    Opened my wife's hood today to hook up the battery charger as hers seemed dead. And it took me 2 mins to find the damned thing! This is the most asinine spot I have ever seen a battery placed in a car. I couldn't even get the booster cables onto it. Luckily the charger has smaller clamps. I may have to replace it but won't know until I get home from work. Thank you for the video. I was hoping I didn't have to take out the air box, but at least I know how now!

    • @AN-xq1lt

    I have a 2016, the FoMoCo Battery died with no warning after 45 months and I read that the BMS "Battery Maintenance System" needs to be reset after replacement. One way to do this is with an OBDII device connected to a USB Laptop port running FORScan. This reset tells the car that a new battery has been installed, this changes the charging parameters that are designed to prolong the life of the battery. I use Interstate batteries in my F-150 and replace it every 5 yrs and they are still hot. I trust Interstate and I am installing an Interstate MTP-96R. Thanks for the Video.

      I ended up taking off everything on top like a previous viewer mentioned. 20 items total, the 2 larger panels above the battery, this included 8 clips and 4 screws, (metric) both of the wiper arms had to come off , actually it was fairly easy. And the stupid covers (2) over the battery box. The negative connector to the battery had so much corrosion you could hardly see it, I mention this only because the car is only a few years old 2013. Anyway, thanks for the great video. I hope my comments help someone else. Jeff

    I'd replace it by removing the cowl and lifting it out, but I think the factory manual has it like the video. One thing might want to do is disconnect the negative side strap, located to the right of the battery under the cowl, then securely wrap the end in a shop rag or plastic baggie, this will prevent any potential for electrical shorts.

Took almost and hour and probably would've been easier to just remove the entire cowling and wipers. Horrible design by Ford and I encourage anybody that is faced with the job of replacing the battery on their 2013-2016 Escapes to just trade it in towards a Chevy or have your neighbor kick you in the nuts.

      I’m considering utilizing a Qwik-Fill system that fits on most Group 24-31, 12 volt marine deep cycle, dual purpose, and starting batteries. Specifically those batteries that conform to the standard 3 cell space. Each hole should .75 inches in diameter and spaced 1 5/8 inches apart (measured center to center). Not sure if small Motorcraft batteries meet these dimensions. Gonna measure the one that came out of my Son’s Focus. Same problem on the new ones. Batteries dry up here in desert. They should have installed maintenance free type battery if access with access so limited - total maintenance nightmare / money grab.

    Removing the cowl is WAY faster and less dinking around! Search RUclips and learn a thing or two! This method is the LONG WAY around! Been there done this! It's actually quite simple! Just pay attention! Or take it in somewhere that will do this method!

      Thank you for the video. It helped me figure out how to finish the job. The cowl removal method is different, but I wouldn't necessarily call it better. After watching a video on the cowl method, it's also an inconvenient way to access the battery. Ford sure made it harder than it needed to be.

  • @p38fln
    @p38fln 7 лет назад

    Ford does at least do right by putting a maintenance type battery in there, but you can't even get the water caps off without taking the cowling off. I just dumped some water in the positive side, hopefully the negative side wasn't as low... I added about 16 ounces of purified water to the battery's positive cells using a straw. No way on earth to get the other side off without disconnecting cables, and no way to disconnect the cables without taking the cowling or half the intake apart.

      +Jat519 That is almost as funny as my Sebring Convertible which had the battery access inside the drivers side front wheel well. You have to remove the plastic inner fender wall to even see it. And it was easier to remove the wheel before starting.

    Thank you for this video!!! Thank you for showing the ONE AND ONLY CORRECT WAY to change a Ford Escape battery. FFS! As soon as I saw other videos removing the wipers I though, WTF? how can that be? Because it isn't. What it is, is ignorant morons who think they know better than the Ford engineers. It is incredible how much mis-information there is about changing the Ford Escape battery on RUclips. Most other videos show these ignorant morons removing the windshield wipers and cowling to change the battery. It is NOT easier to remove the wipers, the cowling, as they damage the clips that hold the cowling in place. Moronic.
