a Thompson sub-machine gun from Rossville Flats that precipitated the Bloody Sunday episode."
Fun-fact they were initially WELCOMED by the N.Irish Catholic population. The IRA didn't like it (for obvious reasons), but British soldiers - at the very beginning of their deployment in N.I. were CHEERED by Catholics. They thought the Army would protect them from Protestant paramilitaries, and - who knows! - the ordinary Soldiers might even believed they were on a mission there to keep the peace and (on many occasions) TRIED to do their job! Many of them as far as I recall even came from Ireland/N.ireland and might even still had relatives there! It took only a few years and the situation turned by 180°. One year into the deployment and the "top-brass" of the units deployed in N.I. were already dining, partying, dancing and playing golf with the top-leaders of the Protestant community. They weren't "neutral" AT ALL. By 1970/71 the "rumors" about alleged (mixed) hit-squads from the British Army Intel & Spec-Ops together with the UVF/UFF paramilitaries (i.e: TERRORISTS) carrying out - ALLTOGETHER! - killings of suspected IRA-members - or UVF killings carried out with intel provided by the Brit-Intelligence weren't "rumors" anymore - they were an "open secret". ...AND THEN - January '72 comes along! ...and believe or not! - but the IRA COULDN'T BE MORE HAPPY! From one of their LOWEST points in History they were able to jump back on the scene - recruit SCORES of people, reorganize, resupply and go on the "attack" (if by "attack" you mean terrorist bombing campaigns). Thanks to few trigger-happy fools the "romance" between the locals and the Army was OVER & DONE - FOREVER! PS. ...and WTF was even the Army DOING THERE ANYWAY??... like they couldn't stay afar and watch from distance??
13th August 1969, at the very start of the 'troubles' Taoiseach Jack Lynch (Irish Prime minister) called for UN peacekeepers to be sent in. British Government refused, they sent the British army instead.

I find this very interesting because when I was in Iraq after the regime fell, we (Americans) were trained by the British in these riot crowd control tactics and techniques, even how to aggressively swarm snipers. All of which the British learned and used in Ireland and were now showing us.
I was there on that terrible day. The British soldiers were not fired on. The working class people of Derry were simply marching for Civil Rights and equality. They were met with the full force of British imperialism's military might. This video shows the real and terrifying face of armed occupation. But the people were not deterred or frightened and resisted the tanks and guns. Forcing the now King of England, and former Colonel in Chief of the terrorist Parachute Regiment, to come to terms with and to shake hands with the leaders of the risen people of Derry and occupied six counties of Ireland. Thank you for posting this historic footage so the world can see the truth.
One of the first Catholics to be murdered by the IRA was a mother of 10. When the British Army was first deployed to Northern Ireland, most Catholics welcomed them. This poor woman made the mistake of offering soldiers guarding her block of flats a cup of tea. The IRA were determined to terrorise the Catholic population into supporting them. Her killer - an IRA female gangster who combined her political views with for personal profit armed robbery and drug dealing - has been identified in a well researched book by a respected American reporter. She is one of the mass murderers given immunity in the Good Friday deal; she won’t be brought to justice. Third, I realized that every Westerner is a hypocrite by "nature", read their culture and way of life. When it is Westerners invading it is for a greater good, when it is any country outside the West it is terrorism, totalitarianism, it is not for nothing that Western Europe is sinking today and the USA is promoting it Its decay more quickly
All quickly whisked away by their runners. Yes, and that foolishly short-sighted thinking to teach a lesson on unarmed civilians gave the IRA a massive long-term victory. Bloody Sunday was a massive long-term tactical blunder by the British Army. It massively increased Catholic and Nationalist hostility, gave the IRA a massive surge in recruitment, strengthened and emboldened the IRA, resulting in a significant increase in the number, profile and severity of IRA attacks, and significantly worsened and lengthened the overall conflict.
@@andywilliams7323 And gave everyone with even a drop of Irish blood across the world (many millions) proof that britain and the british people were despicable and their military were murderers.
You had one vote for each person in a general election. Council elections you had to own property, which is the way it used to be everywhere. All the blow-ins who came to Londonderry for work didn't own houses so had no vote in council elections and were upset because they hated having the unionists in control.
I really don't know what the British were trying to achieve. Catholic people weren't going anywhere whether you liked it or not and Catholics stood up for one man one vote. It was a complete and utter waste of life and money by the British. When the British army left, peace came. Now we see the fruits of cooperation from all sides.
Major Ted Loden, commander of Support Company, members of which had fired all the shots which killed 14 and wounded 14 others, told Saville that shortly after the killing ended, he had taken down in his own hand statements from each of the shooters, plotted map references showing the locations of the shooters and of their targets and had recorded the soldiers’ accounts of why they had fired. He provided a vivid account of interviewing the soldiers one by one, as he sat in the back of an armoured vehicle a few hundred yards from Rossville Street as darkness descended with a map spread out on his lap, writing by the light of a battery-powered lamp. Loden was handed a type-written document detailing the shots. He agreed that this seemed to be a type-written version of his hand-written account. The Inquiry then produced the handwritten original. Loden looked at the document and said that while the wording was his, the handwriting wasn’t. Whose was it, then, he was asked? It might be General Jackson’s, Loden suggested. But why would Jackson have painstakingly transcribed his notes more or less immediately after he had written them down? Loden pondered the question for perhaps 20 seconds, then replied: “Well, I cannot answer that question.” Jackson, recalled to the witness-box, confirmed that the handwriting was his. Cross-examination revealed that none of the shots described in Jackson’s list conformed to any of the shots which had actually been fired. Some of the trajectories recorded showed bullets passing through brick buildings before finding their targets. None of the locations where uncontested evidence showed the victims had fallen was recorded as such in the map references. It wasn’t that the list contained inaccuracies: from start to finish, it was wrong in every detail. Jackson had no explanation to offer for any of this. He claimed that he had entirely forgotten having produced the documents when first giving evidence but had now recovered a “vague memory.” On more than 20 occasions, he used phrases along the lines, “I cannot remember,” “I do not recall,” “I am afraid I cannot help you there.”
What we expect that after 800 plus years you take your foreign army back to Blighty and never tread on Irish soil again. You were horrified when you were threatened by the Spanish Armada, Napoleon and hs Grande Army and Nazis Germany. But you have no problem invading another country and enslaving its people, stealing its resources and labelling those who fight back as " Terrorists" The hypocrisy and double standards are stark and staggering! Was Robin Hood a freedom fighter or a "Terrorist" in English eyes? What will happen in the six counties, if in time the majority Nationalists vote for re unification with the South? What will happen when funds get tight in England and London stops bankrolling NI with its overloaded civil service? They will drop NI like a hot potato! The rest of us who call this beautiful country, (all 32 counties), will be left pick up the pieces no doubt! Will the Unionists in their Apartheid failed corner of this Island now accept the wish of the majority? A majority they should never have gotten as it was gerrymandered shamefully so that the Unionists would always maintain a permanent majority, or so they thought! (If they attempted to grab the entire, original province of Ulster, they would have been outnumbered decades ago. The next decade or so will be very interesting!

It's a time when media in the West still questioned authority

Loden pondered the question for perhaps 20 seconds, then replied: “Well, I cannot answer that question.”
Jackson, recalled to the witness-box, confirmed that the handwriting was his.

Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

They told the truth on day one. They were shot at and fired back, same as Ballymurphy 6 months before. IRA use rioters as cover.
@@JCC-c9l The truth is the Paras were shot at and they fired back. Father Daly testified he saw a man fire a pistol at the soldiers. This man gave evidence in 2003 anonymously. He was in the Official IRA.
